Hallow folks,
Arsenal suffered a 3rd defeat in a row at Southampton severely damaging any hopes of a Top-4 finish. Blackburn George, @arseblagger, and Byso, @hawt_red, join with Shotta, @shotta_gooner, to discuss the implications of this defeat. In our opinion despite the failure of Arteta to have the team scoring goals the club will be satisfied with a Top-6 finish, the fans wont be though.
Pedantic George.
7 games remaining this season:
Chelsea (A)
United (H)
West Ham (A)
Leeds (H)
Spurs (A)
Newcastle (A)

21pts at stake, I believe we took just 11pts from those fixtures last season, will we even take that many this time around

A couple of weeks ago, I suggested that Arteta’s luck would run out and it has.
The fact that we are where we are, is, I believe a mirage that masks the deficiencies of the team and the management.
A team without adequate management, no matter how good the sum of its parts, will still be no better than the management itself is.
The team is intended to reflect Arteta’s process and he will stick by the players he has brought in, at the expense of players already in the club who can do a better job, come what may.
Ironically, having failed miserably against 3 teams we should be beating, but who steadfastly defended us out, we may do much better against the better teams who will not wish to sit back and let us aimlessly bang our heads against the wall in the knowledge that we do not have the skill or ingenuity to break through.
The better teams will attack us leaving gaps for us to counterattack through and then the luck may return.
By the way, there is no point in blaming Forster for our defeat. Each team has 11 players, one of which is a goalie, whose job is to save goals. He was simply doing his job and we were not good enough to beat him.
How many times this season has Ramsdale, our goalie, done the same and saved games for us?

If you look at our six shots on target most were comfortable saves from the edge or outside the box, even the one from Saka was going back towards the keeper as he was coming across.
I do think George and Shotta are trying not to be critical rather than realistic when they say sometimes it happened under Arsene.
The major difference there was those games came from a team who had scored regularly and the goal had been peppered not from a team who have struggled to score all season.
Byso had it right when she said Southampton gave up possession and not us impossing ourselves on the game.
In games like this the first goal is always massively important and we no under Mikel we can’t come from behind so when Ben looked shakey early on it was always a worry.
Jigsol is absolutely correct Mikel is a park the bus coach and so we may well do better against teams that attack us than those who are disciplined defensively.
Unfortunately Chelski are good in all departments and will have a bench full of internationals not youth players and cheered on by a crowd who hate us.

well ian parking the bus don’t really suit us either as we don’t break at speed, we have to score first to get anything from games, its an awful system

really have to laugh at the news that broke today, after all the guff about Arteta having imposed his culture at Arsenal, that indeed it was him spending so much time on this that has see our progression up the table be so slow, we now are told that Arsenal FC are hiring a PR company to do the big job of establishing an Arsenal Culture from top to bottom at the club
so all this Arteta imposing a culture on the club/team has been nothing but stupid fucking soundbites. A way to placate the stupid cunts in the fan base and blog world.
As I tweeted to someone the other day, this Arteta Culture might be some kind of a bacterial Culture

I feel like I have regressed after reading some of the comments in the article.
The protection that some fans give arteta is sickening, even willing to absolutely throw Arsene Wenger under the bus to make arteta look better than he is and attach all current blame to AW.
That site is full of the Arsenal fans I cannot stand (bordering on hate, tho don’t want to expend that type of energy on simpletons) as they will bend reality and common sense to make their unrealistic narrative appear true.
My interest and engagement with Arsenal is getting less by the day due to the high number of these morons getting their daily thoughts from even bigger morons.
Aftv, arseblog, just arsenal have as much to do with Arsenal regression than any of the managers, coaching staff or players.

The fall off in Arsene’s last two seasons and especially the last was definitely more to do with our so called fans than manager, playing staff or any other factor.
The constant protests, booing players and even booing players names as they were read out in the stadium, the tirade of abuse from the fans behind Arsene made a toxic atmosphere I felt uncomfortable attending games. I have seen fans actually fighting each other for several seasons.
How could this not have affected the players. If we had a decent support we would definitely got that extra point in the second to last of Arsene’s season. The last one was a right off because of the announcement of Arsene leaving and the toxicity around the stadium.
I have always been proud of the ARSENAL away fans loyalty since my first away game in the 70’s but those last few seasons their were some disscusting followers just as their was season ticket holders at home.
I am convinced that if Arsene was supported by all sides, above and below, his record of qualifying for the CL every season would have remain tact and who knows we may have even seen another Arsene rebuilt side attack the PL.
Arsene was the Willy Wonka of football, slightly eccentric but who could create wonderful, smooth, delicious chocolate performances the type we haven’t and may never see again.

gee the article actually says people have it the wrong way round, we have regressed under Arteta, it points out apart from his last season wenger was doing fine, winning cups, scoring lots of goals, and had a great home record.

In normal circumstances neither would get in the side but it will be interesting when the line up is announced.
Two strikers both out of contract does Mikel go for the young fit fast striker who could give ARSENAL ten more years or the old goaless striker who struggles through 90 minutes normally let alone after a week of Covid.
Again to give ourselves any chance tonight we must score first which is difficult to see but in small parts of the game we have to throw the kitchen sink at them COYG.

this game could be season defining, win and top 4 is well within our grasp, even a draw leaves top 4 in our own hands, but lose and its 4 losses in a row, that is relegation form, in fact if i’m not mistaken none of the relegation candidates are on a four game losing run presently. A loss could see a real crisis hit, the team would surely be low on confidence. A win and everything looks much better.

I’m not sure there is anything that more says a manager is under real pressure than picking guys for a big game that he wouldn’t normally give a game to, Holding, Elneny and Nketiah.
also has Sambi started any of our games against the big teams

How was Nketiah not a starter this season ahead of the ageing even less fit Laca and an Auba who had, obviously, downed tools?
This is where so many football fans who follow the Arsenal genuinely and understandably wonder about the ability of the people now running the club to spot footballing talent. The emperor and Ramsey are encouraging but that’s two signings out of many at a cost of about half a billion! Sack of the scouts who signed Martinelli etc hire a Agency to help hire new scouts rinse and repeat with the ‘culture’, rinse and repeat till the till runs dry (the Arsenal do not have the wealth of Utd for some work shy yanks to plunder).
I hope the players can hold on so Arteta can bask in the praise just like his real role model Mourinho

Nketiah x2, Smith-Rowe and Saka(pen) with our goals, and the win is no more than we deserved.
Now level on points with spurs, but 8 goals worse off, but tonights win should give us the boost to go all out for top 4. Man Utd up next Saturday afternoon.
Nketiah showed how useful a spritely CF can be to us, Elneny showed he is still a better fit for us than Sambi.

The lack of minutes for players we’ve been calling for Nketiah and Elneny has been mind boggling for many minds, especially when we objectively consider the decent to good football these two footballers have played in recent seasons (better then others who’ve had more minutes & often been poor), but as they say: better late then never.
This is not a moan but an observation that starting Albert over Elneny in a premier league run in is something few coaches would do. Understandably!

< a green inexperienced Albert over a proven reliable midfielder in his prime, Albert will probably go on to the the better footballer but not till he is…about he same age Elneny is now (neither are Phenoms).

Excellent result for them, some inexperienced and underused players, up against a very cynical team who also happened to be European champions.
Agree on the lack of minutes of Eddie and Elneny , nice to see Nuno claim a big scalp as well . Xhaka , what a player!

Nketiah with a brace Away against the team that let him go as a youth player. Incredible.
Saka scoring his first penalty in senior football with what I think was his first penalty for Arsenal
no better place to do it then at Chelsea,
imo especially after the Euro final.
In a memorable important victory away against a team that have been bigger rivals then spurs in recent decades, who Arsenal have beaten twice in cup finals since 2017, who are the reigning European champions.
Won’t happen but it would be nice if the quality Xhaka showed to set up the attack for the second goal (great team goal) and his role in the penalty melee would silence the idiots. Was good to see the captain involved.
