ARSENAL SUMMER TIME!

Well the season be over (for good and bad) and now we’re headed off to the beach to be baked by the sun-hot speculation of the transfer- market arrivals, whilst surfing the waves whilst wondering who will barrel-over and depart.

The fixtures for the new season will be released on the 18 of June at 10am (WET). The Mighty Cannon is back in action on the 23rd of July against AC Milan, kick off 12.30pm western European time, we then play Newcastle and the Spuds in the following days.

The Charity shield between Palace and Liverpool is on the 9th of August.

Take care of yourselves and have a great summer. Its odd that we don’t wish each other any kind of happiness/greatness in any other season?

COYG!

  2. seems we are also getting Gyokeres, the likes of Ornstein has said the deal is all but done, for a maximum fee of €80m, an initial €65m, with very achievable bonus payments of up to €15m, which all translates to about £56M fee with add on’s bringing it up to just under £70M

I am a big fan of Gyokeres, I remember how he stood out in the highlights almost weekly in his time at Coventry, where he scored 40 goals in 2 seasons before his move to Sporting. I watched a fair few Coventry games in the second half of the 22/23 season cos Brooke Norton-Cuffy was on loan with them from Arsenal. Gyokeres scored a load of goals, some of the very highest quality, and I really was shocked that no EPL club snapped him up back then, especially as his fee was under £20M, Coventry get about 10% of his sell on fee.

just to point out he scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season, and he also has netted 10 goals in his last 7 International games for Sweden

  4. seen two big Arsenal twitter accounts both go with the line that Arsenal should sell Nwaneri as we need to make room for Max Dowman (15 years old) in the squad and we can’t have more than a couple of young players in the squad, so sell him. Have to laugh at these clowns, but I do fear that it might be something fed to them from the club, throw it out there and see what way the fan base react

  5. It is really strange that by the time the modern new signings arrive it’s a real anti climax. I really like Zubimendi but I’m really bored with the news already.

  6. its the media age we live in, there are so few transfers that come out of the blue, for any club, there are so many people involved in deals now on all sides and there are always a few who will tell someone who will in turn post it on twitter etc. Also what is not known is claimed anyway and any big club will be linked to 100 to 200 players each summer, so some will happen even if those that predicted it made it up.

Agents and clubs use the media now to get what they want, to unsettle players, to let clubs know that their player/client might be available, what sort of fee, what sort of wages, means they don’t have to go contacting clubs, which only weakens thier negotiating position.

Don’t think its possible to have a Sol Campbell transfer anymore, but do remember even back then the real out of the blue transfer was as rare as hen’s teeth.

It was only back in the late 90’s that agents became a thing, I remember in the George Graham era at AFC players were often helped with contract talks by someone from the selling club, they would be advised to hire a solicitor to oversee the contract end of it, but that was basically it. What happened then was that a number of solicitors realised that there was money to be made representing players in not only contract talks, but in the whole transfer deal, and oh boy have they made money from it.

  7. the first of the Arsenal first team players returned today, with many more returning to the club in the coming days. Our first preseason game is 17 days away. The club will do some training at London Colney before going on a short training camp, I think in Spain, before heading on the preseason tour.

  16. 21 year old goalie Remy Mitchell seems to have rejoined Arsenal, he took part in the Academy Players photo shoot yesterday, he left Arsenal 3 years ago for Swansea and has played for a couple of non league sides since and seemingly starred in a six a side league earlier this year.

With Setford possibly going on loan to Stevenage for the season, and Nygard wanted by a couple of clubs in Denmark on loan for the season it might explain why Arsenal have brought back Mitchell.

Despite having been offered new contracts Dan Casey and Michal Rosiak not involved in the photo shoot and they are not currently training with Arsenal so it looks like both may be leaving, and really I could not blame either of them. Casey was outstanding for the U18’s last season, he was top scorer despite playing in midfield yet he didn’t get a look in with the U21’s while even some schoolboy players got game time. And Rosiak who is a free kick specialist and is comfortable at right back and in midfield seen Partey used as an emergency right back on several occasions and he didn’t get a look in.

A rumor doing the rounds is that Crystal Palace have asked for one of our young defenders as a sweetner in our pursuit of Eze, the way the article is worded it seems its possible that the defender in question is either right back Josh Nicholls or central defender Maldini Kaccuri. Don’t think anyone would be upset if that is what it takes to get the Eze deal over the line. Now the defender in question could be Kiwior, and for me that would be a mistake to let him go. I can see why CP would want him.

  20. Olivia Smith is set to be announced as the latest signing for the Women’s team.

The feeling is expected to be a million pounds, the first million pound transfer in the woman’s game.

The landmark takes me back to Trevor Francis breaking the mens million pound barrier when he moved from Birmingham to Forrest under the brilliant Brian Clough.

I think that was early eighties and just look how mens transfers have spiralled since.

if she signs she will be second liverpool player we signed this week, with Hinds having signed once her contract expired

  22. seems Arsenal have agreed a £50M deal for Noni Madueke from Chelsea, would be a great addition if its true that he is seen as a back up option to Saka, he is only 23, has 7 caps for England and scored 11 goals for cfc last season

  30. From Fabio Romano,

Understand Arsenal have made progress in the recent days for Ethan Nwaneri’s new deal. The club has presented vision/project for Nwaneri in the upcoming years including discussions on game time.Arsenal hopeful to get green light and sign new contract soon.

I thought all the ITK’s and media including Sky were saying that all the top clubs in Europe were after Ethan and he wouldn’t sign a new deal, which is why we were looking at so many forwards.

I must admit because of the same noises were coming from so many different sources I totally believed he wouldn’t sign a new deal. I’ll be chuffed if he stays and Mikel does let him develop into a first team regular.

  32. ian I still think that if Nwaneri is to get the game time that he will require to become a top level first choice player for us he would be best advised to go on a season long loan to say a Brentford, or West Ham type club

  33. seems the Gyokeres transfer is getting messy, he failed to turn up for preseason training at Sporting today and the club say they will fine him and keep fining him if he does not return. The player is adamant that he will not return cos Sporting are not honoring a verbal agreement he has with them over a transfer fee.

Anyone remember when Arsenal made a move for the De Boer twins from Ajax and they went on strike and then took legal action against Ajax over a verbal agreement they had about being allowed leave if a major fee was offered, and Arsenal pulled out of any transfer cos Wenger did not agree with their actions, they ended up going to Barcelona

  36. seen it reported today that Michal Rosiak was at that U21 game today but that he has left Arsenal after what was described as an insulting contract offer from Arsenal.

it does seem odd that we prefer to let so many players leave for free instead of developing them to the point where we can get good fees for them, like how man city and chelsea operate their academies

  37. Right on the money Ed, our financial management of players from old to young seems farcical.

Arteta is the most financially backed manager in the history of the club (even more than when we were called the bank of England club) and yet we seem to continually fail to get the best return on our assets.

This all started when the finances were taken away from Arsene and the various Directors of football came in, Edu being a major player in alot of those errors.

To date, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin still remains our biggest sale at £35 million. A very small sum when compared to other clubs. Our total sales are never very much each season either.

Maybe the hierarchy at the club watched the film money ball backwards.

  38. well ian so far this summer Neto, Tomiyasu, Partey, Tierney, Sterling and Jorginho have all left for the grand sum of £0

reports suggest that Rosiak is one of several academy players who have left AFC due to the lowball contract offers made to them. And on that topic I seen it claimed that the reason the academy is lowballing our players and also missing out on many academy players we have tried to sign from other clubs due to less than stellar contract offers, is cos of the mega contracts we have given Dowman and Nwaneri to stay, I have no idea if this is true, but for two years now we have been told that the club had given the Academy major funds to go out and get the best available Academy players from other clubs, and we have failed massively to do this, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool are all beating us to the signing of young players. Even taking players from us. I would suggest our Academy model is not working the way it is meant to, after all Per Mertesacker is on record several times in stating that the Academy is not only there to provide the first team with the Lewis-Skelly’s, Nwaneri’s, Dowman’s of this world but is there to produce players good enough to bring in multi million pound transfer fees. but what we have is players turning down the low ball contract offers and leaving for free.

  39. what fees will we get for Nelson, Lokonga, Vieira and Hein if we manager to sell them this summer. By the way Lokonga tweeted earlier in the week about extra effort or something and some take it as that he is being given another chance to restart his AFC career, I really can’t see it, we’ve just signed two new players for CM, he aint getting game time here.

  40. Ornstein saying there has been movement in the Viktor Gyokeres deal and ARSENAL are in the process of completing the transfer. Personal terms agreed so medical then announcement in the coming days.

Noni is already in London for his medical.

Copley signed his first Professional contract today.

So with 49 days of the window still to go, expect another 49 announcements of youth contracts, Woman’s contracts, players out and players in.

A far cry from the one signing a summer in my day. One signing but how excited we were.

  41. yeah Ian several journos including Ornstein now basically saying deal agreed and Gyokeres will be an Arsenal player this week, as will Madueke, and it seems Mosquera might very well join us this week from Valencia.

on the opposite side of that there are reports this evening that Karl Hein is set to join Seville and that Reiss Nelson is on his way out of Arsenal, well with Noni signing he aint going to get a look it here. It seems Fulham might be the club in for him.

  42. David Ornstein just tweeted this

Agreement in principle reached for Viktor Gyokeres move from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal. Deal worth €63.5m guaranteed + €10m add-ons & Sweden striker’s representative waives fee to help facilitate 27yo making switch

  43. so looks like Gyokeres is certain to be a Gooner very soon, which will see us have as CF options Havertz, Gyokeres, Jesus

with Madueke set to be back up to Saka at right wing, the big question is will we get an upgrade for our left wing options which are currently Martinelli and Trossard. Will we sell one of them, is Rodrygo a possible signing there, would he be an upgrade starter, Ornstein keeps mentioning Gordon as a possible target for us there.

Midfield options look a bit like this

    Zumbimendi – Norgaard

    Rice – Merino

Odegaard – Nwaneri, but we are being strongly linked with a move for Eze, so I’m not sure where that would leave Nwaneri in the pecking order

we currently also have Vieira, Nelson and Lokonga on our books as options for midfield and the wing, but I fully expect all 3 to be gone before the end of the window.

Goalkeeper is well covered with Raya and Kepa, I do expect Hein to be sold, and we might see one of the many young keepers as 3rd choice, maybe Remy Mitchell if he has as reported resigned for the club

right back has White and Timber

left back has Lewis-Skelly and Calafiori, with Zinchenko a possible option to be sold. We are linked to Hato who can play left back or left CB

CB has Saliba, Gabriel and Kiwior, with us in talks to sign Mosquera, those four would be a strong set of options.

Something I see more and more from several of the big Arsenal twitter guys is them have Dowman as a legit option for game time, and I mean real game time, but for me this is madness, an untried 15 year old that may very well turn out to be the best player in the world some day soon, but he could just as easily never fulfill his potential, we don’t know and you never can with any 15 year old. But with the signings we are clearly making, and if Nwaneri is signing a new contract, and we do manage to get Eze, where is Nwaneri going to get his minutes, let a lone 15 year old Dowman.
