Kroenke Transfer Spends To rescue Arsenal

Hello one and all,

In this podcast we take a quick look at our two new signings, which quickly descends into a discussion about how Arsenal are able to spend big money that they don’t have. The answer is we are spending Kroenke’s money.

Pedantic George.

  1. George is right, again. The Kroenkes are spending plenty money. But none of these players are proven quality so far this year. Neither last year to be fair. Will Gabriel Jesus it make a difference? I am unconvinced he will. As Byso stressed last week, of the 8 PL goals he scored last year, 4 were in one match).

  2. The quantity of these pods are getting better and better. From initially talking about these signings and those of the last few seasons to then talking about the cash injection Kronke is putting in and then talking about the cliff edge of the debt growing faster than the value of the club all fantastic and interests subjects.
Personally long term I think the strategy of young players getting better at the same time until we finally are a force will only work if we secure fourth place and I still can’t see us doing that. This is very likely to be Saka’s last season at the club and other your who do well will be picked off if we continually miss out on CL football. If we get loads of money for them and grow the team that way then we may succeed but that hasn’t been a strength of the club since Arsene left either.
Of the players we are currently linked with our interest in Tielemens has supposed to have cooled now we have Vieira and the spuds are linked with Jesus and manure with Martinez if that is true the chances of getting either would be slim.
The trouble is we are now picking at sixth place and because of the policy over the last few years we are known to buy high and sell low.
At the end of this season Mikel will have been in charge for three and half seasons if he hasn’t achieved fourth by then it will be difficult to make a case for ever to achieve it.
As the pod points out the neutrals, the TV, and the fans haven’t even got good football to fall back on anymore. The old wob argument of it doesn’t matter how you play if you get results will not stand either if we continue to miss out on top four.
We still have over two months of the window to go and by September the first we would of watched our team play five PL matches, non of which you would rate particularly difficult by then we will have a better idea of where we stand.

  6. Raphinha for a deal of £47M plus a possible £13M in add ons, if that happens is he really going to be a squad player, back up to Saka, or will one go left wing, if so what of Martinelli and ESR

  7. I can’t see us spending 60m on Raphina and if Barca or any CL club are interested why would he come here.
Young players see us as a stepping stone to further their careers but established names would have to have no other decent offers before they choose us.

  9. Players will go to wherever offers them and their agents the best money. Champions League allows non-bankrolled clubs to make more money. I think the whole ‘player x will go to Champions League’ thing a bit disingenuous. After all, which clubs have a realistic chance of winning the Champions League? 5 at a pinch I reckon.

  12. ARSENAL have confirmed the signing of Fabio Vieira on a long term deal.
He looks like Gary Neville with a goatee, he also looks a bit lightweight and not like a footballer at all. He might have to put a bit of muscle on his upper body to adapt to the prem.

  21. really have to laugh when I see the “Arteta has elite player ID” when they are listing off his summer targets, and talking about Ramsdale, White and Odegaard from last summer, but then only minutes later see absolutely nothing wrong with the scenario that Tavares and Lokonga may be sent out on loan for the coming season. Two of last years “Arteta elite player ID”, and one year on after being trained by him they have to be sent on loan if they are to fulfill their potential. Something doesn’t add up

🚨 Arsenal have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign striker Gabriel Jesus for £45m. Still some bits to sort but #AFC on course to secure 25yo, who also had interest from Chelsea & Tottenham. Arteta’s top target @TheAthleticUK

  28. If the strong rumour is true and Arsenal have signed Jesus then a combination of KSE money, the project, the desire to be the No 1 man, and his previous relationship with Arteta have all synergised. I’m hoping he’ll be excited and will deliver (spoiler alert- he probably wont) and for at least the next few months this will feel exciting and lend hope.

  30. I didn’t think think the Jesus thing would happen.
Tim said CL thing was as cut and dried as it was before and I rubbished the idea well Tim was right and as I have had to say many a time what do I know.
I still think for him to come here means there was no interest from the spuds and chelski but finding the truth behind these deals is almost impossible.
I feel sorry for Eddie and the prospect of us signing a big name was one of the reasons I thought Eddie was a bit naive signing a new contract. Mikel has shown last season he doesn’t fancy him so he’s going to have to wait for injuries to get PL starts while first team starters at smaller clubs will get England call ups.
This is on the face of it a really exciting signing and with a couple more we could be contenders for the transfer window trophy again, two seasons running would be quite something.

  31. Gabriel Jesus certainly has the elite speed at this time of his career to trouble good CBs like Holding.

    Walcott type speed.

A Better technique on the call then Wally.

Hasn’t shown the same level of finishing in his career as Theo hit during his good injury free spells.

I don’t think Gabriel Jesus will score at a higher rate then Walcott during that injury free forward spell for the Arsenal. Could be wrong.

I’m not turning my nose up at the player, he’s better then I ever was, but with one of the best midfields and sterling and KDB behind him he has never been prolific and the difference between this kind of forward and an obviously world class predator like Aguero has been there for all to see (unless your names are Joshy or Vinai the Butler and you are snorting up the agent’s fees due for talent like aguero on players like Jesus…).

  32. I’m really hoping this is not the same mistake we have made previously made rating big names over home growns. Even a out of position Joe Willock was much better product for the team than a 72 million Pepe.
Auba was and is a very good player but Eddie is better for the team and it is a team game. Now both Auba and Jesus are PL proven but it’s the team dynamic that is key here.
The one thing that I would be happy about is Pep has said many times Jesus is more important to the team than his goal numeric. If that is true and he increases the numbers of his colleagues then he will be a fantastic addition. Personally I think the disconnect between midfield and attack and lack of goals from the full backs is a bigger problem.

  33. Gabriel Jesus has played at a high level in recent contests against The Arsenal he has certainly made a step up in recent seasons and perhaps one reason for strong rumours have arisen because he already has a strong relationship with Arteta from the coach’s time at City.
Fingers crossed it works out for all if the move happens.

I’d prefer to see the club audaciously sell a deal to Sterling’s agent highlighting that Chelsea might not have as strong a squad as they once did, (losing Rudiget is a blow for them), yes that is a dream.

  36. Interesting developments at the PGMOL. Of course we have had our gripes with them for years, but tor Mike Riley to be stood down, they must have pissed off some very big fish indeed. I always had the PGMOL as virtually untouchable. Cannot imagine City or Liverpool have too much reason to complain about the refs, Tottenham certainly don’t, but they are not really a big fish.
I am sure these refs have upset a few teams, but I wonder if Utd feel hard done by and made representations? Yes, that team have been pretty poor, refs or not, but I wonder. Perhaps just wishful thinking , the delicious irony of Utd helping force Riley out of his job , but as already posted, I am sure Utd would be very happy with Webb taking his place.
Is Clattenberg persona non grata or something?
