Even VAR couldn’t save Newcastle This Time.

Arsenal spanked Newcastle in the first half with high energy pressing and total domination with the ball. Then showed the other side to their game by strolling through the second half while still doubling the total goals.

  1. So because of the F.A. cup the chelsusa game has already been hooked and if we go through against Porto will be moved between wolves away and the spuds away.

That might look like a nightmare week but if wolves beat Coventry that game will also get hooked and placed between manure away and the toffees at home which is the last game of the season.

Obviously other teams are affected because of Liverpool and cities progression in the cup as well.

It is getting ridiculous that teams that are not in the F.A. cup are still have their calendar wrecked.

It seems only sensible that the later rounds of the cup should be played midweek so only teams still in the competition have to worry about fixture pile ups.

  2. Arsenal are reported to have made a bid for Wolves academy defender Brayden Clarke, who will turn 17 in the summer, he is a welsh central defender and has already informed wolves he will not accept their offer of a scholarship and will leave them this summer. Wolves are entitled to a training compensation fee, they can agree a fee with whatever club Clarke signs for or they can take it to an independent tribunal

  5. The academy is definitely heading the way of getting players in from elsewhere to fill the U21s rather than having players come through the ranks.

With Benjamin, Brown, Ryan and Small not offered contracts recently it seems fewer players from each intake will make it through and ARSENAL will just pick up more players from elsewhere.

  18. seeing as I posted about possible academy signings earlier, tonight Arsenal used 5 subs, and the 3 outfield players who did not get on were the 3 academy players we had on the bench, Smith-Rowe, Nelson and Nketiah, really can’t see any of them being with us next season, all been frozen out of game time

dominated the game, a bit sloppy the second half, Arsenal now sit 2pts off top, with the most goals scored and the fewest goals conceded.

  20. its always ironic that you feel disappointed only scoring one in the second half but when six nil up it’s a small criticism not scoring twelve.

Ed, I get your point about the subs, players returning from injury need minutes but neither of the them looked good and if promoted to the first eleven looks like it would make us worse.

if this is true then we have become a very petty club

  22. Todays game is so important because of where it falls in the fixture list and also the fact it can push us top.

Obviously going top is always important but another win before the break and the trip to city is necessary.

With the postponement of the chelsusa game city now becomes the start of the run in, the last ten games, and something we have not done well in these past two seasons.

After our brilliant recent domestic displays and goal haul many will be expecting five, six or seven today. However I think today’s game may become a bit more attritional. Brentford are good at keeping matches stale against the top sides and so it looks like it will be more difficult to really control the game at both ends of the pitch. When I say really control I mean the having the ball for a reason and not just possession for possessions sake as we have seen in the past.

With Aaron in today, there will be slight changes as defenders like the same keeper every week so they don’t have to think about the nuances of each different player and can instinctive react. Aaron will need to play high to deal with Brentford’s long passes which Raya is normally more adapted to.

There is also a possibility we could be without one or both of our flying wingers which again would change our style.

Everything considered I think we will take the three points but at a more modest 2-1. This will be enough to set us up for the home straight after the interlull.

  28. Maybe today was an example of why we signed Raya, Rice and Havertz last summer, as good as Ramsdale is he does have needless mistakes in him, some from overplaying when a hoof would be better, and then he hoofs away the ball when good passing options open, Raya a bit calmer with the ball at feet, Rice is a rolls royce of a player and Havertz is showing of late that he is a good player

  30. Ed, I agree with a lot of what you say but ironically it was one of Declan’s poorer games in an ARSENAL shirt. He is obviously allowed that as he has been an absolute monster this season.

Kai “Captain Havoc” Havertz is proving to be an nightmare for the opposition after everyone else’s fans thought he was going to be a nightmare for us.

Raya, is a difficult one, plays high which gives us extra players higher up the pitch but has been caught out more than once this season and is up near the top of mistakes leading to goals. He is great in the air and his distribution and ball work is good.

Ironically Aaron’s distribution from his hands was excellent yesterday and had Martinelli been playing he probably would of had a couple of assists. He is also a better shot stopper than Raya but obviously the focus will be on the cock up and I think that’s the last time we will see him in an ARSENAL shirt baring injury.

He was definitely at fault for the goal however in the immediate backdrop to the goal we made several mistakes. We had the chance to play forward through the lines with an easy pass but decided to put ourselves under pressure by passing backwards and finally the ball back to Aaron was very slow. I’m not trying to make excuses for him as it was four seconds between him receiving the ball and Wisa scoring but in analysing the goal we have to look at the whole move.

It was sympathetic of alot of our play as after another electric start decision making and negative play seemed to go back to the pre Xmas problems.

The substitutions in the second half seemed to help Brentford rather than us especially the removal of Jorginio who was our best passer of the ball on the day.

Im glad Ben was recognised as Opta and ARSENAL MOTM as his crossing was excellent on a day when a lot was poor.

At the end of the day, at this time in the season, the result is the most important thing and to get the result was excellent.

  31. Ramsdale is a better shot stopper than Raya, but is not as good with the ball at feet, a hybrid of the two would be perfect

as for the goal, I thought Ramsdale was very unlucky, the ball could have gone anywhere, but it crept in at the post, but the goal all stemmed from us passing backwards three or four times from the halfway line all the way to the keeper, if any one of the outfield players who passed backwards had taken some responsibility and played forward the whole situation never arises, every one of them, just like Ramsdale had an easy sideways or forwards pass but failed to take that option

  32. after today’s results Arsenal need a maximum of 23pts from the 30pts available to gurantee a top 4 finish and cl place for next season

10 wins and only liverpool could pip us for the title on goal difference, we currently have a better goal difference to them by 7 goals. We have five home games and five away games to play

    home games remaining

Luton Town, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Everton

    away games remaining

Man City, Brighton, Wolves, Spurs Man Utd

  33. Ed, As I pointed out earlier in the season that last five away games make up one of the worst run ins you could hope for. Looking at pools and cities they certainly have easier run ins.

Of course we are a very good team but at the moment it looks a little too much.
