Is Stan Kroenke Now Arsenal’s Saviour ?

So the great new dawn is upon us. We have rid ourselves of Arsene Wenger and his gang of incompetents, and replaced them with high class people that can bring us the success we deserve.

It’s absolutely fantastic. The players are drinking water, smiling, training hard, young players are involved and the manager is hands on on the training ground. These things never happened before , now did they?

That there have been major changes in personnel is undeniable. That they are all top people in their fields of expertise appears to be the case, they are certainly experienced with good track records.  Its more people with more individual responsibility and a coach with much less. Modern football? Or should I not say that because “modern football” is frowned upon by the “we want our Arsenal back” hoards. But I digress.

The point is almost every fan is happy, us included, the future looks bright. But what has actually changed other than our perceptions?

We have spent about £70m up until now, I suspect there will be outgoing and our net spend will be considerably less. So are we spending more? Is the new regime spending the money Arsene refused to? Seems not ?

Have we dipped into the £250m in the bank that should be spent on making the team as good as it can be? Seems not ? Perhaps that’s not for spending then, or not anywhere like that figure?

Are we competing for the likes of Marhez ,with City, or are we still buying from the second shelf ? It seems we are not and we still are  ! So what’s the big change?

Have we tied Aaron Ramsey down to a new deal, or is it dragging on? Dithering?

Now here is the rub, the moment many readers start shifting uncomfortably on their seat, searching for an answer that doesn’t destroy all their hard earned narratives.

If you are happy with all things Arsenal now, you have a certain Stan Kroenke to thank.

Without spending any more of the clubs money, and of its reserves ,or dipping into his own pocket for a single silver dollar, he has given everyone what they wanted ? Without being a football man or spending time at the club he has granted the wishes of the permanently malcontent.

His useless puppet (Ivan) is now the dogs bollocks. We are Kroenke FC , being driven by Ivan, and he is the very image of a none football man.

So if everything is rosy in the garden, and I hope it is, then we should be very much KROENKE IN ? He has come through big time and perhaps all the hate was for nowt?

  1. Nelson too I hope.
Glad he didn’t try and force that one in and get injured in the process.

Atletico then take the lead, mildly against the run of play, amazing header by the Madrid player.

Inexperienced teenagers being given a chance by the Arsenal in CM a harder role for rookies (like CB!) playing like inexperienced teenagers?

  5. Haha a huge cheer goes up at the ground as the big screen shows Ozil on the bench sitting next to his new German teammate who warmly laughs at his colleague’s joyous reception.

A bigger cheer then for any of the goals?

    Ozil winks at the camera.

  6. Mkhitaryan: “Arsenal knew who they were going to sign in Unai Emery. They knew he was going to play offensive football so that’s why they signed him.”

I suppose then that it won’t be too long before the usual suspects who have gone on record as saying “they want their Arsenal back” with specific demands (dummies included) will be moaning about missing GG’s catenaccio. Whilst blaphemously comparing Tottenham’s Kick rush and dive brand as equivalent to GG’s eary Arsenal team. The blinking idiots.

  7. I see it’s same old Arsenal defensively – UE has not yet worked his magic there. Our number 29 is going to have to toughen up for the PL – he’s far too easily pushed off the ball. Otherwise good to see Arsenal is still an attacking team.

  16. It’s all about Arsene Wenger!
Aubamenyang and Lacazette press the ball and it is “…..look how the forwards are working hard. I’m sorry to sound like I’m taking a dig at Wenger but we never saw this from them last season. Emery has really stamped his philosophy on the team”.
Arsenal defence all over the place in a phase of AM attack and It is “Emery would need time to sort out the mess of a defence Wenger left behind”.
The man cannot win you see. His true value and legacy will only remain untarnished in the minds of those who genuinely loved him. In the mean time, I’m excited to see how Emile progresses under Unai.

  18. Ed, Jeff is indeed a classy player however injuries happered his progress and on his return he always seemed like he was trying to hard to impress. I think once he settles into a side he will become the dangerous player who can dictate games we all see in glimces here over the years.

  19. I think Jeff’s attitude and fitness let him down. Surely we watched him on loan and in pre season. Remains to be seen if he pulls his finger out and progresses from Angers. No doubt we have a sell on clause just in case.

  20. I said it last season that every time I seen Jeff play I always was left with the feeling that he did not do all he could have. Never seen him dominate a game, yes he would in nearly all games do something fantastic, even if only a fleeting moment or two, but even in his better games, he always seemed to drift in and out of the game, you would not see him demand the ball, or take a game by the scruff of the neck and be the man. I was always left with the feeling that he really should and could have done more.

  22. just seen the Smith-Rowe goal, it was a beaut. We have heard a lot over the last year or so about Reiss Nelson, but I think this lad has more potential, as last season went on, he really grew as a player, he became a real leader for the U18’s and continued that with the U23’s. He goes in search of the ball when the team is struggling, and he is very versatile. I like his dribbling style, and his change of pace as well as direction. I see a lot of Bobby Pires about his game

  25. seemingly the Ipswich owner is not happy about losing Canadian/Mexican lad Marcelo Flores, just for compensation, as this is the second of their best prospects that ITFC have lost to a BPL side in recent weeks, after Man City signed Ben Knight.
I think Ipswich’s Academy is in the second tier of Academies which means they are powerless to stop tier 1 Academies taking their players.

  27. Emile Smith-Rowe will turn 18 on Saturday.

Emile Smith Rowe ensured he will never forget this trip to Singapore, by scoring a superb equaliser against Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

The 17-year-old midfielder beat a couple of players before sending his shot from the edge of the area into the top corner, early in the second half.

The Gunners eventually lost the International Champions Cup match on penalties, but that couldn’t wipe the smile off Smith Rowe’s face. After the match the England youth international spoke to Arsenal Media, to talk us through his first goal for the first team.

“I played a one-two with Aubameyang, one of their players tried to play it back, and I obviously got it,” he explained. “Then I saw a bit of space, and I thought ‘you know what, let me try, see what happens.’ I had time to shoot, so I just thought ‘let me try, have a chance’, and luckily it just went in. I slipped, but I’m very happy anyway.

“To play with the first team, to get my opportunity is a bit surreal to be honest,” he added. “I’m just so happy. I found out (I was going on tour) the day before. The kitman gave me a suitcase and said ‘you are travelling to Singapore’. Since then I couldn’t stop smiling. It’s been a crazy experience so far. I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.”

And it might yet get even better for the youngster, who graduated from the Hale End Academy, when Arsenal play the second and final game of the Singapore trip, against Paris Saint-Germain this Saturday.

“Yes, it’s my birthday on Saturday,” Smith Rowe said. “I turn 18, so if I get on it will be crazy!”

  28. Unai Emery on Ramsey being Arsenal captain: “This is not yet official, this decision. I said to you I want five captains in the team, then the numbers we are going to give to them, the first, the second, third, four and five. But Aaron has the condition to be one of the captains.”

  31. having more than one captain allows the manager to select the best and most suitable players for every game. rathan than having to select the captain every time he is available even when he isnt 100% fit, you will always have a captain in the best eleven even if it isnt the number one or two.
the players will also know who is to take the arm band once the captain of the day is taken off. just like you have more than one penalty takers on the team to avoid confussion. it is a pratice in many spanish clubs

  32. Five may be to many but in effect we have had two for a long time with a playing captain and a club captain. Now the squads are so big ( not just the 25) with all the associated players having two vice captains makes perfect sense, so I’m happy with four.

  33. I think Unai’s 5 captain comment is similar to Arsene’s 11 captain’s comment, UE just wants guys to lead on the pitch.
Also the idea that he lists captains 1-5 means if as already suggest above by layksite, even if 4 of them are out for one reason or another, there is no decision to be made, we know who the captain is for that game or games. Also if we have 5 guys in captain roles, it is very likely that between them every player in the squad would feel able to approach one of them if they have an issue, as its very likely that any player in the squad is friendly enough with at least one of them, to be able to bring any issues to them.

  34. two weeks today the BPL starts, and so the transfer window has only 13 days left to it, Emery says AFC will do one more signing if a player of quality is doable. I see many gooners say we really need a left winger or a winger for either side, but for me if we have a glaring weakness in the squad, its at CB, we have Mustafi, Sokratis, Chambers, Holding and Mavraponos, with Koscielny out till the new year, so that means we have 5 players available for selection at CB, although Emery has suggested that Chambers might be a central midfielder, but are those 5 actually good enough, I suggest that they are all very similar in ways, all lacking real pace, oddly enough the same applies to our U23 central defenders too. And although Mavraponos looks like he is a powerhouse dominant type in the making, he aint there yet, so that for me means at this time, we not only lack the speed there, but also the other type of CB, the big brute, don’t get me wrong, Mustafi and Sokratis both are tough strong defenders, but they are not exactly giants, both just about six foot tall, Chambers built like that too, as said Mavraponos might be the guy in the making, but he aint there yet, and Holding is tall too but is more of a ball player than rough and tumble guy. The loss of Koscielny has taken the real speed out of our CB’s.
Maybe Unai has a defensive plan that means the lack of speed is accounted for, but I’ve yet to see a top defense overcome its lack of speed without having at least one big brute of a CB in there, and as said, we don’t have that either.
Summing up, for me if we are to make one really top class signing in the next 13 days, it really would be more important to get in a quality CB than a quality forward or midfielder.

  35. reports today now say Arsenal have signed Ipswich starlet Marcelo Flores to our Academy, but not only that, his younger sister Tatiana, has signed to the Arsenal girls academy too

Marcelo Flores is eligible for both Canada and Mexico, through his parents, but as he has been living in England for a few years now, he is not that far away from being eligible for England too.

  37. Unai Emery has confirmed that Alex Iwobi will sign a new long term contract with AFC.

odd how this new regime is rewarding so many of the players “only in the team cos they are Wenger pets” with new long term contracts, Xhaka, Eleney and now Iwobi, just needs Ramsey to sign up for the full hand, the despair of the malcontents is a sight to behold.

Iwobi more so cos he reminds us at home of his uncle Jay Jay Okocha so we re glad he stays at arsenal and build up his attacking play

Mikel Obi was meant to be his heir but Jose M spoilt him for us in Chelsea… was a great attacking player in the junior world cups!

I was rather disappointed that Alex didn’t decide to continue his career with England. If Jay Jay’s your uncle you really have no other choice than to follow in his footsteps, so to say. I’m sure he’ll become a major asset Arsenal & Nigeria.

  41. What an exciting moment yesterday with Smith-Rowe’s goal.

A little poignant it was on day Jeff left. Big reminder not to get carried away, I guess, but dreaming about youngsters becoming top players is part of the fun for me and I sure am hopeful for old Emile/Ernie.

Think first saw him in our impressive youth tournament win in Ajax couple of years ago.

Always catches eye when a youngster recognises when they should use weaker foot, especially when they score!

Really enjoyable game this was. Joao Virginia the star; lot of players still at club, mostly young pro’s but a couple in 2nd year of scholarships. One I quite liked- benson- has gone and another, Tormey, saw his two scholarship years totally wiped out by injury.
