  1. If we do terminate Pepe’s contract it’s another 72 million plus wages down the drain in what proved a disastrous transfer policy since the job was taken out of Arsene’s hands.
After years of Arsene finding gems brought with pennies and getting success to save the club millions it’s a real shame what a clusterfuck has happened since.
Obviously the last three windows the quality of players has been better but they have proved expensive.

  2. “A crackdown on time-wasting and dissent as well as a much stricter policing of the bench and technical areas are at the heart of new refereeing guidelines that will be in force for the start of the football season.”
Well Mikel and Pep are fucked.

  3. yeah ian but the pgmol have decided not to go with the semi automated offside system, not like their calls don’t contribute to the dissent

  4. A triffic result in Arsenal fan Arry’s eyes and many others too considering the three key players from last season not in this game Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus out and Xhaka replaced with Rice.
Couldn’t watch the game looking forward to reports and comments on the performances.
Trossard can surely also play from the right? Anywhere? Anything to ensure Saka has some cover and doesn’t have to play every minute with Nelson & Jesus out heh. Great signing.
Interesting post game comments from Rice. I don’t expect him to be world class or to fill Xhaka’s role in the squad immediately. Saka seems to be a fan, hopefully he’s good enough.

  5. reported Arsenal target, Brentford goalkeeper, David Raya is said to have been at Wembley today to watch the CS, there is photo doing the rounds that claims he, his girlfriend and one of his brentford teammates were there.

  6. It was good. I don’t think anyone’s getting carried away about it, but I liked how we caught them out in midfield. We got them stepping into traps, and attacked with a lot of confidence.

Timber had the biggest adjustment to make, but looks ready, on this scant evidence. A right-footed LB with a free midfield role—I still can’t get over it, and I don’t know how people don’t love the modern game. At least on the pitch.

Rice reads the game better than anyone, apart from maybe White and Saliba, but may need a lot of time to learn the ins and outs of possession football. It was coming through on the TV, I heard ‘Calma’ from the touchline when a few times when he was on the ball.

Not bothered about the CS, and City are a long way from up to speed, but we showed enough in the game that a defeat wouldn’t have stung. So more than anything it was a really good workout.

  7. It was certainly a good result. Pep celebrations over the city goal certainly showed he wanted to win and on recent history probably thought that was it.
The performance was good although there certainly are some adjustments still to be made. The squad on paper is better than last year but I don’t think we are where we were last year going in to the new season.
The equaliser was really important and will serve us well going forward but I don’t think anyone is kidding themselves, the season opener of the most competitive league in the world against probably the best team in the world for a trophy long established in the annals of English footballing history just does not compare to the Singapore lion trophy.

  8. On a serious note there were so many positives from the game and one of the only noticeable negative was once again Mikel continued with his policy of the subs coming to late and having to react rather than being proactive.
The mitigation being in pre-season managers are often trying to see the bigger picture in regards testing the players and formations he intends to start with.

  9. So, I wonder if these new rules that Atwell was so keen to dish out yellows for are similar to the ones that only applied to us and Granit in particular. I suspect they may go missing in some North Western quarters.

  10. The ref in Shield game had a particularly inconsistent game and after dishing out a lot of early yellows was embarrassed at the end with no wiggle room.
He seemed to have to default to an amazing amount of warnings that were getting ridiculous towards the end.
It seems the refs will find these rule changes as difficult as the players.

  11. with David Raya set to sign, we have to move on 9 senior players by end of this window to cut our squad to the permitted 25 players over the age of 21, I see some of the favored bloggers already espousing the merits of AFC paying up the contracts of players we no longer want and are having trouble getting rid of, with them seeing nothing wrong with us paying up the contracts of the likes of Pepe and Cedric and Runarsson. They also want us to take very small fees for the likes of Tavares and Lokonga with sell on clauses or bonus clauses in the deals, they seem happy for this to be in the sale agreements for younger players like okonkwo and patino too, even balogun. Seems the happy clappers support all decisions without question now, oh how the worm has turned
