Arteta Is Doing Madness, Not In A Good Way

Today @shotta_gooner has to try and restrain me as I go an a maniacal rant about Arteta’s “achievements”. the state of our play and I blame all my worldly woes on our dapper manager.

The end is neigh.

Pedantic George.

  1. Three nice goals all different all with movement through the centre. Although we can’t read more into this result then the opening match against Fulham, the goals especially the one touch classic Gunners goal did show there are some decent footballers in this squad.

Arteta is Edu’s man. Will one outlast the other? Probably not by much.

  2. Before the Utd match the blagger Ornstein blurted on 5live that many Arsenal fans are unimpressed. As predicted the blaggers are weeks & months behind the trend.
The hack dwarves feed off transfer gossip and given their need for transfer scoops we understand the inability to discuss change in model under the K’s not once not ever: the change in the model the club was built to follow. Mislintat said to the press there’d been a change in model. Has this ever been discussed at AISA etc?

Meanwhile Mislintat is tipped to move to Dortmund. The Lewins open their own clinic and football moves on.

F up after F up after F up! If the team is going to grow around Saka etc.then I agree with Shotts. Now!

As with Emery that super sharpshooter Vinai will stick to his guns. Given the grumbles out there not on Twitter I’ll feel it’s impossible to speculate if Arteta would’ve survived with fans in the ground even with the bounce of a cup win.

  3. With a clear target of 2 goals for the players the simple game plan against Prague is already known. Let’s hope it stays that way!
Arsenal don’t need Saka to beat Prague but I’d like to see Xhaka in the middle as I imagine Prague will play on the counter.
And surely all know the clicks will be heavy for an Arteta vs Emery showdown I’m confident the Gunners will win hehe. COYG.

  5. “Don’t give me great Generals give me lucky Generals” said Napoleon and I already think Mikel has been a lucky General.
He has made so many mistakes but circumstances means his job is not in the least bit under threat.
Firstly because of the way Unai left the club, then lockdown, the scapegoating of players hiding mistakes and now a very weak Europa League with the draw knocking out some of the best clubs meaning realistically the only decent team left is manure and even then we won’t meet them until the final.
Imagine us winning the Europa cup this year how fantastic does that look on paper with one F.A. cup and one Europa cup in one and half seasons makes Mikel look like the new misiah whatever mistakes he has made which you can’t see on paper.
Next season will be a reset season and Mikel won’t be judged until Christmas and if he is sitting near top six he will be safe until the end of the season.
So with all that’s gone wrong so far I can’t see Mikel going anytime soon not because he is particularly brilliant but more he has taken the job at a good time for him and for that I think he is a lucky General.

  6. I make a rule not to listen to podcasts, there generally a few people banging on about their views with no real debate. Even if they invite someone on with different views normally they are either beaten down or just not listened to.
George and Shottas I know I will basically agree with and so once again I don’t normally bother
However I’m off work this week so thought I’d give it a go. I must say I did enjoy it, George making several points on the spin until he realises the futility of it all and really fucks himself off and Shotta trying to get a word in shouting George, George, George George over and over again with George finally giving way although only because he likes him and not because he wants to.
Apart from a good laugh there is some good points and good stats mixed in although it is quite depressing realising that they are quite right and all the things I have been pretending might go right but actually I might just be clutching at straws.
I do agree about all the mistakes but like I say “lucky Generals” might just get him through or at the very least will buy him more time than he deserves.

  7. I was trying to convey I feel your frustration and pain, although we all know the fuck ups we have seen once you start saying them out loud it drives everyone to rage.
The latest fuck up is the Leno interview, saying he only has two years on his contract there has been no talks and although he is happy at ARSENAL he is open to new opportunities.
REALLY, after all the shit with Martinez he has the fucking cheek to say he might seek somewhere else is he fucking sure.
Now I know he could be saying that to improve his contract but if I was Emi I would be punching the telly.
I shouldn’t be surprised about Leno dropping the ball even in a interview. If he went now without signing a new contract meaning his value went down, the whole saga could be one of the biggest mistakes in the history of the club especially considering Leno would of fetched alot more money at the time of getting rid of Emi and we would of saved on wages as well.
That’s not even considering the positive effect having Emi would of brought at the back and the difference in points that could of made. It could quite simply be the difference between Europe next season or not even with all the other mistakes that have been made.
As PR this press conference before our most important game of the season so far was another disaster.

  8. No idea what the side is going to be tonight although I would imagine Hector and Cedric will come back in and Granite will move back into midfield. I would prefer Mari at the back as I believe he is our best CB but Mikel seems to have a thing for the hapless Gabriel so he may come back in as well.
Up top it’s anyone’s guess especially as we don’t know if Auba and MO are fit.
If there not then I think he will go Willian, ESR, Laca and Saka at the start for a mixture of youth and experience.
As usual whoever he picks COYG.

ESR and Pepe on the first goal.

Pepe on the left? Looks better to me.

Mari & Chambers’ ability to play make from the back line (better then Luiz). Good to see the season’s best CB pairing back in vogue! That’s not a slur on the raw rookie Gabriel.

There are some good footballers in this squad.

I am afraid a majority of the fans and bloggers are blind to the truth, because they cannot bear the thought of getting rid of Arteta and looking for someone else better.

The fact that we are winning 2 0 at the moment does not make me feel any more confident for the future.

As I lose interest I am sad as to how things have developed.

Is that a great performance? I don;t know as I have not seen it.

Am I being ungrateful when we have a 3 0 lead. I am sorry, but yes.

We should not get carried away as the quality of the opposition is poor, but even though, can we really be having only 37% possession? Now 36%, with 13 fouls by us and 8 by them.

  30. Good play in the first half ESR and Saka taking the game by the scruff of the neck again in the most important game of the season much like the chelski game.
Thoroughly enjoyed first half, second half very frustrating. I know we had to stay professional but even when being cautious and we got past their back line we passed on the opportunity to cross the ball. The frustration being compounded when we passed it all the way back to Leno who then kicked it long.
This was a great win but after taking them apart first half there was a real opportunity to enjoy ourselves, get more goals and then make the full five subs giving players a rest and the chance for youngsters to come on.
Although SP didn’t have any shots on target they did catch up with us on attempts and that was because of the negative way we played second half. Better sides would score if we play like this and invite them on.
At half time, generally I was thinking it was a very very positive performance but at full time once again the worries started to creep in.

  31. Ed, it’s a big advantage only going outside London once for the remainder of the league campaign.
Difficult to know if we can consistently play well for the rest of the season or even at least get ourselves up for the three massive Europa games.
Again our biggest worry is our attacking potential is almost totally reliant on two very young players.
I was chuffed to see our real Captain get the armband for the last minutes when Laca went off. It would be nice if they never take it off him again he was immense again tonight and influenced the game even from left back.

  33. Not having watched the game I cannot comment on it but, is having 38% possession, 6 shots only, with 5 of them on target, evidence if playing well?

I see a reference in the Times report this morning to our having kept the pressure on Slavia throughout the game.

Is 38% of possession and 6 shots evidence of keeping pressure on opponents?

Yes, a 4 0 win is great, but surely we should not dress it up as something it isn’t, so that we should delude ourselves into thinking that we are on the right track.

Why is it that as soon as there is a win so many fans forget about the rubbish in the many games beforehand?

  34. Usually when a team takes a big early lead they sit back so the possession stats are also telling us that story.

But it was certainly a counter attacking set up against an opponent who came out to play, not your usual Pulishite 5-5-0 formation and tactic which would’ve been understandable given they are the underdog and had the lead in the tie.

But that skill from ESR and Pepe would work against any team that is not allowed by biased or bogus association reps who do not deserve the title ‘referee’ to foul them. I recall some real stinkers from the pgmob in recent times especially against Welbeck when hauled down.

  36. When even high flying Leicester set up to play this quality squad on the counter we won’t often see this style work in the PL.

But if still manage to get your skill full players on the ball in the box, give Pepe no time to think just pass from the left then even a counter attacking team could struggle against that attack. And that will also be the challenge against Villarreal. Literally a different game of Football.

JJ’a critique is valid as you’d expect a quality squad like the Gunners to hold more possession against opponents who as Shotta correctly noted correctly were or are barely at Championship level.

Using talented tens as tens did not remove the yellow or red flags that Arteta has impaled upon his own forehead.

It only highlights the cost of all those dropped points from earlier in the season and the absurdity of trying the Auba and Willian the awful worst attacking combo in thirty years, again in recent matches.

  38. Tim, I don’t remember us going 3 or 4 up then sitting back an defending. The control came from dominating the ball with less risk taking.

  39. we played some great free flowing attacking football up to the point we took a 3-0 lead, after that it was hold what we have, my abiding memory of the second half was seeing Arteta frantically waving his arms for all our players to get back and defend once we had lost the ball in attack, we got all 11 men behind the ball as much as possible in the second half, it meant SP could not get a shot on target, it was two banks of 5 once they got within 20 yards of our goal. Its a bit disappointing that we did not go for it big time, but there was actually no reason to risk the clean sheet, my biggest gripe is that our first sub on was negative, Elneny for Smith-Rowe, why was it not Nelson or even Martinelli, 3 or 4 up and its a negative sub, for me it points to Arteta being a risk averse manager, and it explains why our best performances have come in the cups, where you have to take a little more risk if you really want to progress. For me its clear that we have the talent to be far more attacking than we are, but just like spurs under jose, the players are not allowed to be.

Having done all the hard work Martinelli all but made it 5 on the night, and in all honesty what would be the point crabbing about such a result given the game had been built up beforehand as season defining and last chance saloon.
We all watch with different lenses I guess, and it is good to have the different takes that those differences provide.
