Arsenal Plan And Execute Managerial Appointment Perfectly

Dd49zRrUQAEINZI.jpg

By and large I try not to feel sad for people, but I do feel slightly sad for all those outraged at the appointment of Emery. The concept of a management team maybe putting together a job description, employing Headhunters, compiling a long list, inviting applications, holding interviews, possibly then moving on to a second set of interviews before making their final decision – and then the HR and Legal Teams working out exact details of contracts and remuneration before the decision is made public is clearly alien to them. That all this has happened seemingly so quickly – remember Arsene only announced his resignation a scant month ago – suggests to me that the process, far from being the panicked rush that some claim, has actually been carefully managed and orchestrated.

Arsene’s announcement – the eloquent tributes already in place, the talk of the future and his replacement (and don’t forget all those other appointments made this year), the magic final match, celebrations and presentations, the secrecy since then, the poignant pictures of Arsene leaving Colney for the last time – and then only hours later the bombshell announcement from Ornstein. Impressive work, I reckon, and a sign to me that the club from Kroenke down have made some cold-blooded and logical decisions with the express aim of restoring Arsenal to its position as undisputed leaders of London football – and exceptionally well-placed to mount a serious challenge to all clubs, both English and further afield.

  1. It is the sort of approach a billion £ business might adopt. That is what is so difficult for those simple souls brought up and nourished on the nonsense of red top HEADLINES don’t follow.

Having said that the manager is the manager when the club announce it, not one second before.

  5. I’d emotionally invested in the idea of Arteta and felt underwhelmed by Emery. I still see both positives and negatives with his appointment (as if I really have any knowledge or expertise in the area) but more than anything, I am now excited for the future.

Look back at Arsene Wenger waving goodbye (heartbreak)

Also, Gracias Santi. What a terrific player. Shame the injuries affected him or we might even have had a league title together. But that FA Cup goal to bring us back and break the ‘trophy drought’. The sheer skill on the ball. Amazing. All the best for the future to him. If he can play for Villareal, I’ll be tuning in to watch.

  6. Sometimes people make things so unnecessary complex when a simple explanation suffice. Thank you Heady.

Re Arteta, the idea of him as manager grew on him because of his professionalism, his values (that I think is the same as Arsène’s, ie I see Arsène in him) and a desire to succeed. So I was a bit winded last night. In hindsight his inexperience will always mean giving him the job would’ve taken some mighty balls from Ivan and co.

Happy to get Emery though and I see him ticking the ‘4 criteria’ boxes Ivan talked about. I also don’t think Arteta is lost on Arsenal. He clearly loves the club and that he made the shortlist can be seen as the suits seeing a future long term Arsenal manager in him. As Arnold said: he’ll be back.

  7. The biggest shame is all the suggested are different from Arsene but not necessarily better. It seems that all the rumpas wasn’t about ability or knowledge but just about change. Maybe the new five man system will be better but the fellar in charge of the team frankly seems status quo.

Looking forward to renewed intensity Especially from the players that
    that aren’t playing in Russia.

By the way, congratulations to Nacho Monreal for making the Spanish WC squad.
He deserves it. Best of luck to him.

  13. I see the back scratching crew are still trying to convince themselves that Arsenal had a better squad then teams above then this season.

Hmmm…I think the only team that was struggling to rebuild at the back as much have been Chelsea and they finished…one place above the Arsenal. Not because Conte had forgotten or stopped coaching his team, but because players like Rudiger just needed a little time this season not forgetting that along with Azpe. that they had at least three fit senior (competing for first team and over 22/23 years old) players available to choose from at the back, so not as patchworked as the options available at the back.

A cursory glance at The subs bench in Milan makes it clear that result was a big achievement for Arsenal Football Club.

Nevermind the Football when you have a convincing (or otherwise! LoL?) Narrative to slap yourself in the face with.

Sometimes it’s best not to run with the heard.

  14. < Chelsea defence not as patchworkwd as the Arsenal's options. Whereas last season they could still cover when playing with three at the back in a SF and final against City and Chelsea.

That is: Quite a big difference!

  17. I’m surprised at some people even on this site, who are making some ‘definite’ statements as if they were part of the recruitment process which they were not. Speculation is all well and good as long as people are clear that it is just that. The media and fake ITK’s have already named people who were definitely coming and are now trying to throw shade on the club to cover their embarrassment. I refuse to buy into it because regardless of how it happened, who was approached, when or where it makes no difference in the end. A multi-million pound business does not suddenly change its mind at the last minute about a key appointment like this. A lot of research and thought would have gone into it so I don’t buy these rumours of ‘last minute approaches’. They make good click bait but IMO are just more of the ‘what can we say to paint the club in a bad light and continue the civil war amongst supporters?’. Vieira was mentioned as a potential candidate early on and if Arteta was considered inexperienced, TH has even less to recommend him. He chose the 30 pieces of silver over the chance to be part of the club so he gets no sympathy from me. Whoever gets the job, it’s a poisoned chalice in the cesspit of the PL, MSM, PGMOL and Anti-support context in which we currently have to do business

  21. As Wenger often said, we don’t look at passports to decide who plays for Arsenal, we we simply need the best players. So too for management in my opinion. The last thing this club needs is a legendary Ian Wright or Thierry Henry, hanging around the club because of their passport or race. Don’t get me started on the legendary Tony Adams, Martin Keown or Lee Dixon. That kind of cronyism certainly did a lot for Spurs in the Rednapp-Sherwood era.

  26. If reports are true , believe this is a very exciting appointment.
Think so much of Wenger, and for that matter, Arteta, but not to be so we can move on and hopefully back a very impressive manager. Sounds a pretty tough guy as well, should be interesting. And he does tactics, whereas we all know Wenger had no tactical knowledge whatsoever. Mr Emery also makes players watch videos of the opposition, whereas Wenger regularly didn’t even know who his team were playing on a given match day. It is said he prepared for an early season Liverpool game by telling his players to beware of the threat of Harry Kane on the wing.
But, How long before we are told this new tactical master doesn’t do tactics, is soft on players, lets them turn up late for training, surrounds himself with yes men to maintain his power structure. Of course he will do nothing of the sort, but give it a year , at most before the PGMOL/AFTV/Uk media spring into action
Let’s back him all the way, he will need it, though that fixed Barca vs PSG game with the dodgy pens might give Senor Emery an inkling of what’s to come .

  30. it seems that arsenal might have pulled a fast one with regards to shirt sleeve sponsorship, the rules allow for only the right sleeve to have a sponsor on it, as the BPL logo has to be on the left sleeve, but Arsenal’s latest sponsorship deal is with BYD the Auto Company from China, and rumor has it they will be the sleeve sponsor too, and that the pink lines on the shirt sleeves and the top of the socks are linked to them, getting AFC around the one sleeve sponsorship thing

  31. There is no actual revelation here, no insider’s access, just a poor attempt at pulling disparate information into some sort of coherent and possible scenario.

Let us imagine Arsene’s thinking some two years ago. Twenty years along, a stellar stratospheric career, amazing achievements with the stadium and commercial teams starting to generate a sustainable future. His time is short maybe another five years in the pressurised environment. He has sacrificed much in producing this modern football club. This man is a master planner and creator. What potentially would be the last steps in his planning to cement Arsenal’s future? One can imagine that it involved Arsene, Ivan Gazidis and the Kroenkes in making decisions and final sacrifices for his successor and preparing the optimal environment for said person, both with players available and the high performance team needed to further support the new manager.

This intelligent man can see how the structure of the club needed to evolve to manage its increasing complexity. How true the reports of conflict and power-struggles are I do not know, honestly in all succesful business one accepts that it happens. In came the high-performance team. All chosen and recruited in an orchestrated manner, all allowed to see out existing contracts and given time to integrate themselves into their new environment. All now ready.

The final step, the person to replace Arsenal’s greatest manager. Much was made of Arsene extending his contract, with suggestions that he was unhappy in the months leading up to this. After winning the F.A. cup it would have been as good a time to leave as any. Personally and selfishly I was delighted that he chose to remain and renew his contract.

The reality was possibly that this was Arsene’s final sacrifice. To stay and allow the person to become available. As Foreverhady posted the decisions were being made years ago. Those identified as potential successors were either (and most likely) under contract until the end of the 2017-18 season, or were being given further time to develop (a much less likely scenario with both Arteta and Patrick Viera considered but both potentially fine future managers). And it appears that this the case.

This could just be absolute bollocks and a deluded total fiction but it helps me cope with all the other nonsense sprouted about our club currently in the press and various sites.

We can talk about main stream media when people on this site don’t read what you write properly , it can lead to confusion.
If the opening point asks a question or you try to understand what is someone’s reasoning, you need to ask pertinent questions.

I say what I see, I don’t write things for clicks, if you make statements that are ahead of the curve, you are often seen as a trouble maker, argumentative or crazy.

My question for everyone was why did you think Arteta would be a better coach than Vieira?
    What evidence did you have?

    The answers were:
Why do you think Vieira would be better?
My answer to that he has some sort of record at youth, now at first team level a coaching record that could be critiqued.
He has staff ,ex-players,opposing coaches who talk about him and the way the speak of him.
There is video of actual matches he has coached
He is an actual Arsenal legend

    For Arteta

The best answers I recieved were :
he has been sat next to Pep for two season
    Pep said he was great
He wrote a manifesto a mission statement
He has got great hair and looks good in a suit.

It was suggested I thought Arteta was shit because I asked what has done to deserve it more.
It was suggested because Arteta took a pay-cut to come to Arsenal.
As I explained at the time, Cesc took a pay cut to got to Barca, Arteta is not unique in that respect. He wanted to play for a big club in the Prem he sacrificed to get the move. He did not have to wait long to get his raise.

The last one was Vieira will leave or be wanting to leave every season because that is what he did when he was a player. Boring old stick to beat Vieira with, Arsenal 97-05 is not Arsenal financially today.
Who is to say Arteta would not leave for Barca sighting ‘unfinshed business’ for E500 million and a chance to coach Messi.

That was what I was trying to understand last week just a debate with what I presumed were clear thinking fair minded Positive Arsenal fans

If you call yourselves Positive Arsenal fans, you should not have not fear of debating fellow fans, without turning to insults and condecending language.
Alas I see that is not the case with some

Of course I write things you might not agree with, it may make you feel uncomfortable, so uncomfortable you could not approach me with it . Which shows clearly there is a problem, it irked you, you addressed it with someone else. What I wrote mentality and emotionaly exposed you.
I have on occasion spoken about problems at Arsenal training bases, I said I would not expose some of the stories out of respect for the people involved, then in the last month the revelation that two coaches were supended for issues that I hinted at.
Arsenal are not golden but at least they try to confront some of the issues they have Markyb, you have issues are you man enough to confront them.
