Functional Arsenal Is The Norm Now.

In their #UncensoredArsenal review of Arsenal vs Burnley Blackburn George and Shotta express mixed emotions over the manner the Gunners went about securing their victory. It was good to gain the points needed to stay second in the tables but, with the far superior squad, Arsenal resorted to the negative, retrograde tactics reminiscent of Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis; maintain a strong defense and rely on set plays to win the game. Will this be sufficient to win the title?

  1. Gee, I do agree goals conceded are a collective responsibility.
Arsene always said most goals contained several mistakes.
As we use a mixture of man to man and zonal at corners there will always be two outfield players plus the keeper bearing some responsibility. If you go further than that and analyse who lost the ball and why we conceded the corner you can add even players into the mix.
However having said all that the keeper is the last line of defense and anything in the six yard area from corners should be the keepers.
The problem is we have brought four keepers and none of them are an upgrade on Martinez.
If you add to this the extra money we would got for Leno had we sold him when Martinez left we club have wasted an absolute fortune.

  20. Completely agree Eduardo. Compare and contrast the officiated Liverpool benefitted from earlier in the day.
Arteta is in trouble for highlighting the officiating in this country , for whatever reason , is a bit shit.
Think the worst was the elbow on Eddies head as he ran forward, the ref and VAR ignored something that could have concussed a player. Unbelievable
Expecting more of this at Anfield coming soon

  21. also on that incident mandy, the ref wasn’t looking at it so how did he decide it was a yellow.

by the way was it eddie who scored the disallowed goal or was it kai, cos if it was eddie then it should have stood but if it was kai it was rightly ruled out under the rules

  22. It was Eddie, but I think any handball in the build up is disallowed under the current rules.
However I think the ref thought Kai brought it down with his arm and that’s why he blew, I don’t think he could of seen the slight touch later in the pinball. It looked to me as if the villa defender handled it before Kai did meaning it was a clear error and it should of been a penalty as that was the first offence.

  23. no ian under the present rules its only ruled a handball if the scorer handles, another player scoring means no hand ball, are you sure Eddie scored, as it looked to me like Kai poked it in, the way the 2 of them celebrated it also suggested to me that Kai scored it.

  24. Yeah I got that wrong, I was convinced it was Eddie who had poked in home.

  25. Tactically we seem to have got this game all wrong.
We knew beforehand Villa would have to start fast and would then play high and narrow to flood the midfield.
Jesus was a strange choice in these circumstances and he proved to be awful but wasn’t hooked until the 80th minute.
Jorginio should have played to enable Rice to make the sort of runs he was making late on much earlier in the game. This would of also allowed Martinelli to sit right on the right backs shoulder and receive the ball higher up the pitch.
Saka again kept coming inside and this was totally the wrong game for that again because of the way Villa play.
When a team have an offside trap twice as good as anyone else in the league you have to back your speed and look along the line.
We have speed and players who can make intelligent runs to spare but we decided to go a different way for some reason.
Villa are a good team but not a great team and this was a poor performance.
This game also put to bed those who claim Jesus is world class and that Odegaard is as good as KDB or indeed Mezut or for those on acid Dennis.
He is a good technical player and that’s as far as he goes.
It also rubber stamped that Mikel will tinker with shape but leaves major changes to late or not at all.

Arteta would rather risk injury to a first choice player than to throw on a youth player, its madness

  39. Well that was a lesson in lunacy!
Three CBs on the field one just taken off and youngsters who can play CB and full back and Mikel risks his best and most influential midfielder.
Added to this we had six number tens on and two strikers but still none of the youngsters.
All this in an exhibition game, a dead rubber and one the opposition even played a weakened side.
Now when Low played Kai at left back he was considered a genius in some quarters, I can’t see anyone describing Mikel in the same words.

The opportunity was there to find the same out about others but unfortunately that was missed.

It is not good enough just to be very talented you need to have football intelligence and we have some players who struggle to think much during a game.
They have a left back who is 174 and has been passed by snails and Saka still won’t take him on at every opportunity.
