What Are Referees Up To ?

From yesterday’s game we can see that officials have two different interpretations of the laws of the game, how can one team compete if they are playing to a different interpretation of the rules to the other team.

The officials are now making more and more match defining decisions per game, they are not just officiating the game to the rules they are changing the game.
Yes you can call me paranoid if you want but when Chambers was sent off my timeline exploded with criticism of the ref the same happened when Sanchez was wrestled to the floor by his neck by Adam.
How can teams compete with ref’s having such fluctuating interpretations of the laws of the game. This problem isn’t a new one it has been going on for a while but it has become more obvious this season, clear penalties not given, bad fouls let go, soft fouls (Gibbs today in the 1st half) given for almost breathing on a player.
Managers like Wenger are playing with one hand tied behind his back, he doesn’t know and you can bet the players don’t know what they can and can’t do on the pitch. If the foul Gibbs was pulled up for was a foul how did Stokes 1st goal stand when Crouch jumped for the ball wasn’t that a slight push and so a free kick .
This isn’t a defend Wenger post because he has to take the blame for the 1st half but come on unless you are totally blind and hate Wenger so much you must see the problems Arsenal and in truth other teams are having with officials. There is no consistency in their officiating today, it is almost like they are trying to even games up with decisions to make it a competitive game.
We have no knowledge or understanding of what the refs report after games, the PMOGL are a secretive organisation who give very little information out. They run the PL officials like their own little mafia organisation.
The thing that really annoys me more than that is that I can see it, you can see these odd decisions, there are blogs who dedicate themselves to this debate (the excellent www.untoldarsenal.com) etc but the media, the all knowing media do not say a word.
Where is the investigation into why we have so few refs in the PL, why no questioning of the PGMOL and why ref’s can’t speak to the media. Why are ref reports not published to the outside world, why can with unerring correctness untold Arsenal predict which refs will get which games and how that ref will act. Why are there no refs in the PL from the south of England, the area of the country with the highest population but no PL refs?
How can in eight months of football the team with the most touches of the ball in the penalty box only have received only 2 penalties in the PL. A foul is a foul it doesn’t matter if you do not go to ground in the penalty area it is a foul and so a penalty.
This has moved on from my rather glib and sarcastic post earlier, this is now more than about Wenger this is affecting all clubs to one extent or another either positively or negatively.
Too many clubs are receiving or not as the case maybe the points they deserve because of strange decisions from officials

  1. Well done Swales. U nailed it on the head.
Anthony Taylor is a disgrace. I can’t even think of what to say as regards most of his decisions. It was only the frantic waving of the flag by the lino that gave us the penalty. To Taylor it wouldn’t have bn a penalty.
As much as Arsene must accept responsibility for ue being short in numbers in the defensive line, the PGMOL must equally accept the responsibility of why the PL is a shite competition.

  2. Anthony Taylor the so called referee showed once again his bias against Arsenal,as predicted by Untoldarsenal.com two days before the game. For me Arsenal should do something so that Taylor and Dean should stay 100 miles away from Arsenal as untold said.
It is a fact that Arenal ( Arsene ) has to shoulder responsabilty for not having adequate reserves, but I am morally convinced that PMOGL is responsible much more when everyone knows the bias some referees have against Arsenal, and the two mentioned are on the front
So Arsene try to persuade who’s responsible to lodge a formal protest,if DEMOCRACY exists in English Football

  5. We discussed the number of CBs required in the summer on this board. For me unpunished ankle stomps allowed in Football that take out top level players like Arteta and Wilshere for months without even being called fouls are a bigger problem then not having an extra (4th/maybe 3rd choice) CB in the squad.

  6. Thanks Swales. We know that some of the refs at least are follwing the Untold reviews.

At the end of the day all arsenal fans should be capable of having the footballs to admit to themselves that not even the Invincibles could compete on a tilted pitch. We know this, and I can write the above, because we all saw it. Most certainly not an opinion!
And as exposed elsewhere Riley’s reward for that “performance” was that he is now the clown in charge of the circus.

  11. Looking back to March 1st this year we went to Stoke who, at the time had won one of their last ten matches, played a poor first half and saw our title hopes at the time ( yes in March we were still just four points off the leaders even after the game) dented badly by Kosc’s handball and a Walters penalty.

As yesterday our second half display much better than our first but an inexplicable lack of application at the time it mattered.

Fast forward nine months, Stoke come into the game without a win in eight, different Arsenal faces and certainly less experience but the same result.

Blame the referee, the linos, or in fact go totally Jose, and blame the ballboys if you want.

Trouble is we cannot turn over Stoke, by any measure we are better than they are yet we lose, and we need to.

  13. Stoke is not a tactical problem for Arsenal, it is not a problem of personnel or numbers or, in my opinion, refereeing. It is a psychological problem.

I’m fond of that explanation you may have noticed !

  14. losing to stoke is annoying… i really did fancy Newcastle who have been coming up with some unexpected results and runs to beat Chelsae,,, also expected us to close the gap by at least a point…. not happy we didn’t take that advantage….

We really need to work on this slow start thing we always seem to have once in a while and to really really take our chances… i recall watching spurs throw away chances versus Chelsea and being almost certain that Chelsea would score 2 goals in 4 mins once they get their own chances which they did,,, our bigger problem is in not taking our chances more than anything else… we have conceded goals a plenty in past the difference is when we have had that bad run in defending we have usually compensated by nonscoring the opposition which we are currently not doing

As for the ref, i always count them as part of the opposition cos i rarely see any arsenal game where the ref has not done their bed to be on the opposition;s side .. some less than others, but it has been happening.

  17. One of the problems is it is hard to be taken seriously if you moan about the refs after gifting goals in the first few minutes – or, indeed, if you play badly. That is not to say that the ref didn’t play his part, but rather the time to complain loudly is after winning, not losing.

With regard to yesterday, it was always a game I expected we would lose, and my only real surprise is that thus far I haven’t heard of a major injury to any of our players. If it is psychological (as AndyNic suggests) then we will need to replace most of our players, as there is no point persevering with those who are beaten before they start in certain matches. If it is down to mental and physical fatigue then I would point to the near perfect storm of our injuries and suggest that there are only so many tackles or challenges a player can make. There is certainly a limit to how many different tactical roles a player can take on board in a short space of time, and the likes of Chambers probably don’t know their arse from their elbow at the moment. Yesterday was a bridge too far for most of them, I suspect, and the danger after massive disappointments like yesterday is to over-react and end up throwing the baby out with the bath water. The reality is that the fit men that are holding the fort are in desperate need of reinforcements, and we can only hope that a few return sooner rather than later.

There is still much to play for, and it could yet be an exciting and fine season, even if it doesn’t feel much like it right now.

Stoke are no mugs at home. They fucked Mourinho there last season and they beat City at Mordor this season. The fact that we almost came away with a point, despite being down to bare bones, is a huge positive as far as I’m concerned. Had Taylor not given Chambers that first, soft booking and he had been on the pitch for the last minutes, I’m confident we would have eked out a result.

  28. Arsene will take the usual lumps for the shambolic defending in the 1st half but I refuse to join the lynch mob given the difficulties all top clubs had last summer in signing central defenders. Chelsea is one injury short of having to rely on Kurt Zouma who is a disaster-waiting-to-happen at this level. Look at the shambles in the United defense after spending a fortune on new signings. Despite our improving finances these clubs would blow us out of the water in an arms race. Frankly injuries and the constant reshuffling has robbed us of stability. What I fear is we might do a Dortmund. Unfortunately unlike the Germans we don’t have enough sensible fans immune to the emotional media inspired hysteria who are willing to stay firm through the highs and now the lows.
As for the refereeing standards, English football can continue with its head in the sand. If it continues incorrect end, this will inevitably lead to the loss of the league’s integrity, sooner or later. American football which is probably just as dependent on tv ratings, if not more, was forced to introduce more transparency in their officiating. I don’t foresee any short run changes because the victim is those fancy-dan wusses from North London.

Please note, dear reader, it was incapable of denying a trolling campaign over years conducted as exposed on Untold by a small number of disturbed idiots. What happens on the pitch is an irrelevance, you saw it when AFC were top of the league last year. After they’ve won the FA Cup. It’s what I wrote about the other day- the svidence ha staked up to conclude that what happens on te football downs to matter for these sick people. Of that there can no longer be any doubt.

  43. In yesterday’s game there were some INEXPLICABLE ref decisions.

    1) Arsenal take a quick free-kick, giroud is clean trough on goal, THEN the ref pulls back the free-kick. WTF?
    2) Alexis throw in. Both of his feet were on the ground. It is very seldom one sees these fouls given even if someone does a wrong one, and it was even a correct throw in.
    3) The red card. The commentators said that this was the first time that ref had given a red card in 13 months. When you consider the other events in the game, well go figure…

One thing is calling a penalty or not calling a penalty that is hard to see, but bending the rules of the game to suit one team is a clear indicator of corruption.

  45. Disappointing result, though not all that surprising considering Taylor+stoke=difficult to get a result. My 2 cents worth, Gibbs was either rusty or still injured as he is a better player than what he showed yesterday. We must finish clear cut chances when we get them. Giroud and Sanchez had to score. Giroud’s chance in particular would have changed the game. As for Sanchez, had he laid it off to Giroud it may have been an easier chance to convert. Still all to play for but we need a winning streak…

And yes, Taylor just like Riley looks like a bell end and refs like one too!

Arsene is a great man to have chosen to still be with the club after all this rubbish given to him by these mentally deranged people. I believe someday, these fools will look back at this club and Arsene and realise they are not worth living among human beings.

  49. Chambers gave away two fouls yesterday and got a yellow for each foul, with neither being what could be termed a serious foul, yet Adams gets away with putting Alexis in a headlock without a foul being call, let alone a yellow card. Crouch got away with flaying elbows and arms all game long. Taylor should never have been allowed ref an Arsenal game again after his performance in the Aston Villa game last season, in fact he should never have been allowed to ref in FAPL again he is that bias and inept. But mike riley and the PGMOL love refs like Taylor.
