Thanks for the shout out Shotta.
I totally agree the penalty was a very strange and very wrong decision and it will go down as one of those one offs like you said the Xhaka one and of course the Martinelli double booking. I think they will go down in history as “ARSENAL” decisions because they will never happen again.
It certainly changed the game and we didn’t cope well afterwards. Again you are absolutely correct about Rob being told to mark son tightly and not let him turn, which whether you agree with this tactic or not there was no question that it wasn’t working very early and something needed to change. The stubboness in Mikel sticking to this tactic after watching his CB struggle, then get warned, then get booked and finally sent off was very very naive. That is not hindsight that is reacting to what was playing out on front of him. The sending off was not controversial because if it hadn’t of happened then it would of happened at some point anyway.
The Xhaka/Elneney axis was playing well in midfield and so Conte simply missed them out playing the ball wide or over the top, again Mikel didn’t react to this and drop the team by five or ten yards he just let us keep getting turned.
I also agree we have seen the spirit in the ARSENAL camp get over many lows this year however when we lost against Palace it took us three games to get over it, this time we haven’t got that luxury.
If we have a weak, patched up defence against Newcastle then we have to protect them and sit deep and counter. The magpies are playing their last home game of the season they have to attack us and our front three have speed to spare and with Oddegarrd, Xhaka and Elneny playing the through balls we can catch them out all day long.
Again with our history of struggling to come back from a deficit it is vitally important we score first even if that is in the last ten minutes.

It comes across and a fair and decent podcast, thanks lads.I dont have anything too much to add as you covered a lot.
In a way, it felt like the Brentford game, in that the minute the lads stepped onto the pitch it was going to be an uphill struggle the neighbours were really really noisy and they played a strong 12th man. The cauldron of sweat. If we could have grabbed some early goals it might have taken some of the noise pressure out of it. Son deserved an a Golden raspberry for his acting though, my word it was embarrasing.
It might work out well though, we have to go up several gears in trying circumstances, while the Chickens will be feeling cocky going to Burnley, and Burnley are fighting for their lives?
Best thing Arteta said was forget this and concentrate on Monday. Let hope we will because the last one and half games we didnt? Leeds played better with 10 men against us than we did against the Spuds… but maybe it was better Rob getting sent off than Xhaka-imagine the guff of sulphur we would have to inhale from the Luton end of things if he had.
Shame White wasnt more fit as Rob could have been subbed at the first yellow, I said to my wife that he would be sent off after the first yellow. ” I told yer ! I told yer!”
How long is Kanes contract? Will he be off? Im sure many will be looking at Son too?Who is thi Will person?
It will tough for the Chickens to replace them.Ha!Ha!
It tough, as hope is tyrannical and really leads you up the garden path.Look at last night.
But this is Weird Arsenal so anything can happen.

seems Arsenal have signed 19 year old forward Marquinhos from Sao Paulo. A €3M fee.
It got me thinking, how many players will Arsenal be dumping this summer, if reports/rumors are to be believed, we could well see 10 to 15 players off the books this summer
Many on the list below will certainly leave, almost all will be for low fees, or even be paid to leave, rumor has it AFC willing to take a hit of £50M on Pepe
How many of these 20 players will still be at AFC next season
Leno, Runarsson, Bellerin, Cedric, Holding, Mari, Mavropanos, Saliba, Ballard, Tavares, AMN, Guendouzi, Elneny, Torreira, Xhaka, Partey, Pepe, Nelson, Lacazette, Nketiah

It will be interesting to see who stays after a loan period and I had actually forgotten that some of those players were on loan.
I was also interested to read Mark Clattenburgs penalty verdict as I haven’t heard or read many comments at all about the poor decision that turned the game.
I don’t even know why I am surprised. I can get over the spurs result but if the players that are picked do not turn up on Monday, well that is a different matter.

Mills, the problem was the red could be for seen
Along time before it happened and Mikel did nothing. His subs are standard every game no matter what the situation is in the game. If. Gabriel wasn’t injured then Pepe would have come on as well. Lack of flexibility is a problem.

I agree, hence me boring my wife with my prediction during the game, as you say, we could see it early on, but Mikel thought it would come right, why I have no idea.Son knew what he was doing too. I also agree with what you say re lack of flex, but we also have a major lack of back -up, or have ended up like that. Of course with weak penalty calls and a ref that seemed to be under pressure at the Coop of sweat it seemed stacked against us what with our basic mistakes and not finding at foothold.
Sometimes it all seems at this Arsenal to hang together by spit and a prayer, and often the players seem thwarted?
Seem ironic that again we are waiting for maybe the Spuds to muck it up as much as for us to win?

Well would you believe it we didn’t have to wait long for our answer to the Cedric penalty as there was two maybe three incidents in the cup final that were worse and of course play waved on and nothing on the VAR checks.
Another ARSENAL only decision.

oh well ,just have to win the games and not wait for others to muck about!
Even if we dont make it to the CL Id still rather be a Europa league tool than a Spud.

Ed, didn’t notice that but if that’s the case then VAR should of pulled it up for clear and obvious error. A
Of course being England the communication between ref and VAR is non existent.

Mikel said in an interview that non of the youth players were experienced enough to fill in any of the first team positions so other solutions would have to be found, so it seems players could be playing out of position all over the pitch.

I haven’t seen the spuds penalty but apparently it was contentious again with none of the players, crowd or ref seeing it but VAR managed to see a handball. Obviously the PGMOL don’t want us to get top four and are doing everything in their power to help the spuds.
Not sure if it’s my imagination but we seemed to get more decisions earlier in the season when we were doing crap.
Maybe we should expect more sending’s off and pens against us in the next two games.

well ian we have the option of cedric and tavares as the fullbacks, then if white is fit, it can be him and Tomiyasu at CB, if white not fit (he was not pictured in training today), then the options are bring in Sambi into midfield with either Elneny or Xhaka going back to CB, for me the choice would be Elneny. We could of course go with a change of formation, 3 at the back, maybe even put Saka at left wingback.
of the young defenders that have been on the bench recently, Swanson has played as a CB, but normally in a 3, he is more of a fullback. Can see any of the other young defenders getting even in the thoughts of Arteta.
If we take one of Xhaka or Elneny out of CM, then as I say Sambi Lokonga is the most likely option, but we could go with Odegaard there, Arteta has done it before, with ESR coming in at 10. There is the option of Lacazette in a midfield role too if we want more experience in the team there.
I think the key for us will be keeping the ball, and key to that is good passing. For me I’d bring ESR into the team, and if required Elneny at CB. I do wonder if White is not fit, what the hell was he doing on the bench for the NLD, mind games maybe, if so bloody stupid games.

just a little thought on all the transfer rumors, i.e. Hickey, Marquinhos, gabriel Jesus etc.
The young lad from Brazil is an odd one, he is out of contract in a few weeks yet we are offering them a fee for him, this despite the lad rarely being in the Sao Paulo first team squad.
As for Hickey, another one on the increasing list of players being bought to replace other Arteta signings that have not worked out (used to be called failed when AW was in charge). By that I mean, how many goalies have we signed under Arteta, where is CB Mari, and Hickey would be coming in to be the guy to understudy and indeed put pressure on Tierney for the left back slot, just as Tavares was that guy less than 12 months ago.
Arteta the generational manager/coach seems to have a very simply policy, throw new signings at it, if they flop just go out and get the next shiny new player in. Sambi Lokonga might need to be checking his passport is close by this summer too.

Mikel has already ruled out any youngsters playing so it is possible he might gamble with Gabbi or Ben if they are anywhere near ready.
Personally if we don’t sit back and play on the counter then I think we will be in trouble as you can’t patch up several parts of the team and expect to be coherent.
I praying that Newcastle are on the beach and Im an atheist.

Artetaball is just PR, no substance, 13 league defeats last season, 13 league defeats so far this season, but we are told its progress, 39 goals conceded last season, 47 so far this season, after bringing in 3 new starters in Ramsdale, Tomiyasu and White, and back up in Tavares. With one game to go we have scored one extra goal from last season. where is all this progress we keep getting told has been made, where is the generational manager we keep getting told Arteta is, where is the wonderful innovative coach we are told Arteta is, PR is king in the land of the soundbite.
can I just say that the notion that Odegaard should be and will be a great captain for us, beggers belief
