Purple Patch or Proper Team?

In this #UncensoredArsenal review of Burnly vs Arsenal Shotta and Blackburn George are eating loads of humble pie from start to finish. Contrary to their pre winter-break pessimism that the team was way off the standards of last season, the Gooners have gone on a goalscoring spree in the last 4 games together with an impervious defense that has rarely allowed more than 1 shot on target by the opposition. The first XI continue to put up sensational performances particularly Martin Odegaard who George has dubbed the “new Cesc Fabregas.”

  1. not listened to the pod yet but MO is not in the same league as Fab.

He does have superb technique but there are so many other aspects of his game which just doesn’t match up with the greats of the game.

I think we were saying in the winter break we were aiming for third but if we finished badly we might drop lower.

That is still the case to a certain extent, maybe we’re a bit more nailed on for third but still that’s where most experts (not pundits) would put us.

Our run in is still the hardest out of the three teams and our history over the last ten games is the worst.

If we come second this season then it would be a major achievement, certainly better than last season.

Top spot would be unbelievable and we certainly are not out of it but I think we should be realistic and not get carried away just yet.

  2. interesting point you made @Blackburn George about the chances we are giving up.

When I was watching the Liverpool game it felt like we were hanging on at times during the game or there was a bit of a desperation in our defending but when I checked the stats at the end of the game, Liverpool hardly had a sniff. 1 shot on target out of 7 shots all game.

Declans stats are up there with the best of them.

    think we are missing Timber

  3. Gee, stats are just a guide and rarely in football do they show the complete picture.

I would say in most cases trust your eyes but by the same token don’t let your judgement get swayed by the commentary on after-game pundits who have their own agenda.

  6. half time 0-0

frantic stuff, little to nothing created, at corners porto players just throw themselves to the ground looking for a freekick

  8. you cannot score goals from open play if you don’t want to play the ball forwards.

The tactic of keeping possession and safe football and just relying on set pieces is always dangerous and backfired.

Three good headed chances and Trossards difficult volley, was all we created and they were all from set pieces, meant it was a poor game to watch.

CL away is always difficult but when you’re favourites and you don’t want to give it a go you can’t moan when you get punished

  9. So tonights game will be totally different from midweek in respect of our attitude.

I would imagine we would be positive and go for the game on the floor, in the air, in open play and on set pieces.

Newcastle will play with a low block and fast counter. They are also, like us, good at set pieces.

We have struggled to unlock a strong defence this season without first getting a set piece goal.

we will need width tonight and bravery to take on direct opponents in the final third.

Out passes and decisions to the forwards need to improve without a doubt but I fully expect the three points at the end of the game COYG.

  15. unbelievably the decision making before the final ball still not there but when you play that well it doesn’t matter.

That was an excellent all round performance but although we have scored goals for fun I still believe Liverpool, Palace, West Ham, Burnley and now Newcastle all got away lightly.

If we really hit our game some team will get properly spanked, maybe even a PL record.
