Looks like we’re heading for fifth or equal fourth if you don’t count the goal difference after the games tomorrow going into the interlull.
I know Elton’s men had a good result last week but really can’t see them causing us much problem.
Probably the same starting line up if the minor knocks have healed although Keiran might be back on the bench.
All in all we should be able to look forward to this game and this weekends fixtures with ease and not have to sit through loads of tense moments.

there is no way we will equal the goal difference so it will be 5th if we win, I don’t go along with the equal thing when we are behind, if at end of the season we are equal points with the 4th placed team but behind on GD, we won’t be in CL.

Watford’s comeback and big defeat of Everton could have a big impact on their season and Benitez is in thin ice with the evertonians.
Villa aren’t the same team without the combos of an in form Barkley and Grealish.
Vardy is and Evans are a year older.
I agree with Ian the race for fifth and sixth is probably less competitive then last season.

For me this will be a real test for the players, more so perhaps than the Leicester game. Will they be able to approach it with real professionalism or will they turn up believing that they only have to go through the motions? I can all too easily imagine slow play, frustration, a bit of pitch tilting from the officials and a disappointing 0-2 defeat after a contentious red card.

I have to say the yellow cards to Lokonga and Tomiyasu were correct.
However applying the same judgment it’s hard to see how Watford are not a man down for doing the same thing repeatedly.

That would be what after long observation what we can safely quantify as the PGMOB handicap (about ten points a season) for the unfavoured clubs with their continental non-Yorkshire based (The Mikes!) footballing culture – there may be one official from the South now but there hasn’t been for a long stretch of the last twenty years it is: what it is!
Easy to acknowledge for most save from the fence sitting frauds such as the lame blagger Shard shamelessly exposed yesterday for his ignorant fraudulence. Sadly for their gullible listeners these pod packers with their podcasts longer then a game of football they know less then the sweet FA about the footy.
They mirror the modern club owner perfectly. And the modern club owner was succinctly described in the Damned Utd when the Derby County owner justified his sacking of Brian Clough (that worked out well for them!) – they are not very clever. Or nice.

You could give Arteta the PSG squad and his teams would be as turgid.
Under this coach every goal is a bonus and I’ll be celebrating any goals this season never mind the results or the turgid play.
Maybe Arteta will outfox the older coach this half but in the absence of both his senior CMs on the pitch to guide the team, with Auba shrinking, I doubt it. I hope he does come up with something. But he only has himself to blame for letting Auba take the pens as all the fans have know he isn’t the best penalty taker since the miss at Tottenham…
…does arteta need a penalty coach? Or drone?

I celebrated that goal oh yes! Hopefully there’ll be more but at the moment I’ll take deflected shots after the opponents make a mistake let’s face it it’s better then waiting for one Arteta’s trademark moves to actually work!

Smith Rowe looked likeliest to score given how he kept drifting into space and running into the box.Huge improvent in his game and a lovely finish. We have missed this for sure.
Lacazette has really played well as well.

we’ve had two goals ruled out for offside, Saka in the first half, and now PEA in the second, this one was going in if he hadn’t touched it from odegaard. PEA has also had a penalty saved, so not his finest game

Having spent the game being kicked up in the air I thought that was a good effort from our boys, despite the best efforts of our captain to muck things up!

On an afternoon where Auba minuses two goals from the his teams’ possible score I’ll take the one goal!!!
The problem with the blatant officials blatantly tilting is that you can still win your home games but it is harder away with the fans back (please see the record and data from AWs last season if this comment is in any way confusing or if you are an expert blagger or one of those podding plundits who keep ripping content from these pages to cover their arsenals.

Really good performance and really good game up until we scored, thank god Auba was doing his best to keep the score at nil nil or the game might have got dull a lot earlier.
It was a shame on an afternoon the team was showing some real glimpses of good football that we witnessed the worst performance by an ARSENAL captain in my memory.
Auba is shot and it is ironic that Watford were complaining about being down to ten men when we scored that effectively we were down to ten men since the first whistle.
That and the fact that had Kevin Friend shown any competence today they would have seen several of their players sent off.
I can imagine the Watford coaching staff seeing all the sackings lately and their owners willingness to move managers on quickly were trying to divert attention away from their poor performance.
Anyway back to us, as we have said several times scoring and then sitting back especially at home to a lower ranked team is extremely boring.
Also again we don’t go 1-0 up and then sit back but are in control of the game we actually invite trouble we can’t deal with. To play that game the team has to solid front to back which we are not and you have to be fast and clinical on the break which we are not.
On the positive side our three best player today we’re the three academy players and I was chuffed Ainsley rightly got MOTM.
This again proves Mikel’s dislike for academy players is wrong and incompetent and I can’t believe Auba completed 96 minutes today when Eddie is a much better player now and he is sitting there kicking his heels.
Ten unbeaten in all competitions is nothing to be sniffed at so onwards and upwards COYG.

Watford came with a rotational fouling plan, the ref generally obliged them as much as he could. What was it with him and Rose and no bookings?
We weren’t at our best, but not easy to play against those tactics and refs, in the end , Watford tried what some many have in the past against this club, but left with what they deserved, absolutely nothing.
Don’t usually like to single out our players for any critique, but Auba should make a large contribution to the clubs charity pot !

Chuffed to bits for Ainsley man of the match. He is a quality player and hopefully remains an Arsenal player.
I thought we would miss Partey but Ainsley and Lokonga were really good.
Its clear that Artetas plan when he brings Odegaard on is to sit back and see the game out. I don’t like it but I understand its about getting points on the board. But he does need to do something with Auba. I thought Laca should have stayed on and Martinelli should have come in for Auba.
This Arteta ran however is not similar to Unai. We are playing better and there is a cohesion developing with team.

The football is getting gradually better from the start of the season. My comment above on some of the play being turgid today were harsh. if we count Auba’s poor touch on a difficult take for the Saka offside goal that’s three goals that could’ve been scored from what I guess are three high xG chances if Auba was not having a mare.
That’s different from Emeryball. What’s similar to Emeryball is sitting back sometimes too much or too early on leads, the tortoise tactic. But there’ve been more goals then there were. GD is almost a positive and that’s a positive trend.
I’d lowered my hopes to about a goal a game but ESR’s record today and other players scoring has been the big plus of late.
I felt Aubameyang wouldn’t regain decent form for a time after his virus and other interruptions and it’s a strong argument for others playing more that Auba is still on the way back to full fitness?
LikeLike
Auba is not out of form, Auba is not working his way back to fitness. Auba has never give much apart from goals.
His shooting ability and first touch have never been good. However his movement and speed were world class and that’s what made him so dangerous.
The last couple of seasons his all round game has become worse and worse and the it is criminal he is still in the first eleven. He should have been sold to be honest but while he’s still in the squad then his knack of being in the right place would be much better used for the last twenty minutes in games where were one goal behind.
