Tsunami Of Panic.

Hello all,

In this podcast we try to understand the tsunami of panic that has set in because of 2 injuries to injury prone players. It’s Brighton ffs, we should just get out and spank them. After all, “we are The Arsenal”

  1. Great podcast, Shotta shouting “you kill me George” a real highlight, and let’s get this straight from the start Shotta’s shirt was excellent.
I think most of the panic is not necessarily about this game alone but the sudden realization were not absolutely fantastic and no-one could take top four away from us. Like I said all this was before the run in even started.
Brighton won’t necessarily be a pushover, they are a very good side and potter is a very good manager it’s just they just haven’t got a goalscorer. I would imagine they will again play well but we will take more of our chances and that will be the difference.
The horror show would be Wellbeck to come back and haunt us with a winner.
I have no idea what team or formation Mikel will pick as I don’t think much beyond his first team he knows.
George I think you were being very kind to Mikel saying we can’t blame him for the result. I don’t think he reacted early enough to our bad start and then he only made one sub at a time.
Partey was injured long before he came off and as it was widely recognised he was awful anyway.
After taking Tavares off after 5 minutes against Liverpool it was a misjudgement to trust him again so soon when he clearly wasn’t ready.
Eddie was given longer but should of been on earlier and Martinelli is better on the left than the right.
If we give Mikel the credit when we win he has to accept at least some of the blame when we lose.

  2. Well tbf Ian, you make 4 or 5 really good points that I can’t dispute. So, yeah, he did fuck up, on reflection. Grrr, I fucking hate being wrong.

  3. I do think we will win today and with chelski, spuds and manure all away it could be a very good weekend for us COYG.

  4. A few days on I can see the palace game in better focus. A very poor first half but much better in the second. We could have had a penalty on 55 and smith-Rowe and odergaard missed decent chances. All before palaces soft penalty- the kind we don’t get.
Overall we should have done better but there was some encouragement to take into today’s game.
Not convinced by Spuds win over a poor Newcastle team who we poor again v Wolves last night

  5. Whatever happened to the grand national on semi final day, what a great day and great tradition that was. Beat Brighton today and they can’t finish above us and we will guaranteed at least 12th.
I see the Mikel’s comments about Tavares suggesting he will play him for the rest of the season, let’s hope he can not only regain his confidence but also progress in getting the basics right defensively and actually look when he passes and crosses the ball going forward.

  7. Dang poor, certainly not top four trophy, CL stuff, but the chalked off goal might be something to build on for the second half? Either that or Arty to get the hairdryer out!
Or send Heady to down to the dressing room to sort them out!

  8. Playing very poorly as have no control in midfield at all. Wouldn’t take much to turn it round but need a change of personel and tactics I think.

  9. Really can’t see what took var so long it was miles offside I think that they were forgetting onside is two defenders between the striker and the goal.
Xhaka needs to go back in midfield and Eddie needs to come on.

  10. Xhaka at left back it an utter disgrace. Surely Holding would be better? Or Tavares? The only decent midfielder we’ve got, and hes off on another job, thats bs. Even Lokonga would be better at left back? Or Mills the twat.

  13. Everyone was right to panic! Fuck me that was poor.
Mikel has made the same mistake with Laca that he did with Auba and Pepe, he gave them to long when they were out of form and he’s doing it again.
Eddie the best player on the park today and things only started to happen once Xhaka went back into midfield and Eddie came on.
The only problem was leaving Laca on when Martinelli, Eddie and Saka are our best attack but again this young manager takes an age to see things.
If the run in equal we would still stand a good chance but at the moment every game looks hard.
Southampton we normally struggle against at their place and getting the arses slapped by chelski won’t help us.
Manure will not play as shit against us as they have been and then we play chelski, West Ham before we go to the spuds.
After that hard run of games we have just a couple of days off before playing resurgent Leeds, Newcastle and Everton who could all be safe by the time they play us.
Everyone of those games (maybe with the exception of chelski) are winnable games but we need to massively improve and I just can’t see Mikel facilitating that.
If Eddie goes for nothing at the end of the season it will be another massive waste and the player they bring in will not be saving wages.

  15. Very poor, and unfathomable at times, the manager messed up today, not enough match ready players and striker problems, but even with all that, they had to search long and hard to do us on that VAR . A record VAR wait? Prob had to call Riley and get him on that one
Partey and Tierney getting injured is entirely predictable, Arteta should have had a contingency plan, it’s clear Sambi and Nuno were not ready , nor were many others this week

  16. VAR didn’t do us they just took an untamable amount of time to get the right decision. On the first normal replay before it even went to VAR you could see it was a clear offside. Martinelli was nearer to the goaline than the keeper so all the checking for where the other defender was, is irrelevant.
On the plus side Wolves have to play chelski, city and Liverpool so a minimal 7th place and Europe looks guaranteed.

  17. Thought the podcast was great it did make me smile, but I’m sure you were thinking like me that the Palace game was a blip and that tactical changes would have to be made following the injuries particularly the absence of ‘world class’ Partey!
It is hard to find a ready smile this morning as we seem to be imploding. Once again you feel that Arteta is trying to be too clever and his post match explanation of the positioning of Xhaka bore this out. Surely he must realise that a midfield without Xhaka regardless of injuries is going to get overrun.
I said at the beginning of the season that 6th was an aspirational target and still stand by that. I have to let go of the Spurs scenario as for the last two seasons they have been tipped for the top and although remained Spursy they were nearer their end goals than we were.
However, Am I now concerned about tactical ineptitude?
The answer would be yes and the tsunami is ever present.

Anything that takes 4-5 minutes to analyse is not clear and obvious

  19. Its so sad looking at how far the club has fallen, we had year after year of teams that had incredible understanding and intuition made manifest in skill, that was a joy to look at.I love our club but I dont often like it too much. sitting there thinking of golden times is pretty grim fodder.
It seems to be a club that has been moulded in response to the loud voices who convinced themselves that they knew more than the prime mover of all those years of skill and unity. All who want profit one way or another ruin everything? We seem a shadow of what was. Im not sure any of them have the dignity to admit they were wrong, as the cling to the tyranny of hope, in order that it seems like a continuous beneficial evolution.
From where we stand at this moment, even if we pull off fourth, the CL wont be much of a laugh, we look like the kind of side that would end up bottom of the group table having been serially thrashed.
    The process? Wtf is it?

    Even so, COYG!

  20. I really can’t see what all the fuss over VAR is. While Mandy is 100% correct the amount of time it took means it cannot of been clear and obvious, the fact remains is was the correct decision and that’s what we have been crying out for years.
The big question is why they took so long. The first normal real time replay showed very clearly it was offside and that was without slowing it down or freeze frame or anything.
I think the VAR officials forgot that to be onside a striker needs two players between themselves and the goal so Martinelli was in reality clearly off as he was nearer the goaline than the keeper.
The whole thing means once again VAR technology is fantastic but the idiots we have checking it is like an 90 year old using a mobile phone.
Anybody with a rule book and decent eyes would be better than these antiquated old farts.
We also have technology that could track the ball and the players (as they already where tech vests) which would automatically do the offside job.
Unfortunately football, especially English football are embarrassingly resistant to moving forward with modern technology and while that is the case simple cases like this will always cause arguments.

  21. Just looking at our squad we currently have 14 fit senior outfield players, but not to worry we have nine very good outfield players on loan.
By the way I haven’t included Tavares because if you don’t trust him to play he is unpickable and so is mentally injured.
