New Club Proposed By Disaffected Arsenal Fans

Today’s post is by Muppet

A friend of mine in the City has brought me some worrying news:
NEW CLUB PROPOSED BY DISAFFECTED ARSENAL FANS

Muppet1

The Grove – Proposed new Stadium, to be financed by Bank Of Dave
A breakaway consortium, to be financed by the Bank of Dave, is proposing a new club. The spokesman confirmed:
“We are sick of Arsene Wenger and the years of austerity, failed tactics and incompetence. We propose a new club called Farsenal Plan B, with a new stadium called The Grove. The new club will have a new constitution, stipulating no injuries, a guaranteed trophy every year, and a maximum of 2 French players.”

The proposed initiative is to be financed by the Bank of Dave, a Yorkshire entrepreneur , who went on the record:
“A group of unhappy bloggers on some Arsenal sites and Twitter came to my shop in Burnley and had a business proposal, to turn Farsenal Plan B into the number 1 club in the world. They were attracted by my low rate of interest. “

Muppet2

Money does grow on trees
The spokesmen confirmed that Bank of Dave wanted assurances that Farsenal Plan B would win the league every year:
“We are convinced there are numerous managers who could do a far better job than Arsene Wenger. We are busy looking for them. We know they are out there somewhere.”
INJURIES – NO PROBLEM
The spokeman also confirmed that injuries that have the plagued the current Arsenal squad, will no longer occur:
“My mate who is married to a doctor, assures me that the wrong pills are being prescribed. But that’s not the real problem, we are not buying the right players. They have the wrong DNA. “

Muppet3

Proposed DNA profile of new players – sadly lacking in current crop
Players are currently sought after via Bob, who is a mate down the pub. He told the spokesman that he would scout some kids in the local area, and come back with some news. Another scout has been offered a free holiday to Brazil, in order to bring some prospects back. He hasn’t been seen since, but we are sure he will have some good news for the new consortium.
In the meantime, negotiations are ongoing with Ronaldo, Messi, Schweinsteiger, Lahm and others.
NEW CLUB MOTTO
The club’s spokesman confirmed that there will be a new motto, reflecting a much needed change in attitude:
“Who dares wins”
The spokesman stressed the need for a change of emphasis at Farsenal Plan B:
“Who dares wins is a new idea and a new motto for a fresh brand of football. We will be looking for a director of football and a manager who is not scared to spend. The mistakes of the past must not be repeated. We had the opportunity to spend the £100 million war chest in the last window, where Spurs proved there were literally thousands of players available, and we totally wasted it. To cover for injured players we propose a new squad size of 50. Never again will injured players ruin our season.”
An outline sketch of a new club motif is underway:

Proposed new club motif

NEW IDEAS
Some more innovative ideas are that of soliciting the team via crowdsourcing. The spokesman was enthusiastic about the merits of Twitter:
“We believe in the idea that the collective wisdom of Farsenal Plan B fans can add a great deal to the process of team selection and transfer negotiations and procurement of players. We propose that fan suggestions for players and evaluations are taken seriously and fed into the club’s management process. We believe that the model of player evaluations is too manager centric, and for that reason is fallible. “

Muppet5V2

Planned technological innovation- listen to those “in the know”
“Arsenal missed the boat on many players who have since gone on to world super stardom. The names stick in the throat – Melo, Scott Parker, Affellay, Defoe. If the club had been more tech savvy, these names would have been heard loud and clear from a very influential fan base. Farsenal Plan B will now take advantage.“
DETAILED FINANCIAL ANALYSIS NOT REQUIRED
The spokeman was bullish that world domination could be achieved by what he called “Weeding out the dross” from the squad:
“Too much money has been spent on the likes of Chamakh and Gervinho. 50k a week for players who offered little. We propose that we attract better players at £30k a week. This model is proven at other clubs and will secure our new future. I drew this inspiration from Costcutters. There are hundreds of players available for £30k a week. “

Premier League Predictions for next 3 years.
The spokesman confirmed that Farsenal Plan B will win the league in the next 3 years:
“We believe that 3 straight league wins would be a modest return on our investment. By hiring a manager with tactical nous, and employing the wisdom of the fan base, we will go from strength to strength.”.

  1. That is extraordinary George – there are really people who say this sort of thing ?

I very, very rarely come across this sort of stuff – and when I do, well that sort of vile ignorance is swiftly consigned to the cybersewer.

And you make a very good point Tim about CL football.

When I was a kid, in fact up to the late 90s even the chance of Arsenal playing in the European Cup was exciting. Pitting our wits against the best in the world, the Ajax’s the Bayerns, the Milans and Reals even the Celtics in days gone by – and for most of my life it was a dream – something I could fantasise about or pretend in games down the park with jumpers for goalposts etc.

I suspect kids all over the country did the same, and probably a fair number still do whose clubs have bugger all chance of dancing with Zadok the Priest.

Very occasionally, because only League Champions qualified, my dreams turned to reality and I loved those rare games.

So the contempt with which 4th place and CL football season in and season out is dismissed as nothing astounds me.

These people have no idea, no dreams, no understanding. Utter utter ignorance.

  5. Everton travel down south to play Southampton in the early12:45pm kick-off tomorrow.

God knows we suffered enough from early kick-off games. Just worried though that Southampton have gone quite off the boil in recent games, seems to be no urgency to get more points. still Roy should be watching – plenty of England possible men to see.
So many teams are dropping key players to injuries at the critical time of the season – there must be a lot of completely rubbish medical teams in the premier league.

And in other news, If the 5pud2s don’t get 3 points at Stoke I’m calling it a St. Totteringham day because of the massive gulf in GD.

  6. foreverheady @8.03pm,

I concur with your comment and I have said that far too many times at Untold. You hear nonsense like: “why can’t we have a debate” from the doomers and I respond: “you are not looking for a debate, you are trying to cause trouble by inciting the regulars”. Sort of like me as an atheist going to comment on a Catholic blog and then going on to accuse the regulars of intolerance. They might be intolerant but I would be a dick.

There are more than enough negative Arsenal sites on the Internet to satisfy their doom mongering. They should leave the positive fans (or deluded as they call us) in peace.

Haven’t you heard? Arsenal was a Juggernaut of a club that used to sign only the best players in the world and win trophies every season until that stingy Frenchman came and ruined it all. You have to wonder where the idiots who denigrate our top 4 finishes think that the club would be now without regular champions’ league football.

When you tell them that Arsenal was just a modest English club before Arsene made us one of the top 5-6 in Europe, they go nuts with indignant rage. Having the Emirates stadium and simultaneously appearing in the UCL every season is a modern miracle. One that only the moronic heathens can deny. I am forever grateful to Wenger for putting aside his personal quest for glory to take the insult from the ingrates in our midst as he led us to this new era. Their hero, Mourhino would NEVER do what Wenger did but then a prophet is never appreciated by his own.

Apologies for my amateur psychology but the trophy junkies (aka Wenger Out Brigade) are nothing but losers who want to use the club’s silverware as substitutes for their empty life accomplishments. Seeing the club ran honourably and growing is more important to me than trophies. I love trophies, don’t get me wrong, but I love our long term sustainability and growth more. My belief is that clubs that are big enough always win trophies from time to time. We are at that size now where we would hardly ever go 3 season without a trophy. We would be winning trophies more regularly now because we are now that type of club.

That’s just the way it is.

Lets not belittle their efforts and accomplishments just because some idiots have delusions of grandeur and unreasonable expectations. I loved this team before AW & I love it even more now under his care. It is truly the most amazing club that ever was with an amazing past and even more amazing future to come. Lets not put them down and compare them to the current team and club. Thanks buddy.

“some idiots have delusions of grandeur and unreasonable expectations”

and where do these delusions come from if not from that false sense of arsenal’s actual position in world football? im belittling those fans who treat arsenal as if it were the type of club that won minimum a trophy per year and was feared all over europe

i dont think anyone outside arsenal would really sweat about arsenal before wenger….indifference…with him everyone has taken notice of this club a lot more seriously than ever before in its history.

i dont know any other way to say it……besides youre panathinakos now and were playing against cska moscow to reach euroleague final4 ..:P we are going for the 7th european title…what arsenal???…arsenal is still in kindergarten …

  25. Boys, people forget how much the club changed after Arsenes arrival.

I worked it out, something like this:

The forty years before Arsene became manager our average league position was 6.9

Our average league position with Arsene as manager is 2.6

    That is pretty impressive.

    League position history since 1960:

    1961-1970 – 11, 10, 7, 8, 13, 14, 7, 9, 4, 12 (= 9.5)
    1971-1980 – 1 (double), 5, 2, 10, 16, 7, 8, 5, 7, 4 (=6.5)
    1981-1990 – 3, 4, 10, 6, 7, 7, 4, 6, 1, 4 (= 5.2)
    1991-1996 – 4, 10, 4, 12, 5, 3 (= 6.4)
    1997-2005 – 1 (double), 2, 2, 2, 1 (double), 2, 1 (Invincibles), 2 (= 1.6)
    Post stadium era: 2006-2013 – 4, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4 (= 3.6)

It is there in black and white to see how our club has improved under Arsene Wenger.

Since Wengers arrival the club can boast the following:

Our average league position has improved from 6.9 to 2.6
We have won two PL and FA Cup doubles.
We are the only team to go a PL season undefeated.
We have built a new training facility.
We have built a 60,000 seater stadium.

We have achieved all this through our means and without the help of a sugar daddy. Whatever way you look at it, since Wengers the club has been transformed.

Even at PA, the idea that Arsenal wasn’t a top club pre-Wenger is difficult to accept. Truth is we were not. Yes, like other good English clubs we were there or there about once in every few years but the Wenger era is when we really became a regular European top team. We don’t need to argue over this, it is historical fact.

    Goonerkam,

Saying that my dad is not one of the most influential man in my town does not mean belittling him. Arsenal has a rich history and I wouldn’t swap the team for Real Madrid or Bayern Munich but it will be delusional to say that we were ever rubbing shoulders against this teams. Today, we are in the same league. Not trophy-wise, I know but we are close infrastructure-wise and income-wise. The trophies will come as they have always done for teams with our current financial standing. Only a matter of time.

All through my life ManYoo have been a top club – even when they went down

All through my life Liverpool have been a top club – despite the fact that it is 20 years + since they won the title

All through my life Chelsea have not been a top club

Nothing to do with who was, or is, the manager – any more than it is to do with who will be the manager, nothing to do with money, nothing to do with 6.9 or 2.6

Top clubness is a characteristic that is earned, and once earned, is not likely given up

I am not very familiar with your style so I am not sure whether you are concurring or just being sarcastic. No one respects Arsenal’s history more than I do but I remain objective in my appraisal of the club.

My reference to the club’s standing pre-Wenger is not to denigrate but to bring in a sense of perspective that AW’s detractors lack in abundance. While I do not support the notion, I don’t object to those who whine about trophies as long as they are not talking like Arsenal had a regular trophy winning tradition that Wenger has come to destroy.

About 4th place and winning the league: well, we live in a different time and it is a time in which making top 4 has eclipsed winning the FA cup both financially and in terms of prestige. If we could use winning the FA cup as a substitute for making top 4 in the old format, then we might say we’ve been winning the FA cup since the Emirates was built.

We might not have been winning the league but we have been doing the 2nd most important thing in country football every season since the Emirates move. It is clearly not a trophy but for our particular financial circumstances, it is bigger than any trophy bar the EPL and the champions’ league trophy itself.

  35. Now that’s the kind of post I just love Proudkev, well done.

Facts are mighty things are they not? 6.9 is a 40 year fact; leaden, solid, a little grey; not at all embarrassing, wow, average 7th over 40 years is a sign of great club.

2.6 is a butterfly fact, it has wings, it flies. I did something similar a time ago for another site: included average goals conceded/scored/ratio; the trajectory is parallel to your average season position, but more emphasized, one can surmise in part because of the football Arsenal play, and in another part because of the new football technology.

They (trolls, village idiot Arsenal sites, mediocre “objective” sneering and fence-sitting Arsenal sites, mainstream media, comically idiotic pundits) have tried to stuff many fanciful fictions in our faces, and wonder when we say “We support Arsenal, and you?”

I do not agree with your assertion that AFC were not a top club pre Wenger (2.49)

That may however be more to do with your reliance upon what you regard as “objective” criteria in weighing what it top and what is not. I have a more flexible approach to top clubness. It is an essence at the core of a club, not dependent upon statistical record or calculation machinations.

Please do not take that as a criticism or a personal sleight, that is the way you see the club and football.

As I have said before on here I twist and torture figures all day to get them to tell me what I want to hear – football is so much better than that.

  38. Anicoll5, yes sorry missed the 1990 one, great spot!

The point I was trying to make is that those who wish ill of Wenger or seem unable to accept how he has changed the club are misguided and blinkered. Yes, we have always been a big club but we cannot describe our league finishes as consisitently good. they werent. For every top 4 finish we had, we had another bunch of finishes below 7 and several in the double figures.

Wenger has raised our expectation levels so much so that people complain about 3rd and 4th and want his head on a plate. Yet not only have we had much success, we have also built a 60,000 seater stadium with our own money and are now generating income that competes with Barca, Real, Man Utd and Bayern.

I am proud of what we have achieved and I am convinced that in future the Wenger years will be looked back as a very important period for our clubs growth and the future successes.

  42. It was what it was and it is what it is. We have made a gigantic leap forward in world football and its due mainly to AW & the ARSENAL BOARD and their collective vision that is surly becoming a reality. What’s more is we have taken a massive shortcut , time wise , to achieve this. But , we cannot objectivly compare times and the prevailing cultures of different eras if we are honest. Teams did what they had to and the players too where part of the landscape of football with their behaviors and diets. Does not take away anything from some of the accomplishments of my Heros of the past some of which are still with the club and doing their best to help get it to the next level. As I said before,I loved it then and I love it even more now. no matter the drinking and the partying and some other actions that really don’t fit with an sporting an athletic image. The class is still there and the tradition is as strong if not stronger. For what is worth and value we are the third most winning club I the nation with a lot cleaner history than most . And some of those players remain heros and outstanding talents even to this day. For the majority the symbiotic respect towards the club and its fans has always been there and given back in folds by the clubs. I don’t begrudge some what they say these days to survive in the dog eat dog world of punditry and media. I loved them for their talent on the pitch and still do. And that’s what a footballer aims for and if lucky with hard work achieves. A place in the hearts of fans for eternity.

equally the players at panathinaikos back then who brought the club to its ONLY european champions final i consider them a joke in comparison to todays footballers and couldnt even last 15 mins in todays game… when these ex players get involved in the running of the club today and talk shit and create tensions and ask for managers like henk ten kate (two champions league finals, one won, one lost on penalties) to get sacked, i laugh and tell them to get lost….

If l am going to be forceful with an opinion, then I always try to make sure I can back it up. Too much of the negativity thrown at our club has no foundation and is selective. If Arsene is to be criticised, as is completely acceptable, it should be done fairly and in a balanced way. As I am in my fifties, I can remember cold terraces, crap pitches and some pretty atrocious football. I feel I am able to reflect with a balanced view on the changes, not just within football in general but in our great football club. And I can acknowledge the strides the club has made in maintaining its traditions and its class and how we are now placed in a position for the club to be a major force in European football. I recognise mistakes Arsene and the club has made but at the same time I am happy to offset these against the successes. The detractors are either unable or unwilling to do this.

You have managed to encapsulate a lot of the unfortunate attitudes that are now becoming endemic on so many sites, and cleverly clothed your exposé in humour that hides the stiletto of truth.

I am about to make a confession that might consign me to the ‘moderator’s bin, but can I say that there are people like me who do not belong to any group. I intensely dislike acronyms and can only see myself as an Arsenal supporter.

    That is it really.

Wenger is the best manager we have ever had. In 60 years time the history of Arsenal will state that boldly, and no one will raise an eye at a statement of fact.

On the blogsite ‘Arsenal Arsenal’ today, there is a Post written by someone (dandan) some years ago, and repeated today to commemorate his death a couple of weeks ago, and if it does not bring a lump to the throat of all Gooners who read it, well ……

He was clearly a dyed in the wool Arsenal man, and would be very much at home on a positive Arsenal blog, and he had no time for negativity in whatever guise.

Now that Post sums up my idea of what a fan is all about.

  50. Hay KEV. I don’t disagree with the majority of what has been said on the subject and I think we can come up with better more tactful methods of putting detractors and moaners in their place. It should not come at the cost of losing our pride in what ARSENAL was but in certain hope that it is going to top past achievements with better ones in the future. I grew up watching BRADY, NICHOLES, MCCLINTOCK, WRIGHT, ADAMS, KEOWEN & SEAMEN. I looked up to them and still do. Amongst others of more recent era BOBBY, PATRICK, HENRY & BERGKAMP. they all did their best for the ARSENAL and if they weren’t as good technically and pace wise they compensated with will of steel and an attitude of never letting the other guy get the better of them. You didn’t mess with the ARSENAL or you were thought a lesson. My memories are still intact. We have gained in some areas and we have given in some others. Today’s ARSENAL should be and is the pride of all true supporters. No one takes the delusional fans with unreal expectations seriously anyways. That said yesterdays ARSENAL still lives in our memories too and it also is a source for pride and great great memories.
