  1. That’s a great story, thank you for sharing!

Just to avoid confusion on the Pies, it is possible to get nice pies in London! If desired. And I hope that is reassuring for those of you who might one day visit n5 when we can travel again. Hopefully soon. There’s a popular pie shop near the stadium for example.

My critique was about the catering in the stadium not just the pies. Or the rolls. But tea too! Can’t forget the tea! Forgive my pie fetish but the inability to get a cup of tea at half time for most people is a crime. And I won’t even mention Bovril as in this cold weather surely everyone can appreciate the need for a hot beverage on a cold afternoon!

    Intergalactic class.
Absolutely agree with all your comments.
Much thanks to AW for bringing him to the Arsenal.

Even Mourinho knew, “There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes”.

I will miss Mesut soooo much.
    Like I miss AW….
The dis-wengering of Arsenal is almost complete.
Auba, Laca, Xhaka… could all be next.
    Who knows?

Thank you so much Mesut Ozil for blessing us with your talent.
    All the best.

  4. fins on the subject of the catering in the stadium, unless things have changed in recent years, when we moved to the Emirates, AFC sold off the catering contract for a set fee per season, and so the club could care less what the standard is, they get their fee regardless of how much or how little is sold. Its poor practice not to insist on certain standards, but I would say if we do then they are similar to Arteta’s non negotiables, they only apply when and where the club wishes

  7. So the powers that be have won, although it has cost them a fortune and we the fans are losing because we are unlikely to see his like again for a long time, if at all.

ESR is a project in progress, but I doubt if he will ever reach the full ability of what we are giving away.

Thanks, Mesut for your skill and the beauty of your work.

Even if it may have deteriorated in recent years, it was still a pleasure to watch.

How soon before the depressingly low level of skill that is served up to us by Arteta will make even the hardened antis eat their words, remains to be seen.

The disgraceful way you have been treated is a stain on all of us, especially the powers that be and Arteta, who many, like me, may never really accept as a fitting manager for our beloved club.

Arsenal are being linked with Newcastle’s 23 year old goalie Freddie Woodman, who is on loan at Swansea, we have been linked with him for a couple of years now, in fact ever since his dad, Andy, joined our Academy coaching staff, think that was in 2017

if this is true, then we will have gone from Runarsson who was recommended by our first team Goalie coach, Inaka Cana Pavon, who had worked with him in the past, to signing the son of our U23 Goalie coach, what could be wrong with that

I would also say players come and go even the very best ones and unfortunately as fans you just have to see it as a occupational hazard and chose a new hero however bitter you may feel about the parting. Over the years I have seen alot go.
As Mesut goes the best thing to do is remember the joy and genius he gave us and smile in the knowledge he played for the ARSENAL most clubs fans are not so lucky.
The shame is with him going it is less likely other quality players and coaches will come in and also the likes of ESR are more likely to find their plateau at other clubs meaning we will lose players at both ends of the scale.
I loved watching Mezut at the ARSENAL but his leaving is a massive indictment on our club.

  17. its sad ozil is gone, and I will remember him fondly and add him to my list of favorite all time AFC players, sadly a list that contains a whole host of players that left us far too soon.
Charlie George, Liam Brady, Charlie George, David Rocastle, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Aaron Ramsey, Cesc, Mesut Ozil.
when you look at that list, I think you can see a trend in the sort of players that make me fall in love with the game, time and again. There are hundreds of players I really liked, I could easily fill out several teams of players in their set positions that I really liked, but those above were a cut above.
On the wider football world put in cryuff, maradona, zico, socrates, platini, tigana, Messi, and here is an odd one for you Steve Coppell

  18. I notice I put in Charlie George twice, the second one should have been Charlie Nicholas.

Some of those on the list forced their moves away from us, some were forced out by the club, but none were forced as much as ozil has been.

The most distasteful thing about his exit is how so many journos and blaggers all of as sudden are coming out with character assassination of him, all to me seem to have been briefed by the club. I really hope Mesut hits back, as I can not stand this sort of bullshit. There was a time Arsenal had real class on and off the pitch, but over recent years we have become a classless club off the pitch. we seen it with Ramsey, and Koscielny and now Ozil. I think this development is the saddest thing, we all know the team’s level will come and go, but we down through the years could take this as we always knew the club had real class, but now as things stand it is much harder to take the barren spells knowing the club is no different to so many others.

Things no doubt could have been handled differently and I totally agree that the values once attributed to Arsenal FC have eroded away.

  23. I hardly know where to start with the whole Ozil thing, but for me things started to go wrong halfway through his first season with us. He’d played magnificiently, looking every penny worth what for then was a record signing – but as night follows day whispers about his lack of commitment started to creep in. Suddenly it seemed that every pundit was calling him out: a flat track bully, invisible when the going got tough, scared, a passenger. Every Arsenal reverse seemed to be blamed on him, and for a sizable section of the fan base the chant that he was Arsene Wenger’s man was a red rag to a bull. The eagle eyed among us might spot something similar happened with Granit Xhaka. Those who had been calling for years for steel to be inected into the Arsenal spine were outraged at his uncompromising style – a red card waiting to happen was the cry, and to a refereeing body all too keen to punish The Arsenal no second invitation was necessary. He quickly became a marked man. The influence that the TV pundits have is significant, the reverence with which Gary Neville’s judgements are treated extraordinary.

George and co tell me it is unlikely that we will see top class players coming to the Arsenal any time soon, but I can almost guarantee that should that happen the whisperings will soon start.

  24. And what of this blog site? What is it to become, asked George a couple of days ago. It is a good question. I would like to see it remain as an article based forum, but where the comments section continues to reflect a variety of opinion. The problem with that of course is that it needs articles to be writen, and if the name of the site is to remain valid, those articles need to have something positive to say, which is hard in these dark times.

And mention of dark times, and Mesut’s new location, reminds me of this very fine letter that was sent during WW2 by Lord Inverchapel.

    My Dear Reggie,

In these dark days man tends to look for little shafts of light that spill from Heaven. My days are probably darker than yours, and I need, my God I do, all the light I can get. But I am a decent fellow, and I do not want to be mean and selfish about what little brightness is shed upon me from time to time. So I propose to share with you a tiny flash that has illuminated my sombre life and tell you that God has given me a new Turkish colleague whose card tells me that he is called Mustapha Kunt.

We all feel like that, Reggie, now and then, especially when Spring is upon us, but few of us would care to put it on our cards. It takes a Turk to do that.

  25. Yes Tim, we need positive articles, or at least articles that give hope that positive is around the corner. It must not become a vehicle for me to chat shit endlessly. In an ideal world/blog, I would just be an occasional contributor, as everyone else would be. There are smarter, more knowledgeable and better writers than me in the comments sections. But if they don’t put their shoulder to the wheel, we will be stuck in my mud.

After King Bergkamp is Prince Ozil for me.

Shame that a majority of Arsenal fans still show love for fabregas, van persie but shat on 2 legends in Ramsey n Ozil.

I find myself relating les and less with this type of mindset.

In a team struggling with creating chances, we get rid of one of the best players at creating chances Arsenal and the Prem have ever seen and some fans celebrate the fact.

Like I said I find myself relating less and less with this mindset.

If we all knew Kornke would be as horrible and force the club to sell all the time our best players instead of SUPPORTING the greatest manager this club has ever had…… we’d happily sell to Usmanov. We had the best Manager in the World….. a manager that came 1-2 against a giant ( mautd) for a decade as a foreigner with all that it entails when it comes to media/ref behaviour etc etc…and only dropped to pos 2-3-4 because of billions of arabs and russians. And even when he got close with the youngsters…i did not see Korneke or Hillwood or anyone protecting what we had…instead they allowed wenger to be cannibalised by the stupid moronic trumpists element of the arsenal fanbase , the media, the refs, opposition managers etc etc etc

Only at Arsenal do we find this phenomenon…where the club’s greatest ever manager is treated like ….. just some other manager…..

The stadium should be named Arsene, at least. And Wenger himself eternal honourary chairman at the very least. Its his club in my book. He decides. Not Kroneke not the fans…

  30. “cesc is special in our hearts”
Fact is cesc went on strike, refused to play for arsenal and forced arsenal to take a knock down price for one of the best midfielders in the world cause he insisted on going to barca no matter what, hence no bidding wars were held for him. And we won fack all with him and he joined our bitter rivals.

Ozil won us trophies, gave us loads of moments of magic and was loyal to the end.

  32. sorry should have rephrased..special in my heart. His transfer to Barcelona was the result of Arsenal Onwers not supporting Wenger in the transfer market. Wenger was in Asia banging the drum ‘If we sell our world class players noone will think of us a world class club any more’. I do not remember Wenger ‘ HAVING TO’ sell Vieira or Hnery in 1999 or 200 or 2001 …. The owners chose to use Wenger to repay the stadium instead of pushing on ….how did we expect cesc or anyone to stay once they became old enough to understand it themselves?
And look if the Onwers would come out and protect them all there would be no problem. But when the fans come out baying for blood + media+ rivals and you let your manager and players get canibalised like that….would you still work for them? Why did Koscileny leave? Wenger could not leave…its his baby , his club…but players have a 10 year career ..if that… why spend half of it at Arsenal where noone really gives a shit about winning trophies other than us the players and the manager?? They saw how many teammates getting butchered on the pitch? Who from Arsenal hierarchy came out to have a word? Noone…….. Im sorry but im not going to bust my legs and guts for Arsenal if they want to keep bringing kolasinac and chammakh, selling robin etc etc instead of getting that one or two pl;ayers we always needed. Thats on the Onwers, not the players not the manager.

  33. and when Wenger asks for a Cristiano Ronaldo you dont bring him a Gervinho…… . How many miracles does he have to pull? How many top4 finsihes will he get with denilson and alex song…. ? It is a miracle actually Wenger kept Arsenal where they were with theo walcott and kierran gibbs. Therefore when you have a wizzard like that you have two options: 1) You milk him dry ( which is what Kroenke and Hillwood’s did) till the goose stops laying those golden eggs. 2)You go and bring him the players he asks for first time asked, not the 4th and 5th choice…… he wont live forever to turn 1m value players into 16 and 20m . which essentially brings us to : HOW AMBITIOUS ARE THE ARSENAL OWNERS? can they match abarmovic? glazers? berlusconi? hoeness? gaspar? laporta? …thats the issue…

if everytime your manager brings you close to them giants you ruin the team and sell the best players you will never build anything big ..wenger or no wenger….

so to conclude..when you have pisspoor owners… a shit fanbase… wenger type managers (builders) are the best you can hope for as a club….
