In Depth Fixture Analysis.

Well the fixtures are out.

I have spent all morning studying them very closely and have noticed we play each team twice .

Not only that but the FA seem to have fixed it that we don’t play ANY of our rivals twice at home.SMH.

Despite this clear bias against us I think if we win most games, draw a few and lose hardly any,we could have a good season.

  1. I also think if we sign a few players and let a few go-that’ll help. I’ve just double checked and George is right, we definetly play all the teams twice, home & away in fact. My sources have revealed that there could well be some cup games as well, I just waiting for my mates sisters boyfriend to confirm that-he fixed a photo-copier in highbury house a couple of months ago. (Taps nose).

  2. This is probably the best of your blogs so far. I agree with the bias against us. It’s a shame with all the away games after Mid-week CL matches (if we qualify).. Other than that the first 9-10 games looks good!

  7. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed our fixtures seem to be difficult in February and March, right around the time of the second phase of the Champions league?

Season after season this seems to be the case? And I thought the fixtures were random?

    Consistently random.

  17. Don’t be upset PG. I have some rare gr*t to share.

A friend found himself chewing some gr*t with your (genuinely) favourite plundit* and the plundit agrees with you:
Fellani does not compute, considering he has played best as an AM? But then some Evertonians have said that he has written a good D**M for them in his time there. Based upon their recent visit he’d be lucky to survive most games without two yellows at Arsenal unless he is as savvy with the refs as The Prince. Few are.

So, in conclusion, I have nothing to add. : )

*No guesses, there aren’t many contenders.

  19. Great post George – succinct, to the point and no extraneous opinions. I like it!

Finsbury, I’m not in the guessing game, but I agree – The thuggery that Fellaini gets away with at Everton would not be allowed if he played for AFC – that’s what the doomers seem to overlook.

DC, keeping our current team would be the best business we could do this year. The drain of the last few years has been devastating.

  23. Latest betting odds on Arsenal:
win the EPL 11/1 possibly worth an each way bet.
Win UCL 25/1 worse odds than Chavez, shitty and Manure!!

This is the best bet, in fact looks like giving us money:
a Top 4 finish is 4/7. we should be a racing certainty for at least that this season, I’m having some of that free money from the bookies.

One for the doomers – no Trophy is at 4/11.

I just found out Kos’s agent is Stephane Courbis, if that name is not familiar, it should be – he was Adebayor’s agent.

  25. Deep analysis and penetrating insight George! You’ve really nailed this football blogging lark! All you’ve left to say about our upcoming season is that if we score more a d concede less than our rivals, we stand a very good chance of meeting that target of winning most, drawing a few and hardly losing our games. I came up with that key target myself, sitting quietly, concentrating intently in a darkened room trying to channel the tactical spirit of Herbert Chapman.

“Finsbury, I’m not in the guessing game…”
True. I’ve been busy enjoying the Ashes build up*. IfArsenal sign players, cool, if not, cool. There were some comments by AW last season on the Everton midfielder that left me curious. But who knows? Not me. It was interesting to remember how the 07/08 midfield played, comparing it to the later line up that often had Song & Diaby.

*The, er, the fisticuffs. The ICC trophy. Thee wider appreciation of Jimmy Anderson’s top top quality. A player plucked from obscurity at a young age by good coaches who spotted an unpolished talent that was worth nurturing, and we can all appreciate the results today. Very few players have silly talent like the Shane Warnes or Wasim Akrams of this world, most need to work at it! The sight of an Aussie squad that has completely lost momentum, the appreciation of the work done in N.London that has kept Arsenal’s momentum going forward through some tough times.

  40. Should clarify: As far as I could tell the big difference between the midfield in 07/08 and the one that followed was the loss of one Master Mozart (one of those senior players brought in to help mentor the nippers, along with Sagna etc. a history that the obsessive compulsive WOBs have ignored in their revised past) .
Those green rookies did pretty damn well in 08/09, helping their squad to finish higher that season then the glorified spudites to come such as Parker, Bale of Nazuruth, Sandro, the rest.

the second half seems difficult but same for our rivals. this season may see us going through the season unbeaten. COYG!

  42. I think that’s a good start to the season for us. It does mean there’s a bit of big-game congestion later on, particularly February and March, but if last season is anything to go by we will get stronger as time goes on once the new signings are settled.

And speaking of new players settling in, our player of the season Cazorla was bought (well, announced) on the 7th of August with our first game on the 18th. When you find the perfect players they hit the ground running.

  43. The problems with stareing at a fixture list and summizing outcomes at this stage are many. Look at the first game a sure 3 points or a team who finished well last season and were maturing all the time, a team who have already added to their squad and a team who were the first to score at the emms. Every fixture is tainted by injuries, form and games both prior and post. The main thing is we continue our end of season form and reverse our poor form against the top three teams.
