A few days ago a chap calling himself @arseblagger posted this:-
Now I have to say this fine fellow is easily the smartest and most entertaining of tweeters, so it’s no surprise that once again he has been proven right. I recommend that we all stop following everyone but him, he’s pure genius.
Anyway, as he predicted, after Thursday night we could be looking at a sea change in our spirits and prospects for the rest of the season.
The display at the weekend and our home form in general gives us a good chance of going through despite the two goal disadvantage from the first leg.
There was great news on Tuesday when we learned that Lacazette had had is ban reduced to two games and is eligible to play. Also Mkhitaryan could be fit to play, although Papa will miss out following his red card at Rennes.
Predicting who and how Emery will line up is a pointless endeavour, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Torreira is available so whether we will see both, or even one, of Ozil and Ramsey is unsure. Personally I would find a place for both of our best players but I’m not the head coach.
It should be a great night as we will have to go for it. I, for one, am looking forward to the game.
Being an Arsenal fan is a bit like being a surfer, one moment you are riding on the crest of a wave and the next you are flapping about struggling for breath. It’s a weird old season.
Ok, that’s it, I’m off to twitter to read the musings of the wonderful @arseblagger .
our home form this season in the league is right up there with last season’s great home form,
P19 W15 D2 L2 GF54 GA20 GD+34
so far this season
P16 W13 D2 L1 GF37 GA12 GD+25
so over the last two seasons its
P35 W28 D4 L3 GF91 GA32 GD+59
this record is only bettered by reigning champions and current leaders Man City
oh what a pity our away record was so woeful last year and is not very good this year either

From someone who can’t write or type, thanks George.
Should be a good game. Nothing to lose, weekend off, Miki & Torreira back in contention for a start. Papa & Kozza both match fit and the starting CBs, Leno settling in. Sven’s head may be rotting on a spike but at least he is smiling. Eh?
The new gaffer must be loving his squad right about now – certainly looks, objectively, like those people blathering on about the new coach needing two or three windows were chatting out of their Arsenals. He just needed his CBs fit and to have more then one fit CB during the Xmas crunch, as evidenced by the old form curve on the graph.
Not sure we’ll see the same line up again for reasons we all clearly understand. Billy BIg Blagger may not want to discuss the Footy when they have a Narrative to flog but thanks to George: we can! And have been. Cheers George.

Actually funny that Ribery is still starting for Munchen.
Shame the Gunners couldn’t play against this squad, but hopefully next season!!

Who is this @arseblagger bloke, I think I’ve seen his musings before. Can’t be a real gooner as he doesn’t seem to be within spunking distance of Highbury.
Obviously we need a good start tomorrow and will need to limit their chances, with both teams going for goal, although they will go for a breaking tactic, it should be a cracker.
Laca’s a cheat but I love him and it would be great if he’s scores a hatfull.
Actually because of the two goal margin I do think it will be quite close and nail bitting at times. However I am looking forward to it massively especially with the international withdrawal period just after.

Even more strange, Hang five of Mills, or five times?
I knew Hang ten but not Hang five,( the term for walking the nose/standing at the end of the surf board) and had to look it up.
I only know walking the nose from the Beach Boys song “surfin Surfari” which says ” At Rincon theyre walking the nose”. It must have still been a term back in 1962, as Denny was an authentic surfer and fed Brian the surfin terms, seems to have gone out of usage now though, and as PG pointed out Hang five is the right term.
‘Tubular’ I knew as I worked with a guy from The Valley years ago, and he reckoned when the surfers met each other they would extend hand shakes only to curve over and say ” tubular” and the other would curve under and “say barrel over dude” and thus it was a sign of their surfin brotherhood.
Hang Mills might be a term though? I have come across it many times( sadly), and ran for the hills. Mills Hills? That might be a term too, somewhere?
Banned Smileys and COYG! And heres to a great one tonight. Surfs up!

Hopefully the faithful won’t need to put on the wet suits when they leave the stadium this evening like they did on Sunday, but I am hoping for a similar score line!

Reiss Nelson named in England U21 squad. A bit surprising that Maitland-Niles isn’t in it.
Nketiah and Willock named in England U20 squad, meaning they won’t travel with the first-team to Dubai.
Bukayo Saka named in the England U19 squad.
John-Jules, Balogun, Amaechi and Daley-Campbell in England U18 squad

Strong line up and a strong bench tonight…hope we can keep it real tight at the back( lets face it we can if we want). They will pile it on, that know that one goal for them makes it an K2 attempt for us.
However…

HT: Arsenal 2-0 Rennes
Aubameyang and Maitland-Niles with our goals,
we have dominated for long spells, it got scrappy at times as Rennes got niggly and dived around a lot.
Arsenal started with high energy and a great tempo to the game and it had Rennes at sixes and sevens, need to start second half the same way again.

FT: Arsenal 3-0 Rennes
Aubameyang x2 and Maitland-Niles with our goals.
Dominated for long spells in the first half, but Rennes got into the game in the spells the game was scrappy. PEA missed a couple of great chances to get his hattrick.
AFC in the to the QF now.

We didn’t really get into full flow, mostly because Rennes were extremely chippy. But when we did, we punished them. Kolasinac and Maitland-Niles were outstanding. Win and advance.
