Arsenal vs Leicester City

th (2)

The football are coming thick and fast with Arsenal going again, this time hosting Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium in a Premier League clash.

The Gunners come into this match on the back of an impressive 2-0 victory at Wolves to continue their recent good run, whereas the Foxes made light work of Crystal Palace to finally get their first win in five games since the restart.

Good day one and all.

With the season now in the home stretch Arsenal have had a timely upturn in form, winning three straight league games without conceding a goal. Mikel Arteta is clearly happy with the defensive improvement, yet cautious:

“The more we improve here, the more solid we are, the more chances we are going to have to win football games.”

Also at the Emirates our form have always been exemplary. In our last six outings at home we kept four clean sheets to go with our still unbeaten league run since the turn of the year – taking 16 points from a possible 18.

Conversely, Leicester are without a win on their travels since New Year’s Day. It’s been a five-match winless run which saw them taking only two points from a possible 15.

The 3-0 win over the Eagles was a vital one for the Foxes as it gives them bit of a bounce as they now start a very tricky run-in; following tonight their final four league fixtures are against Bournemouth, Sheffield United, Spurs and Manutd. Brendan Rogers will be well aware that there is little room for error if they are to maintain their current top-four standing.

The Gunners also have a sticky run-in… but if they are able to extend their winning run here tonight it can only boost their own continental cause even further.

Team News

Mikel Arteta could make very few changes from the team that took the field at Wolves, as he would like to build on that performance.

Two players that could come in are Alexandre Lacazette, he will be hopeful of handed a start after he came off the bench to score, having again missed out to Eddie Nketiah. Nicolas Pépé will be another, who missed out last time due to his wife giving birth, but whether that comes at the expense of Bukayo Saka is a decision the coach has to make.

Mesut Özil could make the matchday squad, subject to a late fitness test due to recurring back problems.

Prediction

Both teams are looking to finish the season strong because they still have much to play for. But also the Gunners are good at home, whilst the Foxes have been out of sorts on the road.

Meaning Arsenal should go into this encounter in good shape to give Leicester’s top-four hopes a mighty dent. COYG!

  4. I hear that tonight’s game will form part of the Olympic trials for the diving squad.

Leicester need to catch up with Manure in respect of the number of penalties they get.

George Bernard Shaw said that “sarcasm is the lowest form of wit”.

I have 2 comments. Firstly that even he admits that it is a form of wit and the second is, that is only his opinion

  5. It will be Paul Tierney obliging Jamie Vardy this eve. UA have written a few articles on how well Leicester tend to do with the PGMOL, sounds quite suspicious, but we shall see.
Hoping we can continue the very recent performances

  17. Three Leicester players going through the back of the Gunners not even a foul. After 15 mins.
Ceballos with a pass Arteta would’ve enjoyed, Saka with the shimmy to leave poor Evans staring at the pitch and Auba with a calm finish

Looks like the pgmob sounded their bugle. So predictable.

who has not enjoyed the Wengerball with the players available on display in answer to the tilting?

Could’ve been more then two up.

Aubameyang with the goal and its no more than we deserve, it really could and should be more than one, maybe a 4-0 or 4-1 score would have been a more accurate scoreline

  20. Was surprised he called the foul for the lcfc although it was a fairly obvious push. I don’t have high expectations from this official this evening but maybe he just needed to warm up after his wet start.

Lcfc have the quality to score goals.

    Interesting half of footy ahead.

Bellerin playing like a player who has been looked after by his new coach through his recovery, unlike the previous joker with numerous players. Magnificent performance from the RB IMO.

With Mustafi getting Clarke’s MoTM against Wolves everyone can see how many of the players are on side with the new gaffer.

Don’t really care about the result I’m just enjoying watching a football team play for the Arsenal again.

Still, with these refs in this league, we have to kill off these games when we can

  37. From Nitram on UA
    With this ref:

    Arsenal

    31 fouls

    3 Yellow

    1 Red

    A card every 6.2 fouls

    Liecster

    39 Fouls

ZERO cards. Is that even possible ?

    Like

  38. well mandy they had 14 fouls tonight without a booking so its very possible

  39. So they look at monitors now…and it’s us who have the privilege of being one of the first, probably the first among top 4-6, certainly to have it go against them.

Anyone know who the VAR was for game? Doubt it was Deano again but half expecting it was ole Atkinson on the mike.

  40. Can’t remember us getting a decision all-night once the officials fucked us. All night Leicester were allowed to take us out without punishment sometimes even off the ball but of course VAR didn’t get involved.
Once again for the second decision the officials don’t know the rules or didn’t want to apply them, if a forward makes a move towards the ball then he’s offside and the lino had already given offside for Auba earlier in the game. I also thought at the point when gray hits the ball vardys head was offside but I can’t be certain because amazingly that was one of the only angles they didn’t show.

  44. Kelechi Iheanacho committed five fouls in his 59 minutes on the pitch but got no card, since the restart we’ve seen this happen in several of our games, an opposing player with freehand to kick the shit out of our players with no yellow given.

  45. Evans committed a few fouls as well.
Brainstorm earlier, thought the ref was Tierney, it was Kavanagh
We are the only club to receive a red from him this season, and sit joint top of the yellows from him
    https://www.whoscored.com/Referees/780/Show/Chris-Kavanagh

Then, VAR, two very contentious decisions against us.
Our recent performances must have scared Riley.

  46. According to the daily heil, Stuart atwell was on VAR, explains rather a lot. And of his desire to enforce different technologies on kavanagh until he changed it to red, rumour has it that had the monitor not worked on him, he would have been wired to GCHQ for satellite imagery with Uri Geller as a final option.
When did they start using monitors anyway, thought Riley didn’t like that? A shame they didn’t use them for all the dodgy decisions that have gone against us this season.

  47. Being positive,we have played well in our last 2 games.Would have settled for 4 points out of 6 before.
Being realistic we could be in 10th place by kick off on Sunday,we are definitely going to have a lowest points tally for many years.
I’m hopeful for the future though.
