The 206/27 Premier League season opens with us hosting newly promoted champions from the CBS Arena, Coventry City, so it’s champions versus champions.
I’m sure all of us would have preferred to have been playing on a Saturday, as the Friday night schedule doesn’t always work in our favour, which our visitors from the midlands will be seeking to exploit, just as Brentford did some seasons ago?
Frank Lampard’s team have bolstered their system with six new players, which we can see as a sign of intent. Frankie has a 54%-win rate with this side, and Coventry come into this match unbeaten in eleven, and have avoided defeat in their last eight charabanc away-days. We have to travel back in time to 1999 to uncover the inglorious stats that show when an Arsenal side last lost to the Sky Blues (3-2), since then, all clashes with Coventry has been dominated by the Gunners.
THE MIGHTY CANNON:
Having despatched Man City and equalled Manchester United’s historical haul in the Community Shield, I’m sure we will be champing at the bit to show what we can do as title defenders? The real problem I suppose that’s been flying like a mad-bat at dusk, is a reoccurring dilemma; one we have seen that pops up time after time when a team wins a title: how do you not self-destruct in pursuit of trying to reach the next level? I have no personal answers, and to offer any I would expect to have my palm crossed with silver. How often have we witnessed the hind-sighted mumblings of fans, who have watched an extremely successful side, that pulled in the trophies, pointing out that they get broken up too soon?
Although personally I’m sad to see Trossard go, with the addition of Tzolis and Big Bruno I feel positively Arsenal, and I’m sure will do the business for us and the squad still looks balanced, albeit problems with crocked players. We do have coverage for the wounded and for the long flight of the season, and the transfer window is still open. Here’s hoping for a comfortable cruise in the wake of last season’s success, that was sometimes through harmony.

Thanks Mills for another brilliant welcome to the season.
I remember the 0-3 loss to the sky blues on the opening day of the season at Highbury.
It was the little fat Mickey Quinn who did the damage that day, a striker who couldn’t run but sure knew where the onion bag was.
There is no room for that kind of striker nowadays and everything is about the team. While fans might like star players, the successful teams work and work hard.
We will obviously have to match cov’s work rate and physicality but in the rest of the areas we should be well in front.
I believe Haji, one of last seasons highest scorers is missing and so that should help us police the counter.
Our pre-season was a complete mix and to be honest we don’t know where we are and first games of the season are very unpredictable but we have a great record against promoted sides and our players do look hungry and excited to play.
This fuels the excitement we all feel at the start of every season and the feeling this is going to be another special season and another great journey COYG.

Konsa signing has been confirmed
seems Arsenal have agreed to the signing of 18 year old striker Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers for £1M plus £2M add ons and 20% sell on clause. Arsenal have been trying to sign him for over two years, and in fact offered higher fee for him last year but Blackburn expected him to sign pro deal with them which would have increased his value but he refused.
Reports suggest he has been told he will feature for the first team this season.

now just to point out that the so called upgrade of Arsenal.com has so far this summer seen the club sell a package of coverage of all our pre season games and then been unable to show any of them.
Today we had Adrian Clarke advertise that he and Dan Roebuck would be doing full match commentary on Arsenal.com and all we got was dead air once the pre match show and the half time show was done.
Its pathetic from the club.
