Burnley Performance Was Predictable.

Hello All.

In this latest podcast we look back at the disappointment of the Burnley performance and result and conclude it was entirely predictable as it’s the norn. The outliers of Sunderland and Norwich had us fooled, but the play we have seen for more or less the last 2 years was back, as it was against Liverpool. This is us now,

Pedantic George

  3. I see we’ve missed out on our main transfer target although from the sounds of it the talk was more PR than reality as the player was sought after by loads of clubs and he was only considering Champions League clubs.
Maybe some of the Wobs will realise the effect of kicking out Arsene and the low view, players and clubs from abroad, have for us.
I did laugh at a comment about a week on twitter when someone said they spent ages trying to learn how to pronounce Higuain only to realise it was pronounced Sanago.
I get the feeling we might be doing the same on February the 1st.

    WHAT HAPPENED

We suffered late heartbreak against Wigan Athletic as we were beaten 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday night.

Kevin Betsy had a strong contingent of players to choose from and deployed our key men from the start, with Charlie Patino, Salah Oulad M’Hand and Mika Biereth all starting.

After an assured opening 10 minutes, in which we dominated possession, we came within inches of taking the lead, Salah-Eddine’s curling strike from outside the box rattling the crossbar and going over.

Salah-Eddine almost turned provider shortly after, when his pinpoint through ball found Biereth, whose strike was smothered by the onrushing Jamie Jones.

Our young Gunners continued to impose themselves on the hosts, Omari Hutchinson’s fierce effort stinging the palms of Jones and falling to Zak Swanson, whose effort was saved well on the rebound.

Chris Sze was booked for simulation after going down under the challenge of Zach Awe, in what was Wigan’s first real charge into our box.

Patino was replaced by Reuell Walters at the break, signalling a change of system for Betsy’s men, but the second half started in a similar fashion to the first, with us taking the game to the hosts.

Swanson saw a good chance go just wide of the post after slipping at the final moment following an impressive team move to work the ball into the box.

Wigan grew into the half and came close to taking the lead, but for some heroic last-ditch defending from Awe to deny an almost certain goal.

The hosts made their pressure tell with eight minutes remaining, Divin Baningime capitalising on a brief lapse of concentration from our defence, running in behind and tucking the ball beyond Ovie Ejeheri.

We pushed right to the final whistle, but were unable to breach the Latics’ resolute backline in the closing stages.
    WHAT IT MEANS

We bow out of the Papa John’s Trophy after becoming the first-ever academy side to reach the quarter-final stage.
    WHAT’S NEXT

Members of tonight’s squad will now return to their respective age groups.

Betsy’s under-23s are back in Premier League 2 action on Friday, February 4, when we host Chelsea.

Kick-off at Meadow Park is 7pm (UK time).

Dan Micciche’s under-18s host Leicester City on Saturday, February 5, in their return to Under-18 Premier League action.

Kick-off at London Colney is at 11.30am (UK time).

Understand that Jack Wilshere is attracting interest from Monza, AEK Athens and several Championship clubs. Player due to fly out to Dubai with #AFC tomorrow, but willing to leave the camp to secure a move and wants to find a new club in the next 2 weeks.

  13. Arsenal squad flies to Dubai tomorrow for a mid season break and training camp. Jack Wilshere who is not and according to Arteta will not be, registered as an AFC player, is going, but Aubameyang, our highest earner, is not. He is still in the naughty corner, and will continue to train alone.

There are 5 days left of the January transfer window, Arteta says AFC are trying to sign some players, “level changers” according to the boss.
Reports suggest that along with Aubmeyang, we are willing to let Leno, Cedric and Eleney leave, along with a whole host of youth players. And that we will sign Matt Turner as back up goalie, and we also want a CM and a ST, both to be those “level changers” that Arteta wants. But that if we can’t get main targets, as in those on a short list, we will not sign anyone just to make up the numbers.

If they don’t like it then they are out, but not always before they have been humiliated in public.

In nearly 60 years as a fan, I have seen some bad managers and poor teams, but this regime takes the biscuit.

  22. Callum Chambers is a better player than Cedric and played better for Arsenal than Pablo Mari (my opinion). Players Arteta has bought are not as good as the players he is trying to replace. Ozil > Odegard, not sure Lokongo is better than Guendouzi. is Tomi better than Bellerin?

Also never thought i would say this but I would rather have Mourihino as manager than Arteta. Arteta is the shit version of Mourihnio who was never welcomed at the club but somehow the inferior version of him is welcomed with open arms.

The fans would be happy because they could slag them off as much as they liked knowing none would be true ARSENAL players.
It would also have the great advantage of not needing several windows to change the squad everytime we sacked the manager, oh sorry split up by mutual consent.

  35. It seems to me that Arteta and Edu having achieved their goal of making us the laughing stock of the EPL with the way we treated our best player, Ozil and others, they are now seeking to do the same in Europe with their treatment of Auba.

Why would any club employ a manager who, when a player annoys him, either in word or by action, proceeds to ostracise that player and refuse to allow him to play, notwithstanding the fact that he is the club’s best striker, and would continue to be so where Arteta to allow the midfield to pass to him in a place where he is most potent?

Why are we the club foolish enough to continue to employ him?

    This is becoming surreal.

sky and others reporting that we have turned down a couple of bids for Nketiah, with his contract up in the summer, it would seem to me that we would only be keeping him cos we are not confident of signing any striker, and we can’t go into the last 17 games of the season with our only striker being Lacazette

  37. I thought all top managers weren’t afraid to drop top name players if their form is off or their attitude is bad, indeed in Aubas case I definitely thought he should have been dropped however surely all players should have the chance to fight their place back and if they come back stronger it is brilliant for them and the club and makes the manager look good.
Unfortunately none of this makes Mikel look good.

  39. well ian the thing is despite Aubameyang being way off form for a while he was picked, and it took for an off field problem to see him lose his place in the team. And not only is he not being given the chance to get back in the team, he is not even allowed to train with any of our squad, not the first team, nor any of the youth teams. He has been banished to train alone, and I seen one report that said he has to do this training when the first team squad are not at London Colney. I do laugh at the hard man Arteta PR over this, too afraid to drop the guy to the subs bench when he was stinking the place up, but upset the boss on a personal level and its billy big bollocks from the manager.

The agent involved in Ainsleys deal said it took two days to get work permits etc sorted and that was fast tracked and their were also other Brexit related problems.
This suggests any European deals not already started and applications already in will not go through on time unless special dispensation is granted.

  45. the whole Aubameyang thing is just a carbon copy of Ozil, a high earner, our highest in fact, having his named blackened once the club decide to move him on, bloggers backing up and helping the club to make the player worthless transfer wise to the club, in fact less than worthless, as AFC paid to get rid, and it seems we are willing to do the same for Aubameyang. To think that we could so easily have protected either players value by just giving them a place on the bench, and a cameo here and there. But of course if that had been done, then their performances might have cast doubt on the decision to leave them out, and the risk of that is too much for Arteta and Edu to bare.
