Dominant But Profligate.

Morning positives.

I really enjoyed that game. To go away in the champions league and totally dominate is impressive, especially against a team like Napoli.

On the face of it ,it looks like a hard fought 1-0 close encounter, but it was anything but that. It could and should have been a cricket score.

Xg Napoli (0.21) 0-1 (4.31) Arsenal, massive, and live, it looked ever more than that.

From memory, Saka, Noni, Hincapie and Merino all missed when it looked difficult to do so. Now although at the time I was screaming at them, a more considered view is that this is an anomaly. Against Chelsea we had 26 efforts on goal and every single one of them was on target. That too was an anomaly, but had that anomaly happened last night we would have been in double figures. So I’m not concerned , it will level out over time.

I thought that Saka, Eze and Gyokeres could have done better, but none of them were what I would say “poor”.

The general play was dominant, inventive and relentless. We look to be going from strength to strength, it’s all very enjoyable and I’m going to soak it all up while it lasts.

Don’t forget that the starting eleven was perhaps missing eight of our “best eleven” players.

Pedantic George.

  1. Afternoon George, nice write up. Do you think Big Vik a bit starved? Would like to see him and Tzolis on the pitch at the same time…nice goal from Martin.

I saw some Napoli fans and their recations, was pretty interesting watch them keep cool heads, knowing what they have and being aware the the beginning is neither the middle or the end. COYG!

  2. Yep, nice write up George,

Actually, it is amazing that we’re even in a position to not have to start our strongest considered eleven away in the champions League. Then for that eleven to dominate that much is a testament to how far we have come.

Mills, I always think big Vic never gets the service he deserves. He is always on the move and makes lots of runs but we just don’t seem to look for him. I am beginning to worry the styles don’t match.

  3. its odd with Gyokeres, we seem to put in the balls he would like when Havertz is there, but Kai doesn’t make those runs to the middle of the box, but we starve Gyokeres of the balls he needs. That Saka so often ignores the pass to him is akin to when Alexis was here and he would not give it to Giroud. Maybe its just their styles don’t click or that they give it to others they rate higher. Who knows.
