Arsenal’s Motion Starts Poetically.

It’s Gooner-stic, I say

Sight and sounds of opening day

Red army to the fray

Proud, ambitious, ready to slay.

While pundits babble and predict

Bringing comfort to the pessimist

Gooners remain optimists

Full in knowledge that signings are no mist.

So Palace to be the test

Fully prepped but leaderless

From the south they came

Up for the physical game.

Emirates buzzing

Fans anticipating

Twitter palpitating

Some surprise the gaffer is springing.

Tweet goes the whistle

At last an end to the tattle

Arsenal on the front foot probing

Palace in the trenches, countering.

First blow, set piece comes their way

Hangerland causes dismay

Down in the bottom corner, scoring

Visions of an upset soaring.

But this Arsenal refuses to fade

Making attacks, forcing a foul to break-up the play

Up step Alexis, ball in flight

Around comes Kozzer, neck muscles tight.

So its second half to decide

Substitutes tilting from the side

Chamakh yellow, Puncheon red

Palace clinging, as if ready to bed.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man

A corner won, arcing from right hand

Downward header by Giroud, Debouchy lashes

Never in doubt as Aaron smashes.

Three points bagged, no scapegoat to blame

Gooners are happy, doomers ashamed

Onwards and upwards is the positive claim

As the joy of opening day forever remains.

We are moving up market with Shotta. Poetry now, whatever next?

Now I am off to eat some cheese on toast…

    Erm…

I have nt seen any of the game highlights, but I have read people suggesting Arsenal were poor yesterday…. That wasnt how I or others sat/stood around me saw things… It was a potential banana skin alright and we overcame it and the Palace tenacity and time wasting too.

    Job well done.

  31. Who now ? Gains the useless …calling hunter13 a doomer? … when hunter13 has been ‘holding the fort’ the last 7-8 years you cant say such things. As ridiculous as calling djourou better than hummels.

  32. And i like to solve problems, address issues…its how ive been taught…not nice letting things stink and pollute the atmosphere but this cretin says one thing and expects to be passed as law. Example1: rodriguez overhyped. Response: 3 years at porto 25 goals from midfield aged 20-23….lol…. 40m to monaco..top scorer of wc with solid performances and now wears the 10 of madrid…lol…not liking a player is not a reason to belittle them unless we are talking chelsea and united players who are utter scum and an obstacle to our domestic supremacy.

  33. Example 2 : ancelotti cant play tens and ruinned ronaldinho. Responce: this is an outrage . Carlos played with 3!!!!!! Tens ffs…. and won msjor trophies with kaka seedorv pirlo. ronaldinho ended his career prematurely. For me, noone has reached ronaldinho’s two-three year spell at barca. Not cristiano, not messi. But i will recognise that he called an end to it and was mostly motivated by parties in mykonos. Milan was playing sunday and ronnie was in salonika with the jet on friday-saturday. Which manager will ever accept such behaviour?

Example 3: suarez is a diver racist cheat whatever. Responce: besides this being one of my favourite subjects in football to talk about, it would be nice if people read the official statements of the f.a panel who declared suarez non racist as well as evra agreeing !!!!!!. Lol… but lets not this get in the way……

In general whatever i state/claim, i back it up. Others dont do that……they just say something and when you ask them to explain they get angry and burn bridges or call you a doomer…lol…sort it out.

…so we won’t be signing him then.

It is going to be very difficult to find a first rate CB benchwarmer.

  45. I cannot help wondering whether, if Tommy Vermaelen was still an Arsenal player, the Groaners would not be rabbiting on about him not being fit to even travel to Istanbul as he has not got over his World Cup injury ?

I reckon the Groaners would be baying for TV to be sold “Deadwood’ etc.

I’d would have been happy to keep Tommy but lets get it clear, he is currently injured and would not be playing in Istanbul. With his record of fitness over the past two years it would be a bold Arsenal (or Barca) fan to put too much reliance on TV.

I don’t begrudge Tommy wanting to move on to new pastures – his chances of getting into the first Xi were very limited once Kos and Per got into the groove.
Even when a chance arose during the season he usually had an unfortunate injury to prevent any chance of a comeback.
He still managed to maintain a dignified face throughout his travails, unlike some former captains.

Good luck to Tommy at Barca. Himself and Song isn’t the worst CB combination they could use.

  47. But we dont need tommyv only for early season. We would have needed him in those periods where we play every 3 days epl cl and f.a…..too many games for per-kos to play in them all. What disppoints me a bit is how he asked to go now that we are going places…. sagna was waiting for offer. Different story.

  48. Tommy Vermalen is an sample of a new problem Arsenal may begin to experience more of, now that we are signing more higher quality squad players.
Considering as the boss can only call 11 of them to start, plus a small subs bench – how does he keep 15 or so other players happy in the squad?
I think that is why he is quoted as saying UCL group stages is vital for us this season.

City’s and Chelsea’s answer to that problem is to give ’em so much in wages they are to busy leafing through their Ferrari catalogues to care.
