Well the season be over (for good and bad) and now we’re headed off to the beach to be baked by the sun-hot speculation of the transfer- market arrivals, whilst surfing the waves whilst wondering who will barrel-over and depart.
The fixtures for the new season will be released on the 18 of June at 10am (WET). The Mighty Cannon is back in action on the 23rd of July against AC Milan, kick off 12.30pm western European time, we then play Newcastle and the Spuds in the following days.
The Charity shield between Palace and Liverpool is on the 9th of August.
Take care of yourselves and have a great summer. Its odd that we don’t wish each other any kind of happiness/greatness in any other season?
COYG!
If anyone wants to do a post over the Summer, just let me know.

They might get a game with Man U cause Man U really are pooo.
I have tried to be critical on Arteta on this issue before.
I wanted Hutchinson to be given a chance and we sold him to Chelsea and also Duberry I thought might have a chance.
To be honest Hutchinson was sold on by Chelsea and I have no idea if Duberry is still at Brighton. Maybe they may come good maybe not.
Niketiah not been a starter at crystal palace, Smith -Rowe in and out of the team shows me it’s not a guarantee any of these players go on to do better at lesser clubs. Time will tell I guess.
i will give credit for to him for bringing through Nwaneri and skelly though, see what happens with Dowman and hoping he gives Marli Salmon some time.

Another season of youngsters training with the first team, being on the bench time and time again only to be released at the end of the season.
I understand a place in the squad is taken up by all those who have turned 21 but what’s the point in including those and the likes of Sterling in the last games.

While the intention was to spend big this summer that was obviously intended on the three major signings.
The problem is that the first eleven wasn’t the biggest problem last season, it was the squad.
The small to middling signings are going to be very important but I’m not holding my breath that we won’t end up in the same position as we were at the start of last season.

Arsenal are said to be considering Chelsea goalie Kepa Arrizabalaga (30), who has a release clause of £5M, for the role of back up keeper to Raya, he is after having a fine season on loan with Bournemouth, he joined CFC in 2018 for over £70M

so David Ornstein reports that Arsenal are close to signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for his release clause of £5M, he remains the most expensive Goalkeeper of all time with CFC having paid just under £72M for him in 2018, and if he signs Arsenal will have the most expensive keeper and Raya the 8th most expensive keeper.
For me this move makes far more sense than spending the £25M that is reported to be the fee for Joan Garcia

Ornstein also reports that Arsenal want to sign a right sided CB, possibly another left back as Tierney is gone and Zinchenko is for sale. He says AFC are bringing in Zubimendi but also want Partey to sign a new deal, but if he does not then we’d want another CM too, back up for Saka wanted and first choice signings for both left wing and CF. He also stated that Sane is seen as a possible squad signing too.
The big question is who will sign the likes of Vieira, Nelson, Lokonga, and of course Zinchenko. Hein is likely off too. And if we sign those first choice forwards and back ups then surely at least one of Martinelli or Trossard would be off, and of course Jesus would not be wanted either, but like Tomiyasu he is injured so who would sign him till he proves his fitness.

As we aren’t going to raise much in player sales, doing all that business would be difficult. Other clubs seem to get small but decent amounts for youth players but we get nothing.
I would imagine Trossard and Martinelli would be wanted for the bench. If they want a move they would have to force it.
Although we need it, I believe, eight players or even close to that seems out of our reach.

Marquinhos has left the club on a permanent transfer. Another player brought in because of huge potential only to be sold without really coming anywhere near a first team chance.
Can anyone think of one of these types of transfers that has worked out since Martinelli.
These disasters plus the waste of academy players must have cost the club and absolute fortune.

Former Arsenal favourite Santi Cazorla’s stunning free-kick at the age of 40 put his boyhood club Real Oviedo a game away from promotion to LaLiga on Wednesday night.
Cazorla, who scored 29 goals in 180 games for Arsenal, found the bottom corner with his supposedly weaker foot against Almeria as Oviedo clinched a 3-2 aggregate win to reach the Spanish second division play-off final.
Cazorla is captaining Oviedo in his second season at the club having also had spells with Villarreal and Al Sadd since his Emirates Stadium departure in 2018.

Remember that game Mills, took ages to get in people everywhere. Those days the attendance was never correct always under estimated. The men on the turnstiles used to take something for themselves as well.
That was before Dixon had arrived and Kenny was demoted so Nigel had to play at right back even though he couldn’t kick with his right.

Great memory Ian! How did you start support the Arsenal?

My Mum was from Wood Green and therefore a Tottenham supporter and my Dad was from East Ham and therefore a West Ham supporter. During the birth of the new towns my Dad followed work at Hawker Sidley later to become BAE. And so ARSENAL were my nearest club.
As a child I was football mad and I got my first ARSENAL shirt when I was four, I was so proud of it. I was nagging my Dad to take me to the games and his mate at work was a North bank season ticket holder so he used to take me.
I was lucky enough to see Carlisle in the top division and all the Irish lads come into the first team. My first final on the radio was in 69 when we lost and I cried massively. Fortunately that was followed very quickly by 70 and then 71, by then I was stonewall.

Brillant. I can imagine there was a lot of banter over the years between you and your Mum and Dad! Amazing you mentioned Carlisle, I had used to collect football cards ( and the stickers) and somehow got hold of some older ones that had a few players from when they had been top flight, I always liked their kit.
Also to have seen the Arsenal Irish come in, and of course go must have been great. They were all in place by the time I turned up.
You must have seen many times Geordie Armstrong and Brady in the same team? Also how did you rate Alan Hudson.
You must have endless stories and anecdotes. One thing I was thinking about, did you have a favourite place to watch at Highbury?
LikeLike
I loved Alan Hudson but he would of been crucified by today’s fans and media. He was a magical creative player but wasn’t a runner by any means.
Geordie created loads but he was a massively hard worker. Liam could be quiet for ages but then just create something magical that was so good it would make you gasp and laugh at the same time.
I started on the right hand bend of the North bank before going in the schoolboys. Then it was entering the North bank through the Avenell Road turnstile by the East Stand and standing right behind the goal.
If I was flush I would sometimes pay out for a posh ticket to the East or West stand. Once by boys were born I would take them a little further back in the North bank or in the West Stand family enclosure.
As my lads got older myself and my mates all went up the Clock end before moving back down the North bank on the left hand bend.
Finally Steve I from this site would get me and my lads tickets right behind Arsenes seat and the bench. In the last few seasons I’ve just got sporadic tickets here and there.
I know Highbury was getting too small but certainly the Emirates and the popularity of the Premier League has made it more difficult for me to get tickets.
Long gone are the days when you could decide an hour before the game to go.

Very true about Liam being often quiet but then turning on the intelligent magic. Although disgraced, I thought Graham Rix was also an excellent player and those two were really strong on the left had side, although once Liam left he didn’t seem quite as good, maybe the penalty miss in the CWC final knocked his confidence?
I would have loved to have seen both Alan and Geordie play. Seems they both fell out with Terry N?
I always loved the bend between NB and the West stand, I didn’t ever go down the Clock-end. I also ended up behind the goal at the NB a few times, but Im such a tool I didn’t like that I couldn’t see the game as well.
Highbury had such an incredible atmosphere, for me, even on non-match days just walking around was pretty exciting. Of course Highbury was different before and after the CE/NB renovations and the removal of the bend terraces.
Very true about how you could just turn up, when you look at some of the attendance stats its shocking how low they were, and how hungry people are now.
Were you at the game when Sammy Nelson had his shorts down, wasn’t it against Coventry (1-1) -without checking it?
I wonder what ever happend to Fred Street, seems to have historically dropped off the planet?

Mills I think the big mistake with Rix was that Arsenal tried to have him replace Liam Brady, and he was never good enough to play in the middle. Rix had a dip in form, and making him captain nearly finished him, but he had a revival with good combinations with Sansom and Woodcock, in fact it was good enough to get him in the England world cup squad, was it 82

Hello Ed, hope youre having a good summer. I agree with what you wrote about Rix, great with the Tony and Kenny as you mentioned and in front of Brady. Those two made some great plays.

Peter Marinello had all the talent in the world, but was very slightly built and got kicked from pillar to post, and of course we had the great Geordie Armstrong who could play either wing. Marinello also like best had too much going on off the pitch, so with the pressure to live up to the hype, his injuries, and not forgetting our actual style of play back then not suiting him, he was always on a loser.

When you here you have the new George Best coming through the academy you get quite exited. From there, although very talented, Peter was always on a hiding to nothing. When he was on his game you just had to enjoy.
