Arsenal’s Lack Of Ambition

Last night I read again a blog written by  “Arsenal putting pieces in place for future success”  .I have read it several times now and it a fabulous piece , well written and researched. Having read it I then tweeted

People didn’t see a plan not because there wasn’t one, but because they were unable to comprehend its enormity. Silly people.”

I expected the usual replies. you know the ones .“We were lied to . we could have done more, we should have done X, we should have bought Y, mistakes were made blah blah blah” . But to my surprise very few like that were forthcoming. So either people now accept they were wrong and the improvements are now so obvious that they can’t deny them or perhaps people are just happy and are prepared to forgive the perceived acts of negligence by the club?

I suppose the problem for many is that their ambitions are tied to the club. They are basically asking someone else to be ambitious on their behalf. The Arsenal board, and by extension Arsene Wenger are responsible for their personal ambition. An odd state of affairs and somewhat unique to football fans who in real life think that tweeting while sitting on the toilet is ambitious.

Still, I digress.Back to last night. I then got a reply that I believe is the single best tweet I have ever seen.

“spend some fucking money!” ringing around the stadium the club spent £400m+ on. You couldn’t make it up.”

Brilliant. I rest my case.

But do these media people like Chelsea or do they like Mourinho? And why? Surely their affection is monitised. If its not Abramovich’s money – well at least not entirely – then they must have other sources of payment for their dubious affections.

  2. Sav Cech will not be the first person to tell Roman that Jose owes all his success at Gazprom to his roubles but he’s certainly the most high profile figure associated with CFC to say such a thing so provocatively in the public realm. Heh.

But I guess that Roman knows full well the game that he’s engaged with. That Luiz deal happened with his full sanction, and he’d also have approved the plans to build an army of slaves/loanees etc.
Jose was sacked before by the big fish that he works for, and he might get gobbled up again at some point. I read that some arsenal fans are hoping that The Specialist goes into a complete meltdown against Roman after Cech helps win AFC the league and as a result is found face down in a skip somewhere the day after AFC’s title winning parade!
Have you seen Cronenburg’s film Eastern Promise? A interesting take on Roman’s/Gazprom’s London by a great American artist.

  3. There’s no doubt that Mendes and a few others have a greater influence on the sport then most clubs.

And that is where the AAA’s efforts to circumnavigate that “reality”, for self-declared realists, well, that is where their credibility evaporated as they consistently attacked AFCs polices. Given the well known context!

I did watch Eastern Promises – with Viggo Mortensen of Lord of the Rings fame. But that was about gangsters dealing in gangsterisms. Whatever Abramovich was or is, the size his corporation and its ties to the Kremlin mean something very different than a simple football club or league. I think perhaps we can view what the Troika is doing and has done to Greece as similar to the methods of gangsters, so its always somewhat a matter of whose side and whose interpretation.

  5. It is true history is written by the winners skewing truth in their wake. Even now anything that doesn’t go along the establishment media straightjacket is considered a mere conspircy theory rather than an attempt to get to the real truth. You only have to see the truth released, after the 25 year constraints, to see the massive lies governments will sell to the gulliable masses.
Then consider how easy it is to sell an image of a bumbling frenchman in the likeness of the pink panther and you can see how the wobs will lap up any dissinformation.

  7. Sav, my own speculative and ill-formed guess is that Roman is not quite the same as some of the other oligarch’s who fled Russia, primarily becasue he hasn’t fled?
Perhaps he was sanction busting his and others’ fortune well in advance? Gazprom are very much part of the Russian economy and they own several clubs operating in the CL including the likes of Schalke and Gazprom-upon-Fulham so whether we understand or not there is some kind of a pattern there.

It is a thin, thin football day. As one might expect on the second day of the window. RvP hawked around the old bazaar of Istanbul, England’s women commit hari kiri in front of the bemused Japanese, and its first night of the Europa League.

    Thin indeed.

  9. aob I do hope that Maitland-Niles going on loan is part of his learning curve that is to see him as an AFC first team player, and not down to all the trouble and embarrassment his mother caused the club near the end of last season.

  10. Eddy he already impressed with the first team, so he just needs to play.
Toral had a decent spell as a teenage loanee for Brentford last season, if Ainsley can clock as many minutes it’ll be great for him. Hopefully more.

Reflecting on Diaby, Eddy and others we are lucky as football fans that Ramsey made a good recovery. At times the best CM in the land. I still think he needs careful watching from the staff, a player who might need a mid-season break for a week or so?

  24. I notice that the AAA are back using one of their favorite words again, “deadwood”, it seems they have now decided that AFC is again full of “deadwood” with several fringe players like Sanogo and Wellington the nearest to being understandably their targets for this, but I’ve seen some of this mob use the term “deadwood” for Welbeck, Per, Ramsey and Arteta.
I said it a few weeks ago when a thread on there said that the fanbase was more united and the AAA was on the run, that nothing could be further from the truth, the AAA just move the goalposts every time they are shown up to be wrong, or they just ignore the fact they are wrong and continue with their nonsense regardless. The amount of bullshite aimed at Ramsey and Arteta shows that the AAA will never admit they are wrong about anything.

DC if it was only our Captain that they disrespect, but we all know its nearly everything Arsenal that they disrespect, yet they claim to love Arsenal, I still do believe that many of the blogs out there are actually run by guys who support other clubs, they seen how successful one of the first blogs written by a non Gooners -ANR – was and how good it is at stirring up an anti Arsenal agenda under the guise of an Arsenal blog and hey presto we get a whole host of similar anti Arsenal blogs
We also have the bloggers who set up blogs to try and get into the mainstream like Jamie Sanderson, and of course we have the bloggers who are out there to sell merchandise like shewore, And of course we have blogs that promote the negative agenda cos they know it gets more clicks

  27. Eddy I wouldn’t stress about the AAA they’ve been with the club since the fifties the poor lambs.
I can remember being sat in that sweet spot in the old west stand as Viera charged forward to score that goal against Newcastle to more or less clinched that first title under AW, certainly the crowd new the importance of the goal. As Viera made his run and as most observers caught their breath there was a random loon stood up hurling abuse at the Arsenal No.4. I suspect his ire would’ve been less if paddy ha bleached his skin that morning, unfortunately the AAA spokespersons have left an unflattering track record in these matters.

Where things got weird is where others online eventually caved in and bought into the AAA memes and decided that they weren’t going to call them out for it. So it was many years till an American blogger finally became the first of mainstream online AFC fans to say the obvious.
And that was more dissapointing then anything the hardcore loons ever had say, after all they are idiots. What excuse for others not having the guts to say what needed to be said? No footballs I guess. Feck em all.
This is our haven from those who showed they don’t know how to support a football club. We’re not interested in their ‘spiral of decline’, certainly not as the Arsenal have been heading in the other direction.

The Arsenal have been heading in that direction ever since Arteta and the BFG spring cleaned the dressing room. Those who weren’t willing to comment upon that process at the time are not worth listening to now.

The arseblog post reflects those fans who sang for Diaby last year. Some would’ve sang in jest but at least they joined in, most would’ve known that there was very little chance that he was going to make it back this time, the gaffer had been very direct in the pressers: so, let’s not forget Eddy that I spite of the media bias that fools a few that most AFC fans have been supporting their team and players, and will continue to do so.

Those who caved in to the anti-French grittish bollocks are totally fucked up now and find themselves in a position where they can’t support the club thy they say they support in spite of two successive FA cup victories. That’s hysterical! And genuinly genuine evidence or the dysphoria diagnosis.

But Eddy’s right about ANR. How many strange AFC ‘fans’ read a blog written by a truly strange Gazprom fan? Answer: the type that wants AFC to be CFC. So even more reason to ignore the mad fuckers!

Yes, it’s the ‘wilful’ cretinism part that upsets the most:
I was reading Mikel’s very nice welcome tweet to Petr Cech and was horrified and ashamed about some of our so called fellow fans when I saw some of the comments sent back to our Captain.

There is a lot of hate and stupidity out there, especially amongst the still acne scarred demographic. No amount of rational evidence for AFC’s on-going upsurge in achievements or MA8’s superb footballing qualities would assuage these type.

And then of course there is Brendan spending money like a drunken U Boat captain on his last run ashore ??

Instead, encouraged by the Torres and Suarez deals, they assembled a whole team to play high stake moneyball. Shame it didn’t work out with Carroll or Mario of course. Anyway, happy to see them spend the bale money, I means their sterlings, on top four left overs like true spuds.

He has been a pleasure to have at the club and his arrival, an established German international with a zillion caps, was one of the turning points between the lean years of making do on signings, and the club attracting excellence and experience to strengthen the existing young core.

One thing I hope he passed on to young players at the club is that it is possible to bloody smile and look like you are enjoying your football, doing what us fans regard as a brilliant job, rather than the glum expressions you sometimes see.
