A Battling Three Points for Arsenal

A hard-fought 3 points or what?

I saw people complaining that it was a poor performance. Really? Was it?

I don’t know what people were expecting, but the pitch was painfully slow and uneven. That’s not the sort of pitch that allows a quick passing game to be played.

Palace gave everything, running themselves to a standstill, almost.

I can’t understand why it’s a crime to credit the opposition for their effort and endeavour, rather than blaming our own players .

The deadlock was broken just after half-time when a bit of skill by Gnabry brought about a spot-kick. Of course, everyone blamed the defender and ignored the skill of the attacker.

Mikel lashed in the penalty and it looked like it would be a comfortable second half as we began to make more openings.

Not to be though. A hopeful punt up the field arrived at Chamakh’s feet. Mikel challenged for it  and, as far as I could see, Marouane veered across Mikel’s path causing a tangle of legs. Never a red card in a month of Sundays.

So, down to ten men, the tactically inept Arséne Wenger made some changes. On came Jack for the substitute Gnarby.

Jack took up the position at which he played his full debut season. This was worrying for me because he had a dreadful night on Tuesday and could not find a teammate with the simplest of passes.

Naturally, Jack proved me an idiot as he was superb .

Its was a great defensive performance by everyone concerned. Not least by our young goalkeeper, who pulled off two magnificent saves within seconds of each other. He is going from strength to strength.

We wrapped it up close to full time with a beautiful link up between Aaron and our other goal and assist machine; Giroud.

Some other points of note were; Santi was average, Sagna was magnificent and Monreal is the unluckiest player in the league that he does not get starts.

    Ahem (cough) me for one.
After our Far East tour and before we started the season, and before Özil.
I think Passeral, Hunter and PG also let the blood rush to their heads.
    .
My optimism was based on a fully fit squad with Ox, Ploders and Diaby available.
I’m still hopelessly optimistic, although November will be a harsh month, but April is the cruelest.

Usually Jack now has 3 opposition players between him and the ball these days.
He seems to run into the traffic, however my take on it us that he is targeted because he is a bit slower releasing the ball and the opposition try to catch him with the ball and win it back.

  13. i think they target him expecting him to snap and retaliate….dark arts

expect ou to come out in awhile ridiculing wenger and our trophyless years

i expect our players to reply …even if he never says anything like that.

    Happy birthday Bobby Pires.
When he told Real Madrid to fark orf in order to move to The Arsenal I was most happy. That AW signs players (every year no less!) did not fit the sadomasochistic narrative that the idiots and the weak willed tried to force upon everyone this summer, but clearly that was a bigger signing then when DB10 turned up. Controversial? I don’t think so. Bobby already had some baubles and was a wanted player. Madrid in 2000 were not bad!

I wonder what Slur Alex would’ve made of Pires’ gait? I bet he hated the sight of the waddling winger.

The Boss said that Frimpong was not playing enough competitive football….
Read into that what you wish.
If he is not in C1C squads, I can’t see a future for him in Arsenal, not after signing up Flamini for 4 years.
Frimmy was sent back early from his last loan-out to Charlton, apparently for attitude problems. I’ve said before, I would send him on loan to Ipswich and let Mick McCarthy sort him out – they have a good relationship from Frimmy’s spell at Wolves.

  46. Speaking of wingers Ryo gets an outing with Hayden tonight. Pace!

Ryo will be up against the Spanish RB whose name begins with A. Finally he’s fit, both Ryo and the Chelsea RB will be a little rusty.
AW also mentioned that Gnabry might be niggled, which would be annoying. And with Zelalem out too I think it’s fair to curse the foul names of the injury gods. Again.
Who could play on the right if Gnabry is out? I’d like to see Akpom!

I hope the rumours from the Mirror of Rambo starting are rubbish, but with U21s injured it is feasible that he will play. Same rumours have Kozza in for Per. And of course we have the luxury of being able to play Rosicky in this game. Tough times indeed.

It must have taken some effort from the reliable hacks to ignore the Chelski squad list and believe the threat from the Happy One to play his U21s. Against Arsene. Yeah. A likely scenario.

    Hunter, get well soon.
