Bradesque7’s Weekly Round Up

Queen and Pat

The Queen on possibly the proudest day of her life.

The regular weekly look at the Arsenal news, from Bradesque7

Hello and welcome to this week’s round up.

First up this week is the Andre Santos’ From the Basement video.  Andre wasn’t making sweet indie music, he was more likely under his parents’ house playing with his new phone.  For those who opt to ignore the human side of players, Santos will never be anything more than a dodgy full-back who nabbed a couple of important goals.  Almost like the second coming of Eboue.  To the rest of us, Andre was like some kind of happy man-baby, frolicking and meandering with an infectious, if not delirious, smile on his face.  Almost like the second coming of Eboue.  I like him and I like the gesture.

The Queen met Pat Rice this week.  For his remarkable contribution to the club, and to football in general, the Arsenal legend received an MBE in what may have been the proudest moment of her life.

Then came Lukas Podolski and his sightseeing tour of London, which he shared on Twitter.   The fans and the player really seem to have taken to each other.  This is infinitely better than the last time we were given a detailed description of a player’s movements around London.  Andre could have taken that tour in around forty minutes.  Podolski was ‘Learning London’, people  were happy and having fun about something Arsenal, what could possibly go right?

Everything was ticking over, having beaten Sunderland, and we were seemingly making progress until Blackburn came to visit and the sky fell in.  Arsenal dominated the game but ultimately lacked the guile to win it.  Then, of course, Blackburn scored with their one real chance. 1-0 and we’re out of the FA cup to minnows.   Bloody typical Arsenal!  Everything’s been said in the post-mortem and much of it has been crazy.  We dust ourselves off and we move on.

We move on to a battle of epic proportions.

It’s London and Munich sending their finest men to go head-to-head in 180 + minutes of intense combat.  It’s bigger than big.  It’s the Champions’ League and it’s tonight.  Wilshere and Schweinsteiger will lock horns tonight!  TONIGHT!!

As always the pre-game press conference comes first and this one was more like a dressing down from a headmaster.  First came the video and then the full transcript in which Arsene Wenger took the handbrake off.  He accused the journalists of what is clearly true but would never be confirmed. He believes that false stories were circulated with the intention to manipulate and cause damage. They all do it, it’s what they’re paid to do.  It’s probably all that some of them can do.

There’s bound to be a great atmosphere in the stadium, similar to that of Milan last season when something magical happened.   It was a thing of beauty and great power.  The crowd at The Grove always seem to take these Champions’ League games very seriously and very rarely fail to perform on the biggest stage.

That’s it for this week, thank you for reading.

Come on The Arsenal!

  13. We are keeping the ball well but our passing in the final 3rd is not good enough to open them up as yet. I think we need a target man. Walcott cannot play with his back to the defence and I find that his abilities are being negated against a very good defensive team. Get him on the wings and give the players a huge target and someone who can bring the rest of the team into play. OG that is.

Cazorla, has not been at his best, making some surprising decisions.

Its a tough task but we will get back into it.

  14. In most games that Walcott has done damage it has been from the wings. That may not be where he ends up but that is where he helps the team best right now.

  18. We lost a bit of steam, but overall the team completely outplayed bayern in the 2nd

  19. Well, a bit unlucky but another excellent display in the 2nd. The score doesn’t reflect the game. Bayern are very composed. Arsenal, basically, look damn good. Bayern got 2 pretty lucky goals.

  20. I’m not unhappy, I know we lost but that second half display actually cheered me up. This team really has some guts about it.

  21. Damn it!

Well, we will have to beat them at home.

  22. Cazorla a bit anonymous, even so we played some pretty good attacking football , kept breaking them down, looked in it throughout.

  24. Cazorla was not good tonight, his passing was wayward.. That is why I was thinking to take him off and give Diaby a go.

  25. Me too, ZP. It is a new team, if they stick together and keep the faith, they will come good. As you say, in the 2nd half we dominated the game, we just did not get the goals to match the performance.

  26. Kroos’ goal was quality, but the other two were soft. I thought taking off Podolski was the wrong substitution. It should have been Giroud for Ramsey. Theo, Poldi and Giroud have been our best attacking three all season.

Other than having to put up with assholes talking about Arsenal in crisis and Arsene getting sacked, I think we’ll be alright.

  27. Ok so Theo up front, which would prompt to think that Arsenal is going for fast paced game tonight. Thats the initial thought, but then Ramsey is on the right, so its more likely that the plan is about keeping it tight in midfield and break quickly, thus Theo’s pace required. Based on this inetrpretation, the midfield paid more attention to keeping it tight position wise and as a result the 50-50s in midfield were all won by bayern players. Still though both the goals of first half came from mistakes/errors. The cross from the right is a wrong cross that falls on the D and kroos connects first time. Perhaps ramsey could have cleared but cant really fault him. The second goal again from errors in marking, someone should have followed van buyten’s move at first post. Confidence drops, nerves and thankfully it wasnt 3 at ht.

Second half, just like they got a lucky goal, same for us. Now Arsenal is growing and had Giroud;s shot ( instinctively saved by neuer) gone a little to the left or right the german keeper would have stood there like a statue. They got a few lucky breaks with our errors we only got one. I thought that konscielny, arteta, wilshere and ramsey were very good tonight, santi and poldi with a bit of a handbreak. vermaelen fought intelligently ever since he had a yellow from first half and the managers subs were correct. giroud nearly scored in his first touch from aplay set up from rosicky and theo who had just moved on the right. Important to note that all four goals tonight were created by the other teams errors. in organised games like that usually tahts what happens.

a 0-2 in germany is a strecth but i like the addidas add and its message, impossible is nothing. I hope the fans and media leave the team ( players and manager) alone to work and stop the negative nonsense. Yes our keeper needs to learn how to block shots/headers away from his box and not square them to the opposition, but he is only 21 or 22. wilshere is a fantastic talent and hopefully the cannibals show the patience required.

  28. I don’t think deploying Theo through the middle was the shrewdest move Wenger could have made. Bayern were never going to park the bus and it would have been better if Theo kept Ribery busy than to give them the option of having him run at Sagna. This being said, I can totally see why Ramsey was given the start. The boy was everywhere.

  29. I agree with you about OG, Poldi and Theo in and I would like us to start with them Germany. It is our best front 3.

  30. That wasn’t a wrong cross, Hunter. Bayern have been playing that deep cut back to the D for ever. It’s the way their midfield moves forward. Germany uses this too.

  31. maybe so gains, i feel the players misunderstood the plan of what the midfield was supposed to do. they were eager to play quick and catch bayern on a break while the germans were on an organised defence, when in reality such a plan requires to keep tight in midfiled so as to suck them in our own half and with tight marking steal and THEN break quickly with one pass to theo. our midfield was trying to play it quick as soon as arteta received first pass from per….. i dont think that was what wenger really meant…he put ramsey there so that the defensive shape of midfield has an extra passer instead of an extra winger…i think wenger was hoping for his players to realise the trap and allow bayern in our half just like in the first half of the barcelona – arsenal ( with that busakka cunt) ..of course im no expert and all my comments are based on my personal interpretations of the selection and formation

  33. you reckon its a planned play? crossing to the d …for a shot..? maybe so i just find it a bit strange cause the opposing defensive midfielder makes such a plan redundant, (unless of course the dmf is sleeping). it asks a lot from kroos to score that, but yeah you could be right

  34. Never dat, Goonerkam. I still realise that this is a fairly new team. I don’t listen to the pundits like Warren Barton (I did not know he was an Arsenal “supporter”), they call themselves experts but all of their comments lack context. This team is on the up!

  43. Again fanx for this place jorge and all the posters and commenters on here..I’m just lovin this team, more and more it may make no sense to those on the outside and our so called “supporters” but there’s such a beautiful feelin I get from watching this team no matter what the circumstances that I wish I could share it but its so difficult to quantify, when u actually watch our play, so many moments of class poise u name it but I guess for somethings words are a waste, its so funny but I’m falling deeper and deeper in love with this team and at some moment it’ll all fall together and the results will reflect that feeling and our play but I will have already be and have being enjoying myself so much it doesn’t matter what others say lol

  44. ha kitchen, i get the same feeling too, the boys need a big win and the fans support to settle psychologically and then release and express their talent and training on the pitch at games. arsene can not hold them by the hand once theyre on the pitch. sadly though our fans dont get it and the sharks in media will go for the kill whenever they smell a bit of blood…

  45. I think the biggest problem was the 2nd goal, it winded the team for a minute. you could see the frustration, it seems like there was a lot of blame going on. The team was doing ok at the start of the match. We have to be careful because you cannot go gung ho all the time.
