So ,Arsene Wenger is proven right once again – nothing new there says you ?
Last season the malcontents took umbridge when AW said, when discussing how LCFC were able to sign the likes of Mahrez and Kante, despite the big clubs having the exact same scouting info on both players, that a section of Arsenal fans would react negatively if AFC bought a player for £400k, that they did not want to see an unknown signed.
The malcontents told us this was bollocks, yet look at the reaction of the malcontents to the signing of Takuma Asano.
Not only is there negative hysteria from them, its xenophobic, and in some cases downright racist. We also have the brainless soundbite that its a “commercial” signing, or a “shirt sales” signing.
One of the most laughable reasons (should that not be excuses, as I know they like to use that term, when it suits them), for their over the top reaction to this signing, is that it is “all Arsenal FC’s fault”, as they should know better than to announce his signing when Utd have announced Mkhitaryan and Zlatan. They say AFC should have waited till we had a big name(money) signing done and slip in the news about Asano, with it.
So to compound their initial attacks on both AFC and Asano, they have totally disrespected the player again.
Does Takuma Asano not deserve respect, is he not a full International, is he not likely to be playing at the Olympics, did he not have up to 200 scouts running the rule over him at the Toulon U21 tournament in the summer, is he not a big star in his home country, is he not young player of the year in his homeland(their Dele Alli per say, but without the hype)?
Does he not deserve the chance in his last couple of game for them, to say goodbye to his club, their fans, his team mates?
Arsenal announced the deal, cos the story had broken in Japan, Asano was already getting asked lots of questions about it, and he had admitted the move was happening, he even said that the only thing to be decided was if he would join up directly with AFC, or go on loan to get used to European football.

Yet again, for the umpteenth time, the side that plays the better football, makes more chances, still can’t put the ball in the net.

Yes Eddy – it was all down to Clattenburg
Obviously if France had won that would also have been down to Clatters too.

did i say it was all down to clattenburg, france missed too many chances, all i was pointing out was that the ref from only a few yards away with a clear view of it, gave handball against kos and booked him for it, when it was a black man who handled the ball. no wonder ronaldo hugged clattenburg after the game.

too many of the french team a let down in the final, pogba and payet both very poor, the crossing from evra and sagna was awful. too much individual efforts and not enough collective play.
portugal done very well, especially with ronaldo going off injured so early, the goalie was very good, the defence was solid, and that was a fine shot for the winning goal.

the tournament overall was not a classic, more workmanlike than special. Sadly it looks like there is a shortage of really top talented forwards in the game at the moment. So many of the big name forwards struggled in this tournament, Muller and Lewandowski two prime examples.
The extra teams brought a newness about it, but I think it also brought a more defensive approach, and made it a bit more average.
Its great that a big football nation like Portugal finally got their hands on the winners tag. Just a pity it was not one of their more memorable attacking teams that done it.

the great Johnny Giles done his last night of punditry tonight, he was a level above anything that BBC or ITV ever had and will be sadly missed. 30 years he had been working for RTE
Lately he seemed to be struggling to remember players names, but he still was insightful and always wanted to see football played the right way, an attacking way, were skill was the winner.

Clatters fucked France up.
They still hadn’t recovered concentration from the entirely wrong FK and yellow card decision, Kos was exposed 1 on 1 and could not stop the shot, for fear for getting a red card.
However, Deschamps did his part – worst substitutions ever. Giroud would have scored if he stayed on the pitch.

Also – Giroud was clearly being mauled by Portuguese defenders at corners, but no way would Clatters ever give. Penalty for that sort of thing.

Man City have turned down the invite for their u21’s to play in the Football League Trophy, and its expected that Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea and spurs will all turn down the invite too. Seemingly they all agree in principle that its a good idea, but the fact that its dates clash with the dates of u21 and other youth International matches, means it would just not be viable
LikeLike
Makes you wonder why they don’t ask the Football League to change the dates around a bit – it is not as though any of these Citeh under 21s are ‘doing’ anything other than waiting to be shunted out on loan or see their contracts run out a year or two hence.,
LikeLike
well its clear the BPL clubs, not just City, can see the benefit of playing in the FLT, but as stated, the dates of it just make it impractical.

God knows eddy – it just seems like sensible suggestion that might give young players in the Academies a bit of real competition against League 1 and League 2 professionals.
And as with every idea in English football there is a ‘reason’ not to do it, in this case apparently because the Trophy fixture dates are carved in granite somewhere and/or the international fixture programme is equally immutable.
My guess is if there was MONEY in it – or Sky and BT were bankrolling it participation in the FLT would magically become practical.

well anicol the fixtures are really set, the FLT is staged on the same dates as the youth internationals, mainly due to the fact it don’t normally affect lower league clubs. And without the better u21’s and youths, there would be little point in the BPL academies entering.
the whole fixture list is overly congested, too many clubs, too many international teams, not a summer without an international competition or two, ACN almost every year now, copa america going the same way, football in the olympics. Room can not be found for a winter break in the english game, so little chance of finding extra dates for the FLT, just so u21’s can play in it.
LikeLike
I have no doubt it is crowded eddy – although a number of other PL academies appear to be happy to join in.
Looking at the actual spec of the competition only six of the 11 starters of the 16 invited Academy teams have to be under 21 anyway.

The point I am getting at is the seemingly default “can’t do” attitude of some PL clubs.
If the fixtures clash with international U21 games, and not that I have ever heard of PL clubs having much reverence for international U21 games, then is it not possible to find another mutually convenient date to play the games in ??
LikeLike
when would you suggest, the same week as coc games, or fac cup, or cl (which means ycl for the academies too),
they are talking about having it with groups, so a minimum of 3 games each, then possibly the same again, before any knockout.
The only problem BPL clubs have in regards to u21 international sides, is when it comes to the summer tournaments, and the calling up of full internationals to it, I don’t know of any fuss or any problems in regards to withdrawals from u21 qualifying group games. there is normally full compliance at all levels of international underage football, the same rules apply there as with full internationals, in so far as any player refusing a call up can be banned from his club team.
LikeLike
anicol I would suggest that under the rules outlines, that it is the football league that is putting forward a “can’t” do attitude, look at the rules for the gate money
Group Stage – Invited Clubs will donate their 45% share to the fund.
Knockout Stage – Invited Clubs will retain 25% of their share and donate 20% to the fund.
Semi-finals & Final – Invited Clubs will retain 30% of their share and donate 15% to the fund
so for the 3 group games the BPL clubs get nothing, not even anything from their one home game.
its almost as if the football league don’t want the BPL clubs to be in it at all.

Well as the Football League has a total of £1.95 million in prize money including the £100k for the winners the notion of them having to bribe PL clubs to join in sounds a bit like cobblers to me Eddy
PL clubs moaning about not getting their financial share from L1 and L2 clubs – I’ve heard it all now
If there was ‘money’ in it PL academies would be queuing up round the block

the league clubs would very likely have higher gates if the bpl clubs are in it, so they will make more money out of it, sponsorship money will only go up with the inclusion of bpl clubs, its one thing to already favor the draw towards the league clubs, with them getting two home games to the bpl clubs one, but why make it that the bpl club has to pay for the privilege of playing in it.
either the football league wants the bpl clubs in it or the don”t, or is it just the extra revenue they want from the bpl clubs, but don’t really want them in it.

It is nice that two chatterboxes, are keeping the site ticking over?
Since 2011, the Arsenal have been seeking a front man, like the Scarlet Pimpernel, the Arsenal seek him there and seek him everywhere.
Keeping tabs on Steve Rowley, is no simple task. We know that Mr Rowley, turned down that Costa chappie that plays for Chelsea. That fellow, was unspeakable to the Archangel Gabriel.
Until Mr Rowley has vetted the unknown (Sanago ?), and Mr Richard Law, has settled the personal details.
I do not believe a word on transfers, printed in the national press!

I see the social media is frothing over a story about Thierry being shown the gate at Colney as he is unprepared to give up his Sky TV slot and commit to a full time job managing the U18s.
Very sensible of the Frenchman, coaching badges and management jobs are transient, with no more substance than a snowflake on a warm Summer’s day – as his former fellow pundit Neville can confirm. Stick to the couch son – it’s easy money for the next decade.
Unless of course you are Arsene Wenger.

It seems to have gone a bit mental this morning Fins, with Matt Law from the Telegraph pouring a litre on unleaded on the bonfire.
If Arsene and AFC requires the coach of the U18s to be full time, and presumably would prefer an already qualified coach, then that is an easily understandable position. It is a serious job and one that I would hope requires full time commitment and for which there will be no shortage of high quality candidates.
If Thierry wanted to keep his Sky job and thought he could combine it with getting his final badge and coaching the Arsenal U18s then that is fine as well. I can understand why an ex player would want to keep his options open and Thierry has built up a nice little media gig since retiring from playing.
I do not however see what seems a minor breakdown in where/when Thierry does his final badge, if he decides to complete it after all, to be grounds for melting his bloody statue down.

Wasn’t there a time ACLF used to be pro Wenger?
Now, because Henry is apparently not going to be an U-18 coach, this means Wenger won’t accept any challenge to his ideas.
Firstly, not broadcasting your internal discussions/dissensions/workings is just common sense. Not broadcasting it does not mean they don’t take place.
Secondly, Wenger is this all powerful figure in the club apparently, set on doing his own thing, and all the top end professionals people Arsenal employ are there only to serve him? Even if that nonsense were true, one Thierry Henry, unproven at any level of coaching, taking on a part time U-18 job would actually threaten this all powerful dictator? In fact, he is so threatened by Henry that he actually wants him to work for Arsenal full time.
People are idiots.
