Victory Through Harmony Is The Way Forward By Red Henry

What counts more in a football team? Is it the quality of the players? The manager? The playing system? Stable ownership? The fans? Which one? All of them?

Of course the answer is all of them how does each of the above measure in relation ?

If someone attempted to add up all the parameters, that’s after multiplying each parameter with a gravity coefficient factor, he/she’d most likely not conclude the equation, because simply the factors used would feel random, spontaneous and not very serious. What does “good ” player mean? What is a “good” manager and what is a “good” system? Does strong ownership also mean successful ownership? How does the fan help the team achieve VICTORY?

On to ours then, we need to let go of the dichotomy over ownership matters or managerial matters or players matters or formation matters. We need to stop comparing the era of riches (1998-2006) with the period of “saving” going on the past 7 years ( if more) and look straight at the truth.

Good players are those who offer a positive to the team and the cause.

A good manager is one who gives to players the opportunity to offer to the cause of the team.

A good system is the manager’s medium that will enable the players to produce deliver and excel.

For there to be an efficient system there needs to be planning. For this planning to exist you must have a director/owner hierarchy, a board, that supports the manager, and has the financial convenience to also support the manager’s choices,in a depth of time and not knee-jerk and short-term.

For all this to work though the team also needs the fans on their side. None of this can happen without the support faith and belief of the Arsenal crowd. It doesn’t matter what you have but how you combine what you have with HARMONY.

We get bombarded about tactics, about being weak as a system, that we don’t press or play high enough or deep enough or sideways enough or this and that.

We read about players constantly , expensive and cheap, about managers who can do better and not, and so on .

I have realised after many years that its all a bunch of crap really.

Ive seen players who have come from the unknowns and have become legends, players who were expensive purchases flopping miserably, coaches who didn’t exactly fill you with confidence going on and winning the lot, or leaving a mark behind imprinted in the memories of fans forever and other managers with high profile CV’s destroying whole teams in the space of weeks.

why all this?

Because the public wants “titles” that’s why.

Because the pressure from people to win trophies has become unbearable, they want instant results, hungry for titles.

Fair enough, but such mentality wont lead us anywhere. The fans of Arsenal need to stop looking at the past 7 years with scorn and hate for the lack of silverware and concentrate, as noted earlier, in becoming the factor that will push the team FORWARD for years to come

  1. It should not be asking to much for ALL fans to get behind the team for at least the next 4 games.
They then have all Summer to tell the club what they want as customers.

  13. Problem is, Arsenal have less supporters but more and more costumers as you said. It’s all about what the costumer wants, because he’s paying £70 a year for a shirt you see. So just give him the stars, the victory, the glory and the fucking trophies !
    How sad.

  14. Interesting piece Red Henry and comments right on target in relation to the necessity of a club, its players, officials and supporters all working together and trusting one another in order to perform to their very best.

A particularly pertinent analysis if one looked at the disintegration of Citeh yesterday, a club who have no excuses at all in relation to resources, or experience of players, coaches and manager.

  18. With “in Mammon, we trust” as the slogan of the times, is there any desire higher than orgasmic-high of winning a shiny silver trophy?

Forget the Arse for a second, lets ask Swansea, Birmingham & Portsmouth.
Seems even Roberto Martinez has fallen for it, ending their great escapes.

Its been a great education, these last “few” years.

  23. Interesting article and comments.

One wonders what the ‘customers’ of the Blue Mancs made of yesterday’s ‘performance’? Had the hallmarks of a squad with one foot on the aircraft steps waiting to take them off on their hols. Talk about going backwards. Very disappointing but they still look as they have largely always done – less a team rather than a loose collection of overpaid millionaires. One imagines Mancini is history.

  29. Parameters? We’ve been shit all year yet we are sitting in third, a hairs length away from the most expensively assembled team in the history of the sport and right above the previous holders of that title. How you like me now?

As far as the customer/supporter, someone should tell them that acting like an old lady at a returns counter doesn’t help their cause. Patience, you fucking idiots. Look at Chelsea and the oily Mancs, sure, they’ve competed for a few tin cups here and there, but they’re pretty much back where they were before they were financially doped. Can they build up and become powerhouses again? Not really. Rainieri built the foundation of the Chelsea squad which won trophies under Mourinho and, now that those players are getting older, they don’t look to be getting back to their former glory days. The Manchester Oilers, didn’t even last a season as defending Champions before crumbling apart. Let us not forget that with all their money they haven’t made it past the group stage of the CL yet. So yeah, Wenger is past it and what not, yet here we are, standing strong amid the grossest examples of financial doping thanks to our scouting and the manager’s tactical brilliance. Oh, and at a third of the cost.

  38. Since it’s kind of a tradition, we would look like the stuck-up child in the playground that doesn’t want to play with the other kids if we refuse them the guard of honour. Obviously it’s made worse by the Dutch boy appearing in it, but I think the player and manager should do it, while the fans ensure that everyone knows what we think about it.

  39. If ManU manage to win tonight, I see no problem in offering them a “guard of honour” – in the sure certain knowledge that they’ll be doing the same for us in the not-too-distant future.

  40. Well guard of honour or no guard of honour our players should have a competition to see how many of their players they can bite as they go past. Give them a fair chance and have hands behind backs. Drawing blood gets extra points. Could be quite a spectacle for us next Sunday…bit like 28 weeks later.

  42. Nice on Red Henry!

I’m really proud of the performances of the team of late, so much collective determination and spirit. Can’t ask for anything more.

What has amused me most about this here Suarez gate (part 2), has been the predictable mock indignation from football’s self appointed great and good. Oh and, er, Jamie Redknapp. It’s ok to break some poor bastard’s leg, then they can trot out the usual he’s “not the type of lad, loves his mum etc etc”, and quickly move on. Actually it was less of a bite, more of a nip, and with those bloody nashers lil’ Luis could have done some serious damage if he’d meant to. Bizarre behaviour I’ll grant you, but really not worthy of all the hyperbole that has followed.

The guard of honour thang I could give two f*cks about. Let’s hope we give them a game and get the points that are important for Arsenal.

    @ Evil
If the players have to form a guard of honour, I think the fans should chat amongst themselves and read their programmes. Studied indifference is the biggest insult of all, I feel.
And the only thing worse than a guard of honour will be if they win the title at our place. So come on Arsenal! (in advance)
