  1. “Steve Round has worked, and so much became clear.
He has worked at progressive outfits such as Middlesbrough, Derby County, Villa as they were four years ago, Everton under Moyes, England under Steve Maclaren, Newcastle under big Sam, and yes Utd, but under Moyes, and suddenly, a lot of things became clear! What is he doing anywhere near this club? I bet some of the players love his drills.” -Mandy Dodd

Are we built in Steve Rounds image?

we certainly have that lower prem championship vibe about our play.

  2. To hear bloody George’s hysterical hypocrisy has me laughing. Twitters great soothsayer who bleated Arteta all thru Emery’s reign, now excuses himself. Praise for Arteta based on nothing more than what he said! When others wanted an experienced, successful manager. Now George sounds like an AFTV escapee!
No credibility at all. As for the clown who doesnt even know who we played!
PS George we didn’t pay 60m for Partey

  4. Regardless of George’s self-confessed selection difficulties, what I DON’T want is a managerial merry-go-round – like 25 managers in 20 years Sunderland, for example.

What WILL be interesting to see will be Ozil’s form should his expected move to Fenerbahce happen for him in January. A decent run of form upon arrival there from him and that very well could prove to be curtains for Arteta’s reputation, if not his Arsenal job; reports from Guendouzi’s loan spell have not been overwhelming negative, by any means, whilst talking of the side-lined amongst us. Sure, Guen may have been daft against a provocative Brighton side (which preceded his fall out with MA) but was he also not just guilty of the very thing we frequently criticise our players for – not having the grit and cojones for standing up for each other?

I guess the players need to be careful what we the fans wish for. Certainly Arsene will have learnt the lesson in that regard.

  5. After living through the Leeds debacle of promoting ex-player after ex-player only to see them all fail I have always been sceptical of ARSENAL doing the same. When calls for Adams etc came I shuddered at the thought however I wasn’t unhappy about Mikel and certainly thought he was a better option than Unai or Patrick for that matter.
I am still blindly hoping his failures are mainly politics base but I am losing that hope with every bad decision he makes.
Our best results have come from sitting back and playing on the counter and the world and his wife was saying before the game the only way to beat Maureen with the players we have was to out Maureen Maureen with a defensive display. The fact we got caught on the break twice and never looked like scoring was criminal.

  6. What’s where Wigan is now got to do with anything? Martinez is currently manager the number 1 seeded side in international football. Also Mari is decent he’s obviously been injured not sure why he’s being written off.

  9. No matter if Arteta stays or someone else comes in, Arsenal really need to sort out their structure, just seems like the Kroenkes don’t really know what they are doing, and are prone to put their trust in the wrong people.
I have spent most of my football life simply and innocently supporting the players and manager, and not even thinking about directors, execs, owners, agents, contracts men, but not so easy to blissfully ignore with this lot now, hard to take seriously a regime that sacks its greatest ever manager with no plan whatsoever, and then proceeds to wing it, making an almost impossible number of mistakes for people who should either know what they are doing, or have trusted advisers that do. Stan admits he doesn’t really get football, but this shambles!
Seems like a lot of people behind the scenes have left, including what seems the whole scouting setup. What on Earth is going on, and what are they playing at? Are Arteta and Edu experienced enough to take on such a shambles? I think not. Would any other top manager actually want to? Not unless he wants a payoff.
Arteta is not covering himself in glory this season, goes without saying, but without some positive changes behind the scenes, looks to me like any manager who comes into this club is setup to fail. I fear Arteta is not this clubs main problem

  10. ArsenalAndrew I’m not sure why you expect Ozil to leave in January, he has made it clear he does not plan to go anywhere till his contract at AFC is up, and that lasts till the summer. The only way he leaves in January will be if AFC pay up the remaining 6 months of his contract and they will not do that.

Mandy the whole scouting newwork going was completely down to Edu, he done a review of the club and decided that they were not needed.
And what behind the scenes changes is it that you want.

Arteta has taken full credit for the axing of ozil from the 25 man squad, so why are so many people so damn eager to claim its not on him. If he wants to own it why should anyone deny him.

And on the subject of Ozil’s exclusion, so many told us that the reason he had to be left out for football reasons was that Arteta does not play with a no.10, so what the fuck position did Lacazette play the last two games. You see this decision alone shows Arteta is in a panic, he cna’t make up his mind what formation, or tactics we are meant to be playing. I brought up that point last week in response to all the nonsense about Klopp’s liverpool in his first season and first full season, LFC results back then were iffy at times, but they had a defined style, gengen football, it was a style some of his players struggled with, they also struggled with the fitness needed to play it, hence why they had some iffy results, but the one thing, and its a big thing, the style Klopp wanted was clear. I will say it again, I would be much happier about how results are going for AFC now if I could say the same about Arteta’s Arsenal.

Can anyone tell me what is it Arteta is trying to get the team to play, what is the style of play he is trying to play. Are we all of a sudden going to try and implement another new style of play when Arteta gets “his own players”.

  11. Martinelli starts for our U21’s v Wimbledon in the EFL trophy, it is planned that he will play between 45 and 60 minutes

Team: Hein, Alebiousi, Sokratis, Saliba, Lopez, Akinola, Azeez, Cirjan, Cottrell, Martinelli, Moller
subs: Graczyk, Denzeyi, Norton-Cuffy, Ogungbo, Lewis, Taylor-Hart, Ideho

I do wonder if Azeez and Cottrell being selected for this game means they will not be involved in the Dundalk game on Thursday

  12. Eduardo592 – Mesut is free to talk to potential new clubs from January and the reason he might choose to talk – and then sign – is likely to be because he wants to play football. Whether it’s Fenerbahce, the MLS or elsewhere remains to be seen but if your whole reason for being is to play football then chances are you will end up playing football. I hope he finds somewhere he is appreciated.

  14. AA Fener have already said that they can not afford Ozil. We probably will see Ozil sign a pre contract agreement with a club in January, well that is if he is not to stay in EPL. I just don’t see him giving in to AFC’s bullyboy tactics for the sake of six months. I would think he will only leave in January if AFC agree to pay up a very large chunk of what is left on his contract.

If you are going to have people as inexperienced as Arteta and Edu, I would have someone above them who knows a little about the game, and who can help them or their successors out. A figurehead widely respected in the game, a man of experience, honest to a fault, who can counter the Kroenkes lack of knowledge on the game , a man with a vision on how the game should be played, a man for whom integrity is a byword. I think you know who I am getting at by now.

Even if he does not fit not his basic style of play, which I doubt anyway, he would have to be very very stupid to deliberately leave him out of the squad unless he was ordered to do so from up high.

on that subject I seen someone mention today that Arsenal as a club have to decide what our style of play is, and by doing this it makes a lot of things easier, such as developing players, buying players, and appointing managers, also it means if any given manager does not work out, you don’t have all this laughable talk about the new guy needing his own players, as the all players brought in by the club will already have been do so cos they suit the style of play of the club. So its up to the manager to make it work

  27. Mikel is a manager, Wenger was a leader. There’s a massive difference. Mikel is perhaps an excellent no2. Mikel was promoted to being a manger as it seemed that he was good at doing that, micro managing. Leader people is not micro managing, its a different skill. Most of us cant do it (leading), even if we want to or think we can. A leader is not about being in charge, a leader is responsible for those in your charge.

Its not so much about what’s wrong but what can be done? Feeling like shit because your wrong and getting criticised creates an environment that is limited. A leader will create a potential for empathy, from empathy we can grow, when we grow we feel inspired, we have well being, if we have a full team as an fully functioning organism, hey presto, here comes the double..?

Wenger was always there for the players, he soaked up the endless shit, no manager would do that, they blame the workers and sack them for not being a fkin robot.

To make a team function for the needs of the fans over that of the players means failure within the structure of the competition. No? How can a team’s intelligence be based on 25 million opposing views of fans? Working for either shareholders or fans ( similar greed?) means endless fear, sackings, fear, sackings fears sackings and then a reputation is built and solidified, and as we’ve seen with the cash cow/sugar daddy clubs, you might buy a trophy but its not comfortable as an experience, as we all know its just phony. And it doesn’t always work. And even if it does we know its hollow. Competition isn’t about cheating or deception. We deceive and cheat ourselves.

Mangers are bad for business. Now if we think that there are bad leaders, perhaps they are just bad managers who aren’t leaders but say they are. You follow the leader but we all hate managers, including the manager themselves as they have also met managers in the past.

75 million dead= a shit not a leader ( incase we do are some translation work!)

Seems to me we need a leader, doesn’t matter (as Wenger proved) their previous cv? They may be rare as hens teeth, but that’s what we need?

There’s a lot of focus on Mesut, but Auba is the example of what going wrong. Hes gone awol he’s in the wasteland. Just like Arsenal. All that money and no honey for him or us.

When we are not at our natural best, its because we aren’t being allowed to be ourselves. If thats rotten from the fishes bonce down at Arsenal then someone has to be a bit smarter, as its a catch 22 we are in. See doesn’t money and sport fit? Well only if sport is adhered to. If everyone fans and owners sponge the shit out of a bit fat turkey, expect a skeleton?

We laugh at empathy, and think its weak or pussy(what’s wrong with pussy? men say really dumb things at times) but logic and reason are cold and sterile without empathy?

This is all about lack, the feeling of lack and concentrating to much on it, from the top down to all sides of the fan base. We are cooking it up and create one toxic pool of gruesome gruesomeness. How can we not? We react and swim in it.And we want change but dont go through the systems of change. If you feel like kack and smell like kack pouring cream over it wont making it tasty? Well there’s some oddballs who like that maybe but not me, or I hope you?
Pushing and bullying are based on fear. Victim is a bully is a victim is a bully etc. What works in these systems? Negativity and downfall, disillusionment and little hope. The dark side. Whose going to turn the lights back on?

There’s no empathy, there’s no harmony, there’s no-one being grateful (that includes me) if you think I’m aiming at you reading this,or George and Shotta-Ive havent listened to the pod- I’m not, I’m being abstract about the whole shebang)there no joy. These things don’t come out of nothing. Nothing doesn’t exist.
I’m not saying be positive, that’s daft and basically an umbrella term that means jack shit. Under that basic umbrella term are keys to unlock the do ors of failure and stagnation. But we have to go deeper. We have to start thinking in different ways. Positivity is higher up the scale if you think about it? Ok your told you’re dying its raining the cats dead and the dogs been stolen and the Spuds have wont he league. How the fuckery do you get positive. You caint! Positivity comes as a result of other systems…that are operating psychologically before that point. Positivity is some kind of crowning glory.
Good old empathy. Like creates like. Creates trust . Creates harmony. Creates goal achieving. We can throw cash at the situation and it might work until the holes come back and soon enough they do. As endless Chelsea managers and players testify.
Harmony through victory or victory through harmony?

But we do need a leader, and not a manager, we do need to change our priorities, if we try formulas then we must know they are relative and end up being sterile as the world changes. No? Ok Henry = fantastic player, played under Wenger. Wenger = fantastic manager. Therefore Henry must be a great manager. Well thats a false premise. Theres a lot of it around. Its normal! Although we really should say its common as normal is an odd scale and unqualified.

Thing is is there anyone at the Arsenal who can find a leader, who has the eye to see where they are? Mikel might become a leader, not yet, but he might. At the moment he’s a number 2 and Arsenal are 15th. he tried hard, but it needs just a slightly different direction? Oh brother! Woo would want to be in football these days? Tough times.

I don’t think Pochettino would come anywhere near the Arsenal.

When you get observe the record of how the club treated its best ever leader and now it’s best football player from recent times I am not sure top names in the sport will any more want to be involved with Josh’s and Kia’s Shaktar Highbury project.

Such a shame. Other clubs like Leipzig, Dortmund etc. Adopted and followed through on the model AW had built at AFC, a model which has been systematically dismantled over the last five odd years.

This is the tragedy of the Arsenal that no blogger currently has the footballs to address.

The dumping of a proven model (Leipzig) for one we know doesn’t work (Man Utd!)

What a sad story! Too sad for most of these writers writing upon the Arsenal. Evidentially so.

  33. Transcript: Arteta on Dundalk, Aubameyang, Saliba
    Arsenal Media 09 Dec 2020
    Mikel Arteta

For the final time this season, Mikel Arteta sat down with the assembled media to preview a Europa League group-stage game in his virtual press conference.

Up for discussion was his travelling squad, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form, plans for William Saliba and Arteta’s reaction to Tuesday evening’s events in Paris.

Scroll down for a full transcript:

on how he’s feeling after the north London derby…
The demands for this football club are the highest. We are not getting the results in the league that we all expect, of course the pressure is increasing. But more than the pressure, I would say the responsibility of all of us to make it happen next Sunday and start winning football matches, which is the most important thing.

on how he copes with that pressure…
I always work harder. I sleep less and I try to encourage everybody that is next to us to be positive and to believe in what we do. This is how I approach the situation.

    on team news…
We have a few kids here. We left a few players at home as well. There are a lot of games and we need a complete training week as well, which I think is going to benefit us. But we’re still going to have a very competitive team to play tomorrow.

on who has been left in London…
I cannot name all of them but a few of them!

    on Thomas Partey…
He got injured in the same area, not exactly the same spot but the same area as before. He will miss the next few matches.

on whether it was an unnecessary risk to rush him back…
He did incredibly well and he was very confident. We tested him three times and he had zero symptoms, but in football you have a lot of unpredictable actions. He went into the floor, his knee got stuck, afterwards he stretched and got up. Immediately he put a lot of stress in a similar area and it happened. Afterwards people will say it was a bit early but I don’t think it was because he was completely fine to play.

on the alleged racism during Tuesday’s game in Paris…
It was very surprising. I did not hear exactly what happened, I’ve seen the incident. But after I saw the reaction and the unity that both teams and both clubs showed. I’m sure that if it’s something that did happen, Uefa will investigate the actions really carefully because we’ve done a lot of work in recent years to try to avoid this kind of behaviour in football. I think it was a very strong message.

on whether Arsenal’s players have discussed that incident in Paris…
I don’t know if they have done it in the dressing room, but we have done around the club and with our staff because it is an incident that has a lot of attention in the media and around our industry. As I said, I hope that Uefa investigate the action really well and then let’s see what happens from there.

on why we have struggled in the Premier League since the Manchester United win…
Mainly the results. It’s strange to say but we played much better against Spurs than what we did against Manchester United. Against Manchester United, we scored a penalty and won 1-0. We had an incredible performance but then we lost the derby 2-0 so obviously we cannot talk about that because we have lost the game. We cannot be so analytical just with one thing in the work that we do because there are many other factors that contribute. But obviously we are here to win football matches and that’s the only thing that people see at the end.

    on Hector Bellerin’s foul throws…
I think it was really, really harsh. We sent the images to the Premier League because there have been many, many incidents, much worse than that but they were never [given as foul throws]. But we will keep working and making sure that we do the action properly of course.

    on William Saliba…
Whenever we have the spaces and we believe that he’s ready to play with us. To be fair, he’s made massive improvements in the last few months and it’s been a really tricky situation for him. As I mentioned before, designed a pathway for him and there were a lot of things that happened to him in his personal life and professionally as well. Now we’ve made some steps forwards, he’s working really hard and played for the under-21s again. That was a good game because Martinelli finally came back for 45 minutes, so I think it was a really positive day for us in terms of that.

on whether Saliba could leave on loan in January…
It’s something that we are discussing at the moment, the best thing for us to do. It will be decided soon.

on whether he was tempted to play Aubameyang tomorrow…
    No.

on whether Aubameyang is undroppable in the Premier League…
No one is undroppable. At the end of the day, we have to find the right players to win football matches. But we cannot forget what Auba has done for this club and what he has done in recent months, not years ago. As well, I see how he’s training and how he’s behaving, how much he wants to turn this situation around. When I see that type of hunger, it’s about supporting the player as well as the status he has in the team because of the performances he has provided for this football club.

on whether Auba’s morale has dropped and if it’s important to keep him positive…
Listen, today and this week, the response that I’ve seen from the players and the reaction I saw from the players after the match, I cannot be any prouder. Because I know how difficult it is for everybody at the moment. After losing a derby you can be completely down and I saw a completely different team, a team that wants to fight, that has a big belief in what they are trying to do and they want to push themselves and push each other harder and harder. Auba was one of the main guys there and today he was walking around the place with an energy that wouldn’t be associated to a team or a player that is suffering at the moment and that is for me the way we have to approach it.

on whether Auba is a vocal captain in the dressing room…
If necessary, he will do it but I think he transmits his energy, his desire and his commitment to the team in different ways.

on how long he thinks it will take to build a team to play in the ideal formation and tactics he wants to play and the sort of players he will want to add to the group…
There are players that can develop perfectly into that formation [4-3-3] and one thing is that the ideal thing you would like to do and the other is the possibility that you have to achieve that. As a coach, you have to adapt to what we have and what we can do in the future, obviously we have to work to evolve it to where we want because as well we have to recruit players that are very specific for certain areas and whether you have them or not is a question that is at the moment one of the issues that we have.

on whether five or six players is an accurate number of new players he will need…
No but it’s not just to recruit because there are players that are evolving that you could not see that they could play in those positions and now you see how they are performing and playing. We’ve got a lot of players that are here that weren’t capable to play in that way of playing and they are. So as well, it’s about timings, it’s about coaching them and about them evolving in the right positions and maturing. It’s a bit of everything.

on if he thinks his senior players are justifying his faith in them…
Well, if I pick them then it’s because I believe that we have a better chance to win football matches. We play young players in delicate moments as well and we played young players in finals. I think it’s a bit much to say we just play the senior players in the Premier League.

on the game against Dundalk being a chance for a young player to put pressure on senior players…
Yes and they are putting the pressure on. We have some really good examples of things that have happened in the last few months and not only players that are starting football matches in different competitions, but as well, players that have taken the spot of somebody senior in that team or that squad.

on whether that process could continue…
    That process will continue.

on if he’d support his team if they chose to walk off the pitch due to an incident of racism…
Absolutely. If the players believe that is the right thing to do, I will do it and be right behind them.

on what he expects from Dundalk…
Well, first of all I would like to congratulate them for winning the cup on Sunday. That’s a great achievement, so congratulations to the club, the coaching staff and the players. And yes, I saw a really brave team when they came to the Emirates and I think they will play with no fear in a beautiful stadium and they will make things difficult for us.

on whether we’ve trained on the pitch yet as it has been used a lot recently…
No, that’s why we decided to come straight to the hotel and we had our training session in London. Let’s leave the pitch a little bit to breathe because it’s had two intense matches in the last 72 hours.

He probably knows how he wants his team to play but doesn’t know how to make it work with the current set of players. Very similar to what Emery went through.

    I would try this.
    Auba Pepe
    Saka Ozil/Willock
    Partey Elneny
    Tierney Gabriel Holding Bellerin
    Leno

Narrow front 6. Width from the full backs only. Quick attacks with vertical passes through the centre. The speed of Auba n Pepe will push the opposition defense back. Saka and Ozil are good at dribbling and finding space between the lines and can play between the opposition CB & FB. Partey steps up for additional numbers when required against low blocks. Elneny to cover space behind the attacking fullback.

  43. I see our opponents tonight Dundalk have appointed a new head of football at the club, Jim Magilton, you might remember him from his days at Southampton, or from when he managed QPR, the former Northern Ireland midfielder will over see the entire running of the club. As the owner put it, he will be Boss. But not team manger.

  48. Dundalk pull one back from just inside the area with a rocker shot of their own, we let them in a bit too easy there
