Are Arsenal In False Position ?

Today a guest post by @Swales1968

Arsenal, have not played anybody yet?

This is a term Arsenal fans have been forced to listen to from our hypocritical media over the past weeks. So let’s look at a few things

Arsenal, have played four teams in the top ten places winning two, drawing one and  losing one. Two have been home (2 wins) and two have been away (draw and a loss). This does look like Arsenal have played nobody yet but let’s look at other top ten teams-

Southampton, have played three top ten teams winning two drawing one; they have yet to play a top ten team at home.

Manchester City, have played four games against top ten teams winning three losing one. The three wins have all been at home

Liverpool,  have played five top ten teams winning two, drawing one and losing two. The two games away they drew one and lost one.

Chelsea, have played six games against top ten teams, two at home winning one and drawing one. Four have been away drawing two and losing two.

Manchester United, have played six games against top ten teams, four at home winning one, drawing two and losing one. They have lost both away games to top ten teams

Everton, have played five games against top ten teams, winning two, drawing two and losing one. Four of these games have been at home.

Tottenham, have played four games against top ten teams, drawing two and losing two.

Newcastle, have played five games against top ten teams, winning two drawing one and losing two.

West Brom, have played six games against top ten teams, winning one, drawing three and losing two. Only two have been at home.

When we look at the number of top ten teams, the other nine clubs within the top ten have played can similar questions can be asked of them. We can ask how will Manchester City cope away at the other eight clubs from the top ten they have to play. We can ask will Spurs win against any of the other top ten clubs this season.  Manchester United how will they do away from Old Trafford etc

Arsenal and Spurs have played seven games against the bottom half of the table clubs but where is the criticism of the team from White Hart Lane from our media, why again have Arsenal been singled out by Mr Hanson, Mr Shearer and the rest of the media punditry circle for not playing anybody yet.

The media, the hypocritical media are again judging Arsenal by one set of rules and conveniently ignoring these rules when it comes to most other clubs. Their point is a relevant one to a point but not to the point they are making it out to be. Arsenal like all other clubs has to play everybody home and away during the season, it is not Arsenals fault as to how the season fixture wise pans out. Again all I ask is for the media to have balance in its questioning of clubs and how they are doing at this moment in time.

Another quick point on who has played top ten clubs most, four teams have played the top ten clubs seven times these four teams occupy positions Eighteen, Nineteen, Twenty and Eleven. The team in eleventh would be lower down the league if the ref had done his job properly against one of the top ten teams!!!!

  1. to be honest I cant think of any of the present day regular hacks that come anywhere near PB. He is an old time sports journo and although your never going to agree with all he says, or writes, he usually has well researched and well reasoned pieces.
If he occasionally rushes out a bit of crap ill forgive him just so he goes on showing up the other showers of shit that litter our sports news.
As far as the Portuguese bus driver is concerned I think he is at the top of the pullis league, he will always do well in cups and as napoleon says he a lucky general however his limitations mean he has to play league games like Wimbledon playing Leeds no matter what the quality of players at his disposal. He will never be able to develop or progress football, unfortunately our Jurassic scribes have never been able to recognise this it is this deception that makes him special

  2. I don’t think England has the capacity to admit they’re shit. I think they’ll improve once they can look at themselves and admit they need to let go of their past glories.

    bingo!

just …what past glories? : ..aha ka ka ha ha..

would you say that this inability to admit they are shit is linked with a nonsensical ethnic pride which instead of manifesting in serious occasions, manifests itself on a fucking sport ? like what little jack said the other time ” we are english we tackle hard its and die on the pitch ” bollocks … ??

  4. Fins: “Thoughts on Spain and Holland: Holland can’t compete as others have more or less adopted their methods and they have a relatively tiny population. My guess or instinct is that Spain will do well with their next team if they don’t mess up the phasing from one team to the next. They don’t need to worry about or invest in as many facilities with their climate, scary talent on the horizon, I only see them doing well in the future unless the big two go bankrupt.”

Holland is facing a huge drop in quality once Robben, Van der Vaart, Van Persie and Sneijder retire. They have Krul, Strootman, Bruma, Narsingh, Lens and other promising youngsters, but nothing like the current crop. You add to that the ability the petty Dutch have for dooming an entire generation, and their hopes seem bleak. They’ll need a super star to come out of nowhere because they are not producing anything exceptional at the moment.

With regard to Spain, just look at how they divide the television revenue. That league is geared for Real Madrid and Barcelona to shine above everyone else. They really don’t care what happens to other teams. That doesn’t bode well for the future of Spanish football. If Barcelona and Madrid stop producing talent, they are screwed. Are Thiago, Mata, Canales, Bartra, Martinez and De Gea really better than Wilshere, Walcott, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Barkley , etc.?

What explains holland, with all their natural talent reverting to a moe type bunch of thugs in the 2010 World Cup?
For countries like Greece or Denmark, I suppose it is understandable for them to go on an all or nothing charge at the finals in the euros.

Conor Henderson fucked up bothhis legs, one after the other. Then he fell behind in the pecking order in midfield.
I really hope he finds a decent career for himself.

  15. I stumbled upon a video of the MOT2 pundits analyzing Arsenal v Liverpool. One of the plundits, an ex-player (Irish gap toothed guy) was talking about the defensive stability which Flamini brought into the team even though he wasn’t fit to play that game. Then one wonders where the doomers get these wild ideas about Arsenal.

I will have another look at Henderson
Hugh McIlvaney – is still the master

Brian Glanville though ? 80 odd years old – still can turn out a decent match report – always got up the nose of the FA/FIFA/UEFA
And an Arsenal man since the 40s

  21. Seems off topic but i needed to seek reasonable opinions… there is a BBC article tipping Ronaldo to win the Ballon D’of especially cos of his hat-trick at the play offs… so why did hos country not qualify first place initially…but even then i digress… Did Ribery not also help France to qualify even against greater odds that Portugal who cam into their tie with a 1 -0 lead already?

Then for Club, what did Real madrid archieve compared to Munich?

This would be like TH14 losing out to Zidane on sentiments even then, arsenal did not even achieve as much as Bayern M. did this past season!

  22. I thought the hysterical reaction to the slightly fortunate Portugese win against Sweden was unsatisfactory TS

Other than the question as to why Portugal required a play off and a couple of breakaway goals in the second leg ……..

You have to ponder why an award, of any type, could go to systematic cheating bottom lip protruding money grabbing greasy haired spotty little cunt

WBA just the latest side to be on the wrong end of abysmal refereeing; the solution is unlikely to rest with ‘better’ referees, however.

@JackWilshere: @MirrorFootball good lie today on how I am worried about my fitness before the World Cup! Please let me know when actually said that?

A few of us on twitter pulled @mirrorfootball up on the story and they told us that jacks tweet had been deleted and we should drop it. A quick look on JW’s time line showed the tweet to still be there lol a few more comments have been made to the Mirror twitter account but funnerly enough they have gone quiet!!!
