Uh-oh, It Is ManUtd

A guest post from Sensational Arsenal @Madras_Periyar
Football is unfair. This season, we have been ruthless, dominating and lethal against teams (yes, yes, there have been stutters, defeats, bad days, etc.), but no team has been so utterly bossed and left chasing shadows as  ManUtd were when they visited us at the Emirates. Maybe it is my intense dislike for that lot that is giving me this skewed view. We all know how that game ended up. United had no right to earn a draw, let alone a win, and yet it was us praying for at least a draw in the final minutes after Giroud scored that ridiculous goal. This is how football is and that win gave United confidence to go on a run to get out of their slump.
That is my trepidation and I suspect the trepidation of many. Past burns. For many of us, one of the highlights of this season would be retaining the FA cup. This team is approaching the runway in terms of greatness and I believe, much much better than the current ManUtd team and their form. If we play like we played against Man City, we should win. There have also been games where we actually played well and lost. Usually these games were lost by us on fine margins. Missed chances at the crucial times, small mistakes after periods of total domination, etc, have  snowballed into comprehensive defeats. Past experience also makes us wary of the dives of Wayne Rooney, his goals, goals that inevitably seem to be scored by Judas, happy-to-award-penalties-to-united-anyday referees, etc.
Letting go of the FA cup will be a disappointment, particularly after coming close, and especially if it involves losing to ManUtd.
Like everyone here, I believe in this team and will believe in any Arsenal team against any opposition. We might be apprehensive, but let us not transmit that to our players. Let us support the team and show that we believe in them. If the team is focussed, professional and at their top top top level and not unlucky, we should progress. Let us enjoy this game and I for one am itching for the tables to be turned. Let us school them and also actually beat them.
Come on Arsenal!

  2. Quite right and all SA – we pride ourselves on being supporters of a great club, with a wonderful history and an exciting present and future. Then we must act like it, not like children hiding behind the football sofa because we are fearful of disappointment.

It is games like a QF at Trafford Park that we will look back on as a marker of the season, of one of the milestones along the route of supporting the Arsenal.

I refuse to be cowed, nervous or other than firmly on the front foot for this one. It is a day for us to turn up, play our football and make our own piece of history.

Begone you Fergie demons, away Van Horse and Out, damn’d spot! out, I say!

  3. You echo my thoughts SA. The worst team to lose to bar none for me. And we tore them to pieces at the Ems it was a tragedy and a refereeing farce that allowed them to score when they did. Anyhoo that is in the past. We have to keep the faith because we know we are better than them and their luck simply must run out soon.

  4. my first reaction after the draw was that there is no better time to beat united than now. although they seem to have upper hand in most of our meetings, we have almost always out played them. apart from referees who always favour united, we dont seem to play them at full strength. most of the time we have lots of injuries to our key players. so if we have a better luck this time with our players, we can surely beat them.

  5. I honestly believe we are better equipped to beat manure than any time in last few years, yeah I know they have scored lucky goals, had red and black refs and even cursed us with flu in the past. However we have coped with bad luck and poor refs this season and are much more resilient. If we haven’t got 27 injuries when we play them we will win.

  6. Oh and when we retain the F.A. Cup this season it won’t be the the highlight of the season that will be bringing home the CL trophy with Jack singing “what dya think of Maureen”

Ok so the PSG v Chelsea game was like watching paint dry. When I switched over to Shahktar v Bayern it was like watching paint dry. But to be fair games at this stage of the CL tend be like watching paint dry. I hope our will be more interesting….

nothing will happen obviously…roman abramovic seems untouchable in this country…maybe he owns it….dodgy wealth, dodgy activities in estate, football, oil trade etc , a detestable football team, managers and players…….

is that what the shy/epl product is all about then?

heh…. come on england..becoem good again…arsenal is your flagship club now…not united not the racists, but your theos gibbs ramseys wilsheres welbecks oxlades etc.

they promote this kind of behaviour, they encourage it, they feed of it…..their racist captain is still playing football and receiving money and positive media time.

i get it that arsenal fans have stupid racist little englanders in their ranks too just like all athletes dope up but its only if they catch you 😉 ..heh…

Chelsea have one of the worst records going.

Arsenal’s old firm was run by a big black fellow, and racism was kept out of the terraces by the majority – so I’ve been told by the old skoolers. (so I’ve been told).

Do you seriously expect England to get better?, even with a team packed full of talented Gunners (and you forgot Jenks btw but included Ramsey (!)) when the FA still act like regressive dinosaurs and have managers like Roy who can’t call Rooney’s behaviour for what it is when they see it?

heh yes ramsey ..he is from wales…but seriously whats the difference? not being funny just find it a bit odd. its a pity to lose on talent like giggs ramsey bale etc …

as for the national team they will only get betetr if they start listenign and copying wenger and abandon their ridiculous “hoof run tackle” football ideology and embrace the continental approach…but you know the english ..stubborn and proud ..’we know, the rest dont” .. ” its our game”…etc etc

i have high hopes for the next tournaments for england…and roy is not that bad…. its the media that are the worst…they never let the players calm and they always re-ignite the club feuds…

In my experience the proportion is less then others. Maybe not by a huge margin, I don’t know.
One reason I support the good old Arsenal is because I could go (or my mum would let me go!) to the ground when I could afford it (expensive for kids from the very dawn of the PL – I don’t blame vengarrrrrghhhh) in the early or mid-nineties as a nipper. I believe that Davis and Rocky were ignored by the England managers but Rocastle was a crowd favourite around about the same time that Scouse fans were still throwing bananas at England international Barnes.

look i will be harsh…england is a bit useless at football and the only way to remain relevant in the sport is to build/promote its league as a product to EXPORT worldwide ( more than cars, computers raw materials etc) . wenger helped a lot for this by offering competition and stylish football and a professionalism not seen before in these shores my biggest complaint is how could they treat a manager who has doen so much for the propmotion of their football league so terrible.

the other way of remaining relative in the sport is by making beckham owen and rooney the equals of zidanne figo messi ronaldo etc etc. “we have world class heroes too, dont forget us now” …..

    childish….
