Arsenal late strike spikes Dyche (again)

46B6218500000578-5118633-image-a-155_1511711999597.jpg

Good afternoon Positive Arsenal fans,

I sprint down the tunnel from  the Turf Moor pitch to bring you this very early post, breathless from the contest, my muscles aching from the effort over the past 92 minutes, my face bright red, the sweat steaming in the early evening gloom. It is not a pretty sight I admit. And it was not a pretty sight, of that I suspect we agree.

Of the game itself ?I am told by the BBC we had just 64% possession. I must have been watching a different game. It was at least 75%. The visiting team that played all the football and tried to win the game ‘won’. The home team that parked their bus had its tyres slashed and the vehicle ruthlessly vandalised, having taken their eye off it just for that fatal spilt second ‘lost’. Tarkowski must have lost his mind. Our Chilean as cool as an Andean glacier at dawn. Bravo.

For our mighty club  I thought we had a good outing. It could have been ‘tricky’ but it was not. Sead was superb this afternoon, the man goes from strength to strength. After some rough treatment in the first half, Alex Iwobi was our most creative player, and Mustafi our best defender. There was great ‘purpose’ about our football today. Rock solid at the back, very few loose passes, good movement by players to open space amid the massed ranks of claret and blue. No real creative deficit with Mesut rested. I would like to see a little more accurate shooting, but I am nit picking.

Having overlooked a first penalty for the Brady foul on Hector Mr Mason redeemed himself late in the game. Have a look yourself, as cast iron as they come in my book,

Cast iron, as I say , and thoroughly deserved.

Of the home side they are difficult to beat and no wonder they have let in one goal in four PL games. If Burnley’s  attacking players had concentrated more on staying upright rather than trying to win free kicks and penalties then that may have secured the point. Is it me or is Robbie Brady the most irritating footballer in the PL ?  However if Dyche and his merry men carry on like this it may be the Europa League will  return  Continental teams to Turf Moor for the first time in 50 years.

I imagine we shall see more of the same on Wednesday agin Huddersfield. I think Jack will start. Let us hope we do not have to wait quite so late, nor rely on so foolish a foul to win the game.

And thank you to our friends at the Daily Mail for the top picture.

  1. Andy thanks for the review…. didn’t watch so much needed

As Passenal said earlier…. I – Nil to the Arsenal…

    Great I say
We will take that till end of season! not so late in the game though
then again, that means no equalizer!

  2. but the BBC says that Burnely would have been the disappointed team if it had ended a draw, as they were by far the better team. Now of course BBC think that way after running with the narrative from before kick off that “Burnley are on the verge of going top 4 above Arsenal, (yeah, only Arsenal)”, much like how they ran with the power shit narrative for the spurs game, and as we know, in modern football coverage, narrative is everything.
Another little insight into the BBC football crew, “only Man City play good football in England”, was one of their utterances today

  3. Our second half performance one hell of an upgrade from the first. A deserved win but coming from a penalty awarded by Mason, in the last seconds…look for the star rising in the East.

    Huddersfield 1-0 Man City
The first half stats are in and make interesting reading.

Huddersfield have not had a shot on target – yet lead!

Six corners for City, eight shots, one on target, one disallowed goal and 77% possession

  8. good review anicoll. we were not very purposeful in the first half. but in the second we came our forcefully looking for the goal and in the end we were rewarded. the referee must by now be cursing himself for adding just two minutes despite all the delay tactics employed by burnley.
    back in the top four.

  11. Wenger says Ozil likely out of the midweek game.

Also that Ramsey says he got pushed very hard, so much so that he has a hurt neck from the whiplash type effect, as he was trying to back flick a header on when he got the shove.

  12. Striking while the iron is hot to not allow Dyche having a sleep over it. As good as the result.

We won and that’s all the matters considering results elsewhere. So happy day!

  13. what the fuck has Arsenal getting late winners in the two game v Burnley last season, got to do with it “not being fair on Burnley to lose today to a late penalty”, why is it only v Arsenal that past decisions or situations are raked up to imply some sort of luck to us, the penalty today was not soft, it was a cert, as was the one we got at the Emirates in January against them, so why the fuck are the media whinging, feck that, why are so many so called Arsenal fans spouting this same sort of shit too.

  14. i really pity burnley and their fans today. they had expected the referee to be consistent till the end but he let them down by making the right call for once.

what the fuck did he think he was doing abandoning his midfield role to go glory hunting in their box, does he think he is some sort of box to box midfielder or what

  19. media narrative – Controversial Arsenal Win – what exactly was controversial about it, as clear a penalty as you will see, just cos Burnley unhappy about it does not make it controversial, just cos refs usually don’t give penalties to AFC, does not make one given controversial

    Liked by 2 people

  20. Totally agree if their strikers had set the tone for a tough battle rather than falling to the floor then in the context of the game mason may have not given the pen.
Mason was totally inconsistent anyway, although he wasn’t biased he was equally shit for both sides and wouldn’t know what advantage was if it jumped up and bit him in the arse.
I thought Sead was great going forward however he seems very imobile defending if he can’t get his body in the way.
Second half we did play well but the last ten minutes we seem to be running out of ideas and I was just thinking if we had done better away this season everyone would be saying what a great point this was when low and behold the big brave bald hero stepped into the frame.

  21. As Ron Weasley would say: absolutely bloody brilliant.
Looking forward to reading the in-play comments and then the highlights and then the breakdown.
But for now I’m on cloud 9.

  22. Controversial the media are saying, but the Burnely manager actually said the following about the penalty award in between his bleating about being hard done by.

“I thought it was highly unlikely the penalty wasn’t going to get given,

    “it probably is a penalty”.

“I need to make it clear, you lay your hands on someone, he goes down – not in a cheating way, because he was nudged”

“To be honest it was highly unlikely it was not going to get given on a day like today.”

so the Burnley manager admits his defender pushed Ramsey, and he expected the penalty to be given, so what the fuck makes it controversial, is it merely cos it was given to Arsenal

  24. Played well in the second half, a patient performance against a dogged side with a clear game plan, and got our just rewards.
Could easily have had another pen, and thought the ref was a little lenient on a couple of their players if anything.
A good weekend to get three points considering points dropped by others

  27. Easy to understand how Sean Dyche feels. You have to be incredibly unlucky to be playing against Arsenal and have a penalty given against you. The chances of its happening twice in two seasons are slightly lower than the chances of a lottery win.

Is not that unlucky when you send your team out every time to simply out-foul the Arsenal, they can’t complain when even an amenable ref says enough is enough.

    Liked by 3 people

  31. MOTD did not have enough time to show the clear foul on Bellerin in the area, maybe they should consider showing more of the action and less of their big pre game biggin up of Sean Dyche, they attempted to make him seem like a hybrid of Clough, Wenger, Sir Alex, Shankley, Paisley, or maybe it was Oscar Wilde, tedious bullshit, but then again their Narrative has to be supported

Thought we really missed Mesut’s inventiveness throughout the game.
Burnley were really up for it though I must say, Barnes was a disgrace with his perpetual flopping.

  37. MOTD pundit had it exactly right.

The issue is not whether or not it was a penalty. Nobody disputes that it was.

The controversy is over whether the rules should now be rewritten to make it clearer to referees that no penalty should ever be given in Arsenal’s favour.

Caught up with MOTD2. Has to be the biggest misrepresentation of any game I’ve ever seen.

No mention of Bellerin pen, only 3 AFC shots of 17 shown. 7 of Burnleys 8 shots shown.

Starting to enjoy the saltiness if I’m honest.

“Has to be the biggest misrepresentation of any game I’ve ever seen”

It’s about par for the coverage of the Football now. Narrative sequence over the sport. Add in the Arsenal to the equation, especially following victory, and you won’t need to wait long till the spawn of Partdrige start to smack their own foreheads with blue dildos. Always a beautiful spectacle.

Scudamore and Risdale’s “brand” has taken one hell of a beating courtesy of the Arsenal over the years.
A beating that can be evaluated by acknowledging the hundreds of millions of pounds the club has cost these frauds (please refer to Everton etc. if confused).

There may be some doubt as to why it is these crooks hate the Arsenal, but not much TBF.

  41. Didn’t see Motd.

Watched the highlights on Sky and their edit showed them putting a lot of pressure on us first half, with only the one attack for us, I think (Lacazette good work to Ramsey)

2nd half I’m not sure they showed an attack for them. Few openings for us either, though it looked as though we had weathered what they had in attack, were equal in the fight, and were patiently probing away.

I did think, watching it, that stats had shown we had a decent amount of shots, and the edit showed very few. Guessed they weren’t great efforts.

In fairness, they showed the Bellerin pen shout, and Scottish comm believed they got away with it. Same commentator didn’t dispute pen and even made some reference, with a chuckle, to Burnley fans and their enthusiastic (can’t remember wording)… efforts to help ref

As for Motd, the edit of our spurs game didn’t accord at all with what I’d seen. It showed them as having virtually all the attacks until our opener, which wasn’t the case at all.

Motd are shits. There can be no doubt about that.

  42. Can’t understand how people still find the time to watch the bbc/bt/sky “football” coverage.

I admit I used one of those handy YouTube channels to skip through the various plunditry in five mins after the Derby victory, as you do, and in all honesty my time would have been better used bleaching the toilet whilst waiting for the Breakdown.

Rio Ferdinand has spent so much inhaling his own opinions and snorting up the sycophantic sneers of the BT squad of hack dwarves that he failed to pay attention to the Gunners good (compared with their peers) record against Burnley.

    Get them in the bin.

  43. The five minute post match chit chat involving Clarkie and Winterburn (I think that it was NW on yesterday) hasn’t been matched by any of these broadcasters that literally spend billions upon their rights.

Clearly they feel some kind of (financial) pressure to tell their story (“the greatest story ever told”© “this club is a shambles”™) , but if you want to follow the football, well, then the Breakdown will be out tomorrow!

Some of the items highlighted by Clarkie and Winterburn and not covered elsewhere:
    – Welbeck getting on ahead of Giroud?
What does it mean if AFC have two strikers who can get onto the pitch ahead of France’s no.1 striker, one of them a French striker who just snagged two goals against Germany? What does it tell is about Welbeck? Does it mean that this shambles of a club has flukily pilitb together a decent squad? By accident?

This desire to rehab this player reflects that Welbeck has a better record at the top level for club (in CL) and country then the blessed knight of the realm, future Real Madrid Galactico (nope!) Sir Harry Kane. That if Welbeck can make a top level return to club and country squads that he could still be a serious player albeit one who needs minding and won’t be playing three times a week…which is not so terrible a circumstance when you want to give game time to younger players too, like Eddie! Unlike a petro club.

You’d think and hope that people would want to listen to footy chat that is about the actual Football!

Thanks again to those Arsenal fans who said out loud and proud:

    “Enough is Enough,
We don’t want to listen to ****s like Robson, stick it up your Arsenal”

I remain in debt to these fine upstanding gentlemen and women. Limestonegunner and others you know who you are!

  44. If you’re being reasonable then the some words to efficiently describe the media coverage of Arsenal football club this past week following the storm in the teacup and the obvious foul from the rookie CB who was knackered after chasing AFC forwards for 80 odd minutes which he’d telegraphed in advance when blowing hard and making a panicked clearance when under little pressure only minutes before.

    How about:
    “Shambolic™” (personal favourite)
    “Biased” (technically accurate)
    “Demented” (psychologically accurate)

    Nevermind the football eh?
