Arteta, Thanks For Nothing.

On today’s podcast me and @shotta_gooner take a look at the Brighton and WBA games, but mainly I go ballistic about the stupidity in the media and our own fanbase. So sorry about that.

Pedantic George.

  1. Apologizing George? You taught me never to apologize for speaking the truth. It is the dodging and mincing of words that is partially why so many fans remain quiet while our club is being taken downwards and sideways.

  2. Three wins on the spin and the most enraged embittered pod you’ve done in ages. Jim Beglin saying we’ll be able to get Özil off the books is just a guy speaking sense. He’s not playing and isn’t going to so freeing up his wages makes perfect sense however sad it is to hear.

  3. Also not everyone who follows Özil is a massive Özil fan. Using that logic Donald Trump is one of the most popular people on the planet.

  4. Wow Jules three wins against below par teams and btw if they follow Ozil then they must be Ozil fans otherwise why follow him.Get Ozil off the books and who’s coming instead of him??

  6. That’s not how social media works. Özil is hugely popular but how many followers you have is a bit of a strange way to guage someone’s popularity. Maybe I’m wrong. Doesn’t matter who we sign if someone isn’t registered to play however stupid it is you need their wages off the books.

  7. Jules, do you think China would have reacted as they did if it had been Joe Willock putting out a statement?
And I’m furious at fans and the media, not the team. And yes Arteta too, because he’s a cunt.

  8. Also yes, I would have been even more annoyed if we had paid £80m for Zaha.

  12. I have not listened to the podcast, so cannot comment on what was said.

However, at last, Arteta has realised that his style of play, without a creative central midfielder, does not work in the long run.

Parking the bus and relying on counter-attacking worked to win the Cup, but it gets you nowhere in the league as we have seen.

I cannot see the Ozile going anywhere before his contract expires.

He, no doubt, feels, and I must concur, that he has been badly treated and that he wishes to see out his contract.

ESR cannot do it alone for the rest of the season, I also think that he needs educating by an expert as to how to develop this role. Who better than the Ozile, a world-renowned expert?

Why spend millions, when we have someone already who can do the job?

unless, of course, Arteta intends to revert to his previously preferred style of play, in which case, we are ion for a rocky ride.

  13. We all know he played well after those comments against China but obviously he’s a hugely influential figure in sport and beyond. I just think we all need to come to terms with the fact he’ll not play for Arsenal again. I don’t think the comments about ESR being not fit to lace Özil’s boots are a bit unnecessary and unhelpful even if true. The last game I saw Özil play was Burnley away and he was pretty anonymous, the game against Liverpool in the league cup under Emery he was majestic. It’ll be fascinating to see where he goes next and if he can get back to his best. It was mentioned he wasn’t playing as a 10 for Arteta but he wasn’t exactly playing as a DM either or part of a midfield pivot.

  14. Sean to follow your line of thinking then 80m people who follow Trump on twitter are all fans? I’d be surprised if it’s half that. Also what does it mean it means you’re good at reaching an audience of social media users. Katy Perry has 100m+ followers while Bob Dylan has under 500k. It means nothing to me.

  17. Since contracts are no longer sacred at Arsenal, while we are trying to push Ozil out, a process which started under Emery btw, lets get rid of that overpaid wanker, Aubameyang as well. Two (2) goals in 17 games, what a waste. He is a Wenger signing anyway. Arteta isn’t supposed to coach or manage him. Just need him to say anything out of line and we can convince the fickle, mindless fans its full time to be rid of.

  18. I’m not fickle I’ve always thought a team scoring goals is better than just one person.
The spuds used to sign superstars and we would be a team (except in the thirties when we were the bank of England club)
One of our best strikers to come through the reserves was Kevin Campbell and he would say if he was in an ocean of space and Ian Wright was marked by three defenders players would still try and find Ian.
Now I’m not saying Auba and Wright were not quality strikers but it’s a team game and goals from all over the pitch are more important.
So if Auba went I wouldn’t be sorry.
ARSENAL have made there decision on Mezut and although I think it’s the wrong one and handled terribly you have to hope a young manager in his first job will learn from it and the Martinez situation for that matter.
The situation with players not being in the squad is obviously Edus fault as once Mikel or the club decide they are no longer needed for the squad then they need to go straight away whether the decision is right or wrong once it’s made it needs to be sorted. We are not a club who can afford to throw money away with players doing nothing it’s a situation for lunatics and Vinai or Edu need to be held accountable.
Three wins is to be celebrated however we must remember how the run came about not by a bold selection of players but an availability problem. Going forward Mikel needs to be judged on the ability to manage the youngsters and players like Hector, Xhaka and Elneny who have been consistent in their performances but are not the darlings of the fan base.
If Mikel,Edu and Vinai repeat the mistakes they have made recently then the club is in for a bad time, however there is no reason that is guaranteed and these young experienced threesome may yet get over terrible decisions they have made so far and come good.

  19. it seems our £28M central defender William Saliba is off to Nice on loan for the rest of the season, seems they won the battle for him cos they will pay all his wages, while EPL and Championship clubs wanted to only pay part of the wages.

If the lad is seen as a future AFC starter then I think we really should have got him to an English club for the rest of the season, both to get him used to the game here and also to help him learn the language better too. But with all the rumors that Arteta wants us to sign a new right sided CB, plus the new contract for Holding, it does not exactly look like Saliba is in Arteta’s plans

  22. with Kolasinac now gone back to Schalke for the remainder of the season, that means Arsenal have a vacancy in our 25 man squad, so we can if we want register either Sokratis or Ozil in the squad. Now maybe the rumors that Torreira is coming back this month, might mean Arteta and Edu are making sure there will still be no room for Ozil to be added to the squad.

of course if we sign someone like Buendia from Norwich or if the reports from Italy today that Eriksen of inter is joining us are true, then that would freeze our Ozil again too.

  28. William Saliba has joined French Ligue 1 side Nice on loan for the remainder of the season.

The move is designed to give the 19-year-old French youth international defender the chance for more competitive playing time.

Technical director Edu said: “William Saliba is a player with a huge amount of talent and potential. We’re confident he will have a great career with us but we must remember that he is still only 19 years old and has a lot of time ahead of him.

“William experienced a very challenging time last year, with his playing time limited by injury and the early ending of the Ligue 1 season due to the pandemic.

“So together with William, we have decided that spending the rest of the season on loan with Nice is the best way for him to develop. We will be keeping in close contact with William during his time with Nice and look forward to seeing him make good progress until the end of the season.”

William joined us in a permanent deal from Saint-Etienne in July 2019 and spent the 2019/20 on loan at the Ligue 1 side.

Everyone at Arsenal wishes William all the best with Nice.

The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

  30. It’s ducking hilarious that after the last three games there are actually people still trying to argue that failing to drop your best football player from your football team, failing at that for three years whilst upsetting and disenfranchising half of the rest of the squad and destroying the global rep of the club is a defensible action.

And in the same breath defending people who have spent £100M on signings that can’t make the bench: for a club that can not afford to follow the “model” of Chelsea or the petro clubs.

Perhaps such people cannot understand or do not have the footballs required to admit to themselves why it is that England have made it to only one home tournament final in their entire football history?

Perhaps such people don’t understand Football?
    Or sport in general?

    Or as George says:
    Perhaps such people are idiots?

This is the problem at Arsenal. Wenger was always ..2-3 quality players away from greatness and nobody helped him. He had to sell his best players……… Ambition comes from the very top in every organisation. Barcelona ..Bayern …Madrid..they will change managers but still win titles , european trophies and trebles. Why? Because they are an organisation that run a program. Arsenal had a program too for 20-22 years. Wenger software. Now? nothing……..

At the very least Wenger should be chairman of Arsenal F.C.

New signing Omar Rekik trained with Arsenal’s U23 squad, with his move to the club set to be confirmed this week.

The defender, who was previously at Hertha Berlin, agreed to join Arsenal last summer but the paperwork wasn’t completed in time.

However, the deal has now been formalised and should be announced very soon.

In addition, the majority of Arsenal’s U23 squad returned to London Colney for training today ahead of the second half of the season.

Folarin Balogun, Miguel Azeez, Catalin Cirjan, Nikolaj Moller and Ryan Alebiosu have all been training with the first-team in recent weeks but they took part in the U23 training session today.

Ben Cottrell, who made his first-team debut recently, was also involved, as was Joseph Olowu, who has barely featured since returning from his loan spell at Cork City.

Other players involved included George Lewis, Tim Akinola and Jonathan Dinzeyi.

Kido Taylor-Hart, Alex Kirk and Mazeed Ogungbo, who are still officially part of the U18 squad, also took part

  48. Club to receive Bank of England COVID loan
    Arsenal Media 07 Jan 2021
    Emirates Stadium

As we continue to work through the implications of the global pandemic on our finances, we can confirm today that the club has met the criteria set by the Bank of England for the Covid Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF).

As a result, we are taking a short-term £120 million loan through this facility to partially assist in managing the impact of the revenue losses attributable to the pandemic. This is a similar approach to that taken by a wide variety of major organisations across many industries including sport, and is repayable in May 2021.

The CCFF is designed to provide short-term finance at commercial rates during the pandemic to companies that have strong investment ratings and which make significant contributions to the British economy.

The CCFF is in addition to the loan provided by our owners Kroenke, Sports & Entertainment that enabled us to refinance the debt on Emirates Stadium in August last year.
