  6. Am I alone in feeling upbeat and positive about Arsenal (and life too) today? I simply have no Arsenal worries, although our performance against Everton was wretched, but you know … well done Everton, better them than some others. We are fine, doing a job and I am immensely enjoying this adventuresome and drama-packed season, again.

  8. Excellent piece covering most of what rational people know to be the case. Some people will never search for the truth and will believe whatever the media tells them. It is why we had had such disasters throughout history and why governments can go to war whenever they want. Unfortunately there are alot of apathetic souls who will always follow what’s easiest to believe however like sheep they will hang stripped and blooded in the slaughter houses of the world.

  10. Arsenal have won 19 league games so far, lost 7 and have 5 winnable games to go.
This season has been part of the upward improvement over the last 4 years.
The last time we were close to achieving anything decent in the league was 2008 and the Eduardo incident really damaged us, coupled with some outrageously devised draws to finish us off.
    Now, to read Beck’s article.

  11. An all-encompassing piece. Nice one Becks (via PG).
Can’t deny feeling quite hollow after Everton but the notion of falling in with the nitwits was never on the cards.
Whenever AW chooses to leave, we must make sure he leaves on a high.
It is the very least the great man deserves.
    Hopefully after the Qatar WC!

    Wigan’s up next

  13. Good Afternoon Positivsitas – and a sun-shining blue-skied Norfolk sky out of my window beckons toward a memorable weekend.

Now after the somewhat downbeat week we have had after Sunday’s little <> ‘setback’ at Goodison I have to admit by batteries have been a little low this week. Even Bayern swatting the Mancs with their expected certainty only brought a pale glow to my cheeks by Wednesday.

Last night I perked up a bit more having watched two halves of football, the first from Sevilla v Porto followed by the second half and extra time of Valencia Basel. Both Spanish sides played fast, short passing football, the energy they had with the ball, and when trying to get it back was exceptional. And they capped it with some deadly, deadly finishing. Both looked a step ahead of any PL teams at the moment. And people over here sniff at the Europa Cup – fools – Brilliant football.

Suitably restored I look forward to the trip to Wembley tomorrow. Although the groaners would prefer not to recognise the fact we have had a hard set of fixtures to get to this stage and never in any game have we faltered. We have earned our place. The sam players and manager who are cursed relentlessly by the banner wielding “black scarved scum”, as they are known, have given us all this trip that 88 other clubs in the English professional league wish the were making tomorrow plus most if not every one of those clubs supporters.

The Latics will be no pushovers, fair enough. But I suspect we have a little more of the fast, short passing football that enthralled me on Thursday night will be on show tomorrow afternoon. We shall out-football them. The energy we have in reserves, and have not slowed despite a heavy few weeks. It is just the day for the deadly , deadly finishing to emerge again. Poldi, Olivier, Tomas, Santi, Ox, Aaron, Mikel you have your jobs to do.

    Get to it.

  15. Hi all

I’ve been very much preoccupied with matters professional this last week. I’ve not been very chirpy either after our performance last week. Is this down to injuries? I think so. But the sun is shining and I aml confident we will win tomorrow. We will go on and secure CL football for next season and we will win the FA cup. And, this is the beginning of a very exciting future for AFC. It is and the if doomers can fuck off…..

  17. PG, Emirates Airlines paid £42 millions upfront to help finance the Emirates Stadium! The first naming rights expire in 2021. The current deal runs until 2031.

It would seem to me that £5 millions, will cover the naming rights from 2021 to 2031. The payment will not be upfront, either.

Compare that with the Wembley Stadium financial shortfall.

Mr Wenger, should put the Mars bars, back into the coach! Better still, leave it to Steve Bould.

I would drop that Spanish geezer, for being defeatist. We need ALL the players to be on their game. WE WILL support you, so gird up your loins and stop Wigan touching the ball, unless it is a goal for The Arsenal. Wigan can then kick-off, to let The Arsenal score again.

  19. Semi-final today, eh.

Oh, Wigan’s going to do ‘it’ today – the late tackles, off the ball fouls, all the lovely ‘tactics’ that work so well against Arsenal. And Mike Oliver will let them. Everything is more difficult for Arsenal than the other clubs. The real test for Arsenal is to prove what does not destroy you makes you stronger, but will the team prevail over such adversity.

In England, with the types of referee in charge tonight, with the organisation behind that referee, with the media coverage and the institutional behaviour of English football, Arsenal is the Underdog. Battered the whole season, attacked from every corner, shown no quarter.

But I am not making excuses. I am highlighting facts. The players need to step up. Come on BFG, Sagna, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, come on boys, step the fuck up and throw down these upstarts. Arsenal have the opportunity to become footballing royalty in the seasons ahead, but it starts today. The manager can coach, the coaches can teach, the referees can cheat, the opposition can kick. But at the end of the line, the players are powerful enough to overcome, they need only wake up and realise their strength and their worth.

Hurt them, destroy Wigan and demoralise that cheating referee. Send them north quivering, for the temerity of considering themselves equals. Right now, today, in this game, show the arrogance of champions!

  21. Good morning and COYG , generally there seems to be a lot of positivity around this morning and the doomers are being told to be quiet by all those who want to enjoy the day out. I’m just trying to wake myself up after watching the Harlem Globetrotters at Wembley last night and getting ready to go back and watch the footballing equivalent today. I know I’m going to be nervous but I always have been in every final and semi ARSENAL have ever been in. A good win today and we can certainly look forward to a glorious end to the season so once again COYG

  22. Sav, can you send those rallying words to the players please? I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves at the moment and hoping the former is the more prevailing feeling than the latter as we get closer to kick off. I want to just enjoy the day out, and hope that as supporters we can transmit quiet confidence to the team rather than crippling them with our anxieties. So far this season they have really stepped up in this competition and I hope they can step up again today and do themselves justice. Come on you rip roaring red & whites!
