It is always difficult not to comment on the score rather than the game especially after a big result.
in truth we got more right than wrong but it wasn’t as dominant as some are saying. Was is clear is the importance of the win for the rest of the season. I certainly don’t think we are going to win the league now but with a terrible fixture list in the last ten games it gives us the confidence to go on and get third place comfortably.
Mikel normally gets the set up right (except for Jesus who has I think has outlasted his team in the first eleven) but it was a last minute injury to Jesus which allowed Havertz in make such an impact on the game. His movement consistently caused Liverpool problems in a way Jesus wouldn’t of done.
We played very well in the first half and the mistake at the back by Saliba, not his only one of the game, let them back in. At the start of the second half they changed pattern and we were caught out in the space down their left several times. We survived just, and as they say goals change games and the timing of our second goal was critical. It allowed us to change our formation sit back and counter and that was the cause of the change not some masterstroke by our manager.
The luck for the third goal wasn’t the deflection but rather Odegaard and a couple of other players jogging up the pitch and not getting in the box forcing Trossard to shoot.
In the final third we still look awkward and forget the xg look at how many good saves the keeper has to make. The goals may have come at the right time but the subs definitely didn’t. We were crying out for speed and two of our best players were struggling in Saka and Odegaard but Mikel is always loathed to sub them and not brave enough to make any subs early.
Liverpool are a very good team and you don’t beat good sides unless you play well and our midfield were excellent and defensively we were as solid as you can be against such a brilliantly offensive side.
Going forward we need to use the result to march on in some very difficult games starting with today against the irons. I continue to hope we use Eddie, Reiss and ESR more to bring victories COYG.

great win, apart from not being clinical we were almost perfect although the media will say the hammers had a bad day.

we have found the line to when Mikel will trust the youth 6-0 up with 14 minutes to go.
Well that was one player we might have to get to twelve before the second one will be risked.

that might sound a little gripey after such a brilliant win but if you support the club you must be a little frustrated that ARSENAL lads aren’t given a chance.

well ian 20 games now walters has been sub and not got on for his debut, I’d expect that is a record at AFC, what does it tell the lad when Cedric who we want rid of gets on ahead of him when 6-0 up

in the summer Arsenal will have to move along the injury prone players, we really hamstring ourselves with having so many injury prone players, Partey, Zinchenko, ESR, Vieira, Tomiyasu and Jesus all have awful injury records at Arsenal, and for the most part they need replacing no matter how talented these lads are, as talent is useless when not available

yep Ed, were not even putting Cedric in the shop window as he will be going for free.
Mikel thinks Jesus is God and not just Jesus so I think he will be kept. I would imagine Zinny will stay for another year because he is like a manager within the squad.
Vieira and Tommy will be given another season to see if they can stay fit.
I would imagine the disappointing Partey would go along with our academy lads Eddie, Reiss and ESR. With Cedric and Mo going on frees and the raft on loan players we don’t want back there should be a bit of money freed up Mikel’s favourites, new signings.

well ian all the reports are that tomiyasu has agreed a new 4 or 5 year contract, it really doesn’t make sense. I’ve no doubt Jesus and Zinchenko, probably vieira too, are a no go as they are Arteta guys, so only Partey and ESR might be move along of the injury prone guys, we will continue to hamstring ourselves

ian did you see the report that Arsenal Academy will from this summer be competing for the best schoolboy/academy players in England, with the Academy given its own transfer budget, so they can challenge Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd for the best prospects at other EPl and Championship Academies, its being reported that its Per Mertesacker’s big plan to upgrade our Academy. No doubt it will be like the first teams transfer policy, buy x, y and z and if they don’t make the difference, just go out and buy a, b and c, rinse and repeat. Its great that money is no object now
The question needs asking, was this decision to buy in academy talent due to us having sacked so many of our scouts, or was our scouts sacked cos someone decided they wanted to get in on transfer business

Have tried posing this a couple of times so forgive me if it has appeared already

so less and less local lads and a further disconnect with the club.
It obviously makes sense in terms of the PL but in chelskis case it was purely money making and until they got a transfer ban no players made it through.
already in Edu’s reign we have a high percentage of bought in players fail and this will increase that further.
I used to love going to watch the youth players but if we lose that connection it won’t be the same.
