Liverpool – A Six-Pointer?

allsport-andrei-arshavin-shows-four-liverpool_2197835.jpg

Sadly for 90 minutes we will be distracted from our jobs of management, transfers and coaching today, and we will have to watch a game of football. This game couldn’t come at a worse time for those of us that are busy running the club in our own image. But still, we should at least consider what annoyingly lies ahead up at Anfield.

Let’s start with the good news, Sanchez and Koscielny are available to start. Of course the bad news is it’s their first outing and they will be useless, rusty.

I’m going to stick my neck out and say Xhaka and Ramsey will play in midfield with Sanchez, Ozil and Lacazette in front of them. Apart from that, I must admit, I am clueless as to who else will play and where.

It seems Liverpool are in fine form, following their comprehensive win in the Champions League. It’s 5 years since we went there and Abou, sorry, we won, so it’s a big ask. It would be nice if Lacazette or Sanchez could do an Arshavin and score with their every touch, as I feel someone will have to perform at an exceptional level for us to come away with the points. We do though have a number of individuals capable of such heroics.

With last year’s FA Cup now 3 competitive games away and no more than a distant memory,  the robbery at Stoke confirming how useless we are and the Transfer Cup seemingly out of our reach now, we have lurched into our first crisis of the season. Our entire season depends on this game.

What a short season that was!

So a big performance is needed.

  1. Going by the bibs in train ing Laca will be on the bench of course the bibs have never been correct before but you nevefr know. Should be interesting today with both clubs not really settled yet. I wonder if there is any chance we might see Jack on the bench as he is banned for U23 games.
Evereyone is saying this game always produces a hat load of goals which probably means a 0-0 draw but as always i’m getting excited and nervous COYG

  4. Straight and to the point, well said PG.

Klopp”s team are not known to park the bus and them playing, or trying to, play the good stuff will always give us a chance. I see goals in this fixture and it could come down to who maximize the chances coming their way.

Though I feel pretty cocky and very confident in true Conor McGregor style. Only losers dont back themselves, and Arsenal are no losers, neither am I. COYG!

  7. Also believe Sanchez will be key,,and really hope it stays that way for the season.
Kos could also be rather importance, and hopefully Bellerin back on the right will restore a bit of confidenceWe certainly have the players to do damage, Lacazette is going to become a real handful as he adjusts to this league.
Just hope Mr Atkinson at Anfield gives us a slightly fairer wind than at Stoke, as we face the ultimate media/pundit darlings.
Would say the club could do with a good news story, but the reality , there seems to be a pretty sustained campaign against them, so feck the news. The way this club is being treated in the press, and maybe beyond, can almost sense something slightly hostile going on somewhere behind the scenes. The players just have to get on with it, and proper fans just need to back them, anything else is just noise.
Head tells me a scoring draw today.

  8. I was thinking about that game that Abou bossed and Podolski and Cazorla scored. And I was also thinking about an article that said that Arsenal still hadnt replaced Vieira yet. It struck me that every time we do find a decent midfielder the refs allow everyone to kick them to death. Or nullify them by inventing Red card offences.
Let’s hope for an even playing field today and a disciplined and skilful showing from our excellent team.

  9. And on a theme of contracts and the criticism about letting players get to their last year. How much more criticism would there be if you sold them with two years left? Or three, to really maximise the sell on value. Maybe in future we should just go for lease arrangements.

  12. Why is signing Ibrahamovic on a one year contract ambitious, but holding Alexis to the one year left on his contract a sign of shambolic management?

  13. foreverheady we have seen enough of Atkinson to know he is just the sort of ref that allows our skilled players to be kicked from pillar to post, and also somehow then sees even the slightest of contact our players make on an opponent. I fully expect today to be 12v11, and we might be lucky to keep our 11. Our only hope re officials today is that his assistants are not as one eyed as dear old martin normally is.

  15. Not sure if Alexis will start today but, assuming he is fully fit, I’d fancy a chunk of second half action for the mercurial Chilean.

Reading the Scouse digital smoke this morning they are rattled about their defensive frailties.

  16. Martin Keown on Oxlade-Chamberlain – He is not a CM, he costs too many goals there, he might have been one by now if he had played there since he was a kid, but his best position is Wing Back and he should stay there.

  44. HT: Liverpool 2-0 Arsenal

liverpool totally in command, its been easy for them, AFC have not turned up, energy levels low, team play poor, ball not sticking up front, midfield overrun, loose at the back,

we’ve had a few promising attacks but not clinical, and at times it looked like our attackers were just getting in each others way, or at least did not have an idea what each other were doing.

A massive turn around in performance is needed if we are to get anything from this game. As I said its been easy for Liverpool. As bad a performance as I can remember from us in some time.
