The Colossus Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal’s brightest young star set to shine again

I read yesterday that Arsenal intend to offer Aaron Ramsey a double your money contract extension  ( http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/10676875/Arsenal-set-to-reward-Aaron-Ramsey-with-100000-a-week-deal.html ) .

Aaron is in the same position as Jack, AOC, Gibbs and Jenkinson in that he is about one year into his current deal.  So why would the club consider this move, at this time?

I saw a few people on twitter questioning both what he has done to deserve this, and is it right when he has so long remaining at a much reduced salary.

So lets consider the first part: “What he has done to deserve this?

My answer to that would be: “Are you kidding? Are you mad?

Aaron was, prior to his recent injury,  by a clear margin, the best midfielder in England this season and the last part of the previous one.

He gives balance to the team in a way that perhaps only Diaby could match. We just have not looked the same team without him.

He is a magnificent player who quite literally has it all. Pace unrivaled over the course of a game; heart, skill, composure, stamina, assists and goals.  On top of that he is a charming young man who epitomises class.  And still only 23 years old. It’s frightening to think how good he will end up.

Coming back from having his leg smashed beyond recognition by the Captain of the Orks to be able to play to any decent standard is achievement enough, but to a level the allowed him to win Arsenal Player Of The Month  on five consecutive occasions is little short of monumental.

If there is truth in this revised contract story then it is clear that the club see him as our most valuable youngster.

Personally I have always seen him as being easily the brightest young star at the club.  And by a distance.  That’s not to say we don’t have other great prospects, but simply that I think he is the best.  Others may disagree with me and that’s fine, but none have come near to the standards he has set this season, ever.

By giving him this improved deal what are the club saying?

Well for a start they’re saying that they are fair. Perform well and you will be rewarded and appreciated.

Also they are telling other clubs that they can’t come along and tempt him away because they will double his money.  Too late, we’ve already done it.

They are displaying to Players, agents, clubs and our own fans that our financial clout is real and being put to use.

I see no downside to giving this wonderful player a better deal,  and I hope its true.

  1. Did you guys notice that Arteta played higher up the pitch than usual? Nice to see them there too. Also, it was so evident that winning a trophy means a lot to him. He was one of the most involved players today.

PS: I love when George is pessimistic because the team always does better than he fears. Keep it up PG.

Who else could come up with this line:

Did you know Errol wrote a book title “My Wicked Wicked Ways”. An appropriate title don’t you think for Oli’s book?

    Caarmon Arsenal. Caarmon!

Yes, I did notice, SA and Arteta was really pumped up, probably because he was facing his old team. What a superb pair of penalties, as well, as once again we see an Arsenal player penalised for something that is technically an infringement of the laws, but which no-one else has been, or will be, penalised for all season

  9. yes SA, normally wenger play flamini slightly ahead of arteta, which sometimes make it a little more defensive because of lack of creativity from flamini. but today wenger played arteta where he played in his first sesaon with us. hence we were more solid at the back and mobile when going forward. i wont be surprise to see same tactics against bayern.

the yellow to flamini was the reason we conceded the goal. he didnt want to go for another tackle being the last man.

arteta was so calm taking the penalty the

It was close up until the final period, though the Arsenal may feel they should have scored more then one in that first half.
Chamberlain obviously magnificent but it was a great team performance. Giroud and Rosicky off the bench, Plodders in reserve. In spite of the Groaning this season is not over yet!

The FBs were the difference in this game for me. As an Arsenal fan I won’t complain if Gibbs gets the summer off, but it’s no contest between him and Baines.
Only blemish was Gibbs going off, a blow for Munich if he is out.

I do feel optimistic for Munich, I really do. Ox looks really hungry and now has a great opportunity to show us what’s he’s got.
As for the idiots who wrote Öxil off? We’ll they really are idiots.
Sabogo is a work in progress, he will learn the runs and lay-offs that Arsenal need to do in time, but Mr Sexy Pants knows his way around the pitch very well right now.

Let’s hope chavski and the spuds annihilate each other in a nuclear reaction of mutual but oppositely charged shittiness.

  16. BTW: Did you guys notice how Arteta, as our senior pro, got in the faces of the refs when they refused to give some pretty clear decisions in our favor? It may appear insignificant but in my opinion it was decisive in tilting some decisions in our favor Note that for the penalty call Clattenberg did not hesitate in pointing to the spot. Coincidence?
When Arteta was telling off the asst referee, the commentators on my feed were fearing he would get a yellow for getting in their faces but his defiance was in my opinion the mark of a leader.

  17. Fun and Laky, he probably did that on instructions, but he sure was pumped too. The penalties were incredibly well taken. To have the focus to do it again…damn!

Shotta, I was worried too that considering the behaviour of the referees towards us, that he might get an yellow.

To have the technical triumvate of Cazorla, Ozil and Rosicky at the same time is a dream in intself. To have them play one touch football with each other, leading to a goal is a golden dream!

  20. I’m back! Looks like I’ve missed a lot. Excellent article on the colossus that is Aaron Ramsey, George and welcome news about his well deserved improved contract. Also great news about Per and Tomas signing da ting! Come on Sagna, you know you want to. No where else is as much fun to play football as Arsenal.

Welcome to the wall baby boy N, congrats Paul and your missus.

Welcome back Frank and Lady Neena. It was a glorious day wasn’t it? Don’t get lost on the way home!

I’m not sure why some people thought the game was close? We were way better for most of the match and completely dominated the first half. We were unlucky not to have scored more – their goal keeper kept the score respectable, and they were very fortunate to get their goal as we mostly contained them quite well.

It was a really excellent team performance. Fabianski made one outstanding save. Vermaelen had a couple of dodgy moments due to a bit of rust, but I thought he played well on the whole. Sanogo is extremely raw, but when he settles into this team and starts to live up to his potential, I think he will be excellent. One day Oli G will come off the bench and actually get that hat trick he has been threatening. It was interesting that the stubborn Wenger who doesn’t do tactics, fell into a formation tweak with Arteta in a more advanced position. It worked well today. Flamini nearly scuppered everything with his rush of blood to the head moment and I agree that it was the yellow card that stopped him tackling the Everton player before we conceded. Ozil was quietly efficient and effective as usual and it’s good to see his partnership with Santi starting to pay off. I think next season with Ramsey and Walcott around him we will really start to see the best of Ozil. Oh and it was great to see Pat Rice today. He looks well and seems to be making a good recovery.

What a lovely day – sunshine, a good game and a great result!

  23. Excellent day and we all know ARSENAL have fun in the sun. We started the game well and the ball was being pinged around all the place. The scouse keeper named after the Russian coin ,rouble, was flying around keeping out ARSENAL attacks with regulatory frequency and old clatts was trying to make the game less one sided by making sure the toffees weren’t getting to chewed up, needless to say challenges by our players were being judged more harshly than those of the opposition. Continuing the theme of the game we duly went one nil up after metsut slipped his critics to slot neatly home from left to right in he far corner.
After much pressure and a multitude of corners flamini wad pushed of the ball on the half way line and Everton broke and although we had plenty of players running back to cover, the ball managed to bobble its way to luke who used his thing to force it over tge line.
So much grumbles at half time from frustrated fans who in the main were very supportive of the team but couldn’t believe we conceded from a lone attack
There was going to be no away joy however as the second period brought more ARSENAL pressure until the ox skipped past bains and although he went down in three stages the spot kick wad awarded. Clatts tried to deny us the lead after an infringement of entering the area, which you won’t see again this season, however ARTETA proved he will dispatch in any corner of the net.
The blue half of scouse land tried to muster a comeback but although more of the play was in our half in reality it just meant we could canter forward in numbers and to accelerate the process the little Mozart was brought on and of course played a tune in each of the breakaway concertos in which we scored to make the final score 4-1 and the emirates rocking in the sunshine. The early kick insured there was a full stadium at full time and the team done a end of seasonesque walk round tge pitch.
The pubs all seem to be full after the game and personally after a pie at piebury corner I got wrecked at the kings head which was rocking with many of the old lads there singing some songs from the seventies and eighties until the landlords expressed concern about the floor caving in.
So here I sit shitfaced and the world seems red and white again.

Good point A_or_B, the post match stats made interesting reading – 9 fouls to 15, 2 yellows to 1! Although Flamini may have been fortunate to get away with only a yellow.

“the second period brought more ARSENAL pressure until the ox skipped past bains and although he went down in three stages the spot kick wad awarded.”

To be fair, I he considered getting on with the game – Walcott stylee, but wisely stayed down. He was definitely tripped though. I was in the first row upper tier behind the goal and had a very good view of the incident. It was 100% a penalty and OG was very unlucky to be booked because it was 6 of one and half a dozen of the other between him and the Everton defender who were both wrestling on the edge of the penalty area before the kick was even taken.

Georgaki – I disagree – a_or_b’s shitfaced post is much more evocative! My 2 glasses of celebratory merlot since getting home cannot hold a candle to it!

  32. I had been harbouring an unwelcome and lurking suspicion that Santi couldn’t play with Ozil – that he was only at his best if he felt he was the best player in the team. Absolutely delighted to have been proved so spectacularly wrong yesterday. It was the best I have ever seen Santi play for us. What drive, what energy – and as Hunter says, Ox was awesome.

I thought also that yesterday saw the best of Arteta and Sagna. Fantastic moments but also worrying signs that time will have his fancy. One of the hardest calls for a manager in any profession must be when he realises he has to replace a loyal servant. I suspect Sagna is making that easy for AW, and I just hope that Arteta is treated with the utmost dignity and respect by the club.

  33. arteta was on the edge yesterday, maybe something to do with everton..hehe…he was kicking them, urging the ref to punish them when they kicked him. defensive duties he was excellent, when he had to play it forward quick he did tend to miss the timing and return it to verm and per which showed his age a bit but its ok, he showed great cool with the penalties too and hopefully cast that voodoo from a year ago. rosicky and ozil who know where to pass and what to do before receiving the ball. cazorla was cesc on speed last night..ehhh noon. vision passing tempo. top marks in all three. for the first goal he gives it on a plate to ozil and for the last one…my god..that hook steal kick ..hooosh…tk…and off towards goal…rocisky tuned in immediately ..ozil with his snakeyes knew where giroud was..tak tak tak tak goal.arsenal. wenger. thank you. bacary loves the club and his time here and his teammates the stadium the fans the city. pay the man his fucking money. if anyone has earned it or deserves it its him. up and down the right flank constantly 90 mins. tackles, one twos, always involved, crossing. the team subconsiously always attacks from right..why? because of bac’s reliability.
