Two More Years – At The Very Least BTW !

273A975C00000578-0-image-a-31_1427984156981.jpg

So today we can expect an official announcement from the club which will confirm that Arsene Wenger will continue as Arsenal manager for at least a further two years. This news will be met by varying degrees of enthusiasm and disappointment across the fanbase, media and social media.

First let me try to make my feelings clear – Yabba Dabba Doo!

This is absolutely a triumph of sense over stupidity. There is no way that our greatest ever manager ,being at the helm for an extended period, can be anything but a tremendous result for the club.

Make no mistake about it, Arsene Wenger is a colossus of an elite manager. In fact he is the very epitome of “elite manager”. I believe he is every bit as good as he ever was, all this bollocks about him being past his best is just that – BOLLOCKS.

Lets consider for a moment who wanted him out.

We can start with the easy and obvious target, the absolute melts on AFTV. Seriously, just look at and listen to this shower of Muppets. I seriously doubt any of them could tie their own shoelaces, and they must surely have supervised meal times.  They have consistently embarrassed the lot of us by association to the club. They claim Arsenal are mocked by fans of other clubs, well too right they are, and they are the main reason. People defend Robbie, saying he gives the fans a “voice”, but he doesn’t, he give a select few idiots a platform. He cultivated the stupidity, it’s his garden, they are his weeds. He could have taken AFTV in any direction, but he chose to make it The Jeremy Kyle Show.

The vast majority of Arsenal bloggers haven’t helped either. These special leaders of opinion have taken every opportunity to show us how smart they are and how stupid Arsene and the board are.  They spout their expert opinions on failures in tactics formation, fitness, players, finance, well everything really, and most of them are doing it for no other reason than to let the readers know how much they understand about football. The problem is it actually shows anyone with an ounce of sense the very opposite. They know nothing worthwhile. Nothing. Zilch !

Podcasters, see above, except they love the sound of their own voices as well. Again, I have to say “most of them” As with bloggers,  there are some rare exceptions to the rule.

Pundits?!?!?! . We are served up with what can only be described as a bunch of tossers that think management is “paint by number” . Forget Arsene for a moment and see how they have now collectively decided Pep doesn’t understand English football. The qualification for the job appears to be that they once played football and are incapable of actually doing a job in management. Their stupidity is without bounds . To be fair, they get nothing right, it’s just we notice their crapness more when they speak about our own specialised subject. The Arsenal.

Twitter super fans. These might just be the worst of the lot, they are known for nothing in life apart from their hatred of Arsene Wenger. They are an embarrassing stain on Arsenal’s underpants.

Just watch them all start playing the victims now and claiming they did it for the love of the club. Well no, they did it because they are no marks that saw an opportunity to become somebodys. And guess what? They will all be fuming because the club has recognised they are nobodies and ignored their pathetic drivel. I don’t care how many readers, listeners of followers they have, they are important only in their own minds and to the sheeple that are stupid enough to be led by the nose and accept the bilge they spew.

Where do we go from here then? Do we say “let’s forget that they did everything possible to destroy our season and move on” ? Well no, because they won’t move on, they are defined by the toxic atmosphere they created. They are nothing without it. They will cling to it like Ishmael clinging to the wreckage of their sunken protests. There is no point offering an olive branch because they don’t want to grasp it.

All we can do is try to ignore them. Those that backed the manager and those that respectfully wanted a change can come together. The decision has been made. Lets move along together, And here is the important part – Give the club and the team the best atmosphere to thrive in.

Just last Saturday we got a glimpse of what the team is capable of. We saw Arsene’s vision of how he want’s his team to play. We have won 3 trophies in the 4 years since spending restrictions were loosened. But we are told we are regressing. Bloody hell. It makes my head spin.

I got asked a question on twitter (loaded of course) it was “do you really think Wenger will win the PL in the next 2 years”. My answer is no, I don’t believe he will. But what I do believe is Arsene gives us the best chance to defy the odds and win it. We might spend £100m in this window, but City (for example) with one of the best managers in the world. with a squad already packed full of hugely expensive players, will spend £300m. So I “expect” a team like them to win it. But I hope our continuity and the brilliance of Arsene can do the business.

It’s clear there has been a disagreement at board level about something. However Arsene is unlikely to either tell us about it or allow anyone else to do so. Whatever it was Arsene has prevailed. There will be no Director of Football selecting transfers and deciding who should be sold, sense has won the day and whatever faults Kroenke might have he has backed the proven winner. There may be casualties, but at least we can be confident that when push comes to shove, Stan knows what is in the best interests of our great club. And that is Arsene Wenger, all day, every day and twice on match days.

That’s it then, everyone that can come behind the manager, players and club have this opportunity to do so. We should take it and ignore the proven failures that refuse to want to support unconditionally.

Did I mention I was happy?

  1. seemingly Ivan Gazidis sent the following message to Arsenal staff in an e mail today

“I am writing to you to let you know that we’ve agreed a two-year extension to Arsene Wenger’s contract as our manager. Know there has been significant speculation around this over the past 24 hours but it is important we do things in the right way which is why we have not commented until now,”

“I want you to know this is a decision that has been taken in the best long-term interests of the club. We are clear that Arsene is the best person to help fulfil our ambition to win the Premier League and other major trophies in Europe.

“Arsene and I have conducted a full review of our on and off pitch activities to identify areas for improvement to build a sustained tale challenge. We will be working on this during what will be a busy summer and look forward to another exciting season starting in August.

“I recognise this has been an unsettling time for many of you and thank you for the way you have maintained your focus during the period. It underlines the importance of always being together and staying true to our principles and values. Enjoy the summer and thanks again. Ivan Gazidis, Chief Executive.”

  2. one thing that is clear from the reaction by the WOB, be it plyes morgan, the uber bloggers, the AFTV mob, and the twitteratti to the signing of this new contract is how utterly devoid so many of them are of honesty. so many of them in the last few days said “2 year deal, we have failed, we move on, get behind the team” some said they would no longer indulge in Wenger out, or Wenger hate stuff, yet the minute the contract is officially announced we have Morgan with seemingly a dozen twitter rant, AFTV loudmouths going ape shit, bloggers up in arms.

    to paraphrase wenger

you are dishonest to your club

George you did not go hard enough on them in your article above.

I’ve said it before but its worth repeating, Arsenal FC have to take action against those that attack the club, starting with withdrawing season tickets from Morgan, AFTV crew and the bloggers who attack the club. Get them out, they don’t deserve an Arsenal ticket

  4. well from Wenger’s comments, we are in for a busy summer transfer wise, but we will be seeing a lot more players leave than new arrivals. He basically said, we have a top heavy squad, need to move a lot of it out, and bring in a few players of real high quality.

I think we are likely to see the departures of many of these players

    Ospina, Szczesny
Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Gabriel, Mertesacker, Chambers
    Wilshere, Campbell, Coquelin,
    Walcott, Sanogo, Giroud, Lucas, Akpom

  5. no DoF, but I think we will still see an addition to the admin side, helping with transfers and contracts among other things, a DoF but under a different name, and of course working for Arsene, not above him.

  7. Els, for some of those I listed they will move cos of where they are/will be in the pecking order once we have done our incoming business. Giroud has stated a few times now that he is not happy about being second choice, he only started 11 league games this season, he is said to be worried that he will lose his France place for the World Cup if its the same next season, Walcott did not start a game once we changed formation, barely got on as sub. its the same for Szczesny and Ospina, and even Cech, whoever is not first choice will unlikely hang around,

  8. Saying that though Eduardo, I doubt management would make an effort to remove plan B. Giroud will always get games. I hope that he can be made happy. As do they.

  9. Personally I hope we keep Scez. Get him back and tell him he’s posing a real threat to the number 1 position. He might be up for the fight.

Also at least one of Gibbs, Mertersacker, Chambers, Wilshire has got to be kept. Coquelin isn’t an option to leave surely?

  10. Well done PG.

I waited for official conformation before allowing myself triumphism stuff – celebrated with another sip of hot ginger tea. I’m very happy that the club remains adamant that all will be done correctly – the Arsenal way (copy rite).

I’ve watched a video of Robbie (aftv), nagging. How horrible. Don’t bother. Go away.

    Match time 75:30
“Özil, with Luis. Quickly in, smartly in, fairly in”…

So said the BBC commentator. In fact Luis had hit Özil from behind and fouled him at least twice before passing the ball to Kunté, and 7 passes later the ball was put beyond Ospina into the goal.

Why do plundits, press, bloggers & meedja never talk about this crap? (I think I know).
This and the related narrative is the simple reason Arsenal haven’t won the championship for awhile. One rule for Arsenal, blah blah blah. You know it.

Arsene could’ve long gone and earned bigger money and gotten better results, but he has stayed with the club I LOVE.

    I love him for that.

  19. ray we won the 3 fa cups in the last 4 years, why go back 11 years, does it suit your agenda, as it distorts the position we are now in. Do you understand the financial position we were in from 2005 to 2014, do you actually think our manager wanted to sell his best players. If you do, then to coin your own phrase, you are delusional.

you ask have we considered what a different manager might have won us, well have you considered that a different manager might have won us nothing, that we might have struggled like the vastly wealthier Man Utd have since Sir Alex retired, they went from champions to being unable to make top 4, and are now on their 3rd manager in 4 years.
By the way we have considered that a different manager might win more than Wenger, but believe that its unlikely. Now to you that is not what you want to hear, so you will try and blame us for your lack of support for the club you claim to love and support. Don’t blame us or anyone else for your own actions.

  21. Rays not mad it’s just taking him a few days later to sober up after he went crazy celebrating the record achievement by the club that he apparently supports. It’s understandable.

I’d advise that when celebrating such glory, when celebrating true grit, to not to take ten tabs of LSD, or snort half a rainforest, or drink waaaaaaay too much. But somehow I get the impression that honest Ray knows more then me, and I wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite anyway *hic*.

  22. Its a sad day when Newcastle fans have to lecture Arsenal fans on how great Arsene Wenger is.

‘Thanks for that. Spoilt little ones aren’t we? A few FA Cup? The man has won more FA Cups than any other manager in history. He’s won more of them in 20 years than all but a handful of clubs have won in their history. He’s won three league titles and reached two European finals. The problem is, there are plenty of us who remember Arsenal pre-Wenger. And let’s just say a great many of the ones whining like you wouldn’t be anywhere that club had he not shown up at the door. Have some respect.’

  24. Gaah..Stupidity does my head in.

Glad to have this oasis to come and soak my noggin in. Two more years of Wenger..at least.. Yes please. We want more!

Still, a busy summer for Wenger and the club, and this rumoured new behind the scenes appointment. Sorting out contracts for Ozil. Alexis and Ox. Deciding the futures of Ospina, Szczesny, Wilshere, Campbell, Gibbs and it seems Perez. Bringing in players. Figuring out how to deal with the idiot loudmouths and the still dishonest to their federation Men in Black (or Yellow or Pink)

All the same, I am feeling very optimistic about next season. However the season went, we’ve been building up our club gradually, and are in a position where even the lack of CL, as long as it is a blip, should not be a huge impediment to success (both financially and in terms of recruitment)

It’s funny that Gazidis has gone back to being a useless good for nothing fellow to those who see those words whenever they look in a mirror, now that he actually came out and spoke well of Wenger and the club. Corporate ‘spin’ apparently. Maybe they would have preferred Peter Hill-Wood to indulge in more plain speak? Not that they liked it the last few times.

There is zero chance these parasites quieten down or go away next season. None. Hopefully the rest of us, and the club with their performance can keep them hiding in the shadows just waiting for when it’s safe to come out.

Speaking of safe to come out, Usmanov at least had the grace to acknowledge Wenger staying on was a good thing. It might be the first time he’s poked his head out when there’s some good news. Of course he had to go and then dump his vague/misleading agenda driven statements all over that. Where was the joy in this true Arsenal fan at our record FA Cup triumph? Could he not release a statement then or say something about it now? (Apologies to him if he did and I missed it – because I couldn’t be bothered to know what he thought)

  25. oh ah, so many assumptions!
Amazingly the most disrespectual one is that if you support Arsene you cant br a real supporter of the club, the amount of years of devotion racked up by those on this site disproves that straight away and by the way I was on the north bank when you could sit down on the terraces and throw a bag of peanuts at the nearest other punter. Yes we havent always had full houses or had a team even the most diehard gooner could call good. When youve watched that and still come back from more you are a real supporter.
Then the assumption that any board would have sacked the most successful manager in their history around 08/09 when we had been at the CL final in 06 and were unlucky not to win the league in 08.
The next assumption is that if any manager was brought in would be more successful than Arsene bearing in mind the finnacial restrictions the club was facing until the last two seasons.
If the first manger in after Arsene didnt acheive sucess within two seasons he would have probably been replaced anyway and then it would of been even more difficult for the next manager and so on and so on, the downwood spiral could of been disasterous.
The other fact oh ah has ignored is with Barca, Real, Bayern, Chelski, Man city and Manure will always get first choice of both managers and players before us, this discounting the south americans love of Portugal and Spain and forgeting Italy altogether.
It is all very well playing fantasy football and taking scunthorpe to the Champions league but reality doesn’t work like that. Ambition is wonderful however you have to temper that with risk, I intend to keep supporting this club for a long long time and I dont want it blown away because we wanted to take a risk on winning a few pots short term.
So based on all your assumptions I can see why Ray Palours mrs give him such a spanking in court.

  30. if any of the malcontents really do want to unite with the real supporters, then it is very simple, it is totally in their hands, there is not one thing any of us can do to make the changes needed in their behavior, that is for them to do. Their unite calls are mere eyewash, if they are genuine in their calls, then all they have to do is stop their nonsense and get behind the team, the manager and the club. But they have no intention of any such thing.

  31. just a thought, I’m sure Arsene did not sign this new two year deal for sentimental reasons, or for any reasons of fear of moving on, or even out of his love for Arsenal, but because he really does think we can win the league within the span of his contract, and most likely next season.
So what did Kroenke, Gazidis and the Board promise Wenger, to make him believe that we will make the step forward. Wenger says we need to keep our better players (Ozil, Alexis, etc), and we need to add two or three, “top top quality”, so have the top guys promised to keep our stars, and buy him whatever targets Wenger has on his wish list.
I would suggest that they have.

should giroud move on, we need to replace him like for like. or else, we go back to the era of no plan B. i doubt if there is any better than him apart from lewy ofcourse.

  41. ‘People have already started waking up to the empty rhetoric,’ Mark King, one of the group’s members, told the London Evening Standard. ‘The Cup Final was great but nothing has changed.

‘It won’t take long for the frustration to return to the level it was at after the Crystal Palace game.

‘Yesterday was like our Dunkirk, a bit of a defeat but we’ll take some glory from the fact we gave it a good shot. We’ll regroup and plan for next season.’

Another member, Chris Butler, added: ‘We’re going to be all over him. We’re not going to stop.’

This group wasn’t named oddly enough, but that shouldn’t be a problem. Look at these a-holes… Like seriously. Dunkirk? They fucking think they are in a war, and are the good guys to boot. Who cares about the football? They hope that the frustration returns to the level it was it, because why would we want to enjoy a sport?

They want to be revolutionaries and achieve something which will make them feel important.. Even if nobody gives a toss about them… which is why they have to make everyone ‘care’ by being annoying gits.

I’m not a violent person but sometimes I really want to just smack the shit out of some people.

Seems pretty clear that they are living for defeats and really get off on the opportunities it gives them.

Can’t help thinking of an interview this week with that odious creep Aaron Banks, who bankrolled the Leave efforts to tune of six million.

Now that it’s done, he admits reality is different to all the rhetoric they used. The truth to him is that he doesn’t really have a clue what will happen now but thinks it is good to tear things down and shake things up and just see what happens next. He’s open that he saw it as a war where the only thing that mattered was winning by any means.

In other words he admits, gloats rather, that he lied throughout, as that stance could not possibly have won with voters.

Ah, but maybe I give them way too much credit and those dumbos really believe a magical wonderland awaits without Wenger where, for instance, the financial realities of the present disappear and we can match City and co for spending. Perhaps the only thing they have is common with him is their Leave vote.

all 4 named above have come out with what they surely know is impossible for arsenal to do, namely outspend man city, man utd, chelsea, not only on transfer fees, but on wages too. the go on about it like its no problem to Arsenal to spend £300M+ each and every summer, and of course pay lots of players £300,000K+ a week (£15M+ a year), and of course if city, utd, cfc, then spend bigger and pay more, we can just outbid and outpay them. Whatever about heny, hartson and keown, the one that should, and certainly does know better is Adams, he has been on the admin side at several clubs in his role as general manager etc, and was at Portsmouth when they overspend their way to the third division. But he has a book to sell.
