Arsene’s Way

I woke this morning fully intending to pen an article about where the spanking of Liverpool leaves us in terms of this season and more pointedly, going forward into next season.

Then I read an article written by Tim Stillman for Goonersphere, and I thought to my self “why bother ? “.No matter what I write it will be totally insignificant on a day that this has been published.

So here it is

I hope Tim and the site don’t object .

  1. anicol I have been thrown off a couple, the first one was Le Grove, they did not like their falsehoods and flawed logic being pointed out and my post just stopped being put up or would be taken down very soon after I posted, so I don’t even bother now. Same goes for ANR – its so laughable that Myles Palmer still has the cheek to call it Arsenal News Review.

I left Arsenal Times of my own choice, I was a moderator on there, but when a couple of the more optimistic and reasonable posters announced they were leaving AT I decided it was time I left too, I had just got fed up with the amount of negative shite on there, fault was found with everything Arsenal, from color of the kit to Hill-wood and Kroenke. then there was the endless hijacking of threads so that thread after thread became the same soundbite fest of round and round nonsense.

  3. Tim Stillman is one of the most even handed Arsenal bloggers out there. Unlike so many others he does not seem to be trying to get a gig with the main media outlets, nor like most of the noisy bloggers he does not seem to be trying to get his ego stroked, and lets not even start with those bloggers who are in it to sell their tatty merchandise.

  4. video of a 16 year old Maxi Romero of Velez Sarsfield’s from Argentina that Arsenal are reported to have signed on a five year deal for £4M, with a view to him joining when he is 18. Laughably the lazy journos are calling him the new Messi, when his game is nothing like Messi in style, he actually looks more like a centerforward type.

Those whinging about Arsenal under Wenger Prob did same with different focuses under Graham & Neill… They’ll do it under a new mgr too..

I have to agree with that tweet as l I know one oldie gooner who told me and anyone who would listen a couple of years ago that he was part of the fan group that got billy Wright the sack in 66, and both Terry Neil and don Howe in the 80’s and he would do all he could to help get Arsene Wenger sacked

  7. Romero looks good eduardo, but are they sure he is coming to Arsenal UK or Arsenal South America?

  8. his agent has said he has held talks with Arsene Wenger twice already, and his clubs chairman said AFC had lodged a large bid and both have said he will stay on loan for 2 years before going to England. Under FIFA rules he could not join till he is 17 without his parents moving to England for non football reasons, plus he would unlikely get a work permit, it would be hoped he will be a full international in two years time. He has been named a sub for Velez Sarsfield’s first team a couple of times already and he only recently turned 16

  14. The rumour season started already I see. I tend to agree with arseblog on Maxi Romero – most rumours are poo anyway. This one especially so for the reason that eddy rightly gives – lack of work permit until he’s about 24. But maybe if we can get him for €2 million now. we can sell him to Barca for €40 later. Easier to get a work permit in Spain.
shotta – if you can’t get triumphalist over yesterday’s triumph. then I feel sorry for you – or have I just misunderstood you?
I whinged about GG but have never done so about AW – does that make me the exception to the rule?

Maxi Romero has apparently told Tyc Sports in Arg that he’s close to joining Arsenal and that talks are “advanced” – http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/europa/velez-sarsfield-romero-discorsi-avanzati-con-l-arsenal-sono-felice-665809

Romero “The talks with them are advanced, It’s a great joy this has happened. Now I have to learn English as soon as possible.”

Re Murray goal. Gary Nev has just talked about Phase Two of the move as ”debatable”. If it’s debatable, it’s not offside. That’s the law.

  19. just seen the second goal in Palace v City game, for me Hart must have had Ozil’s goal on his mind as he was too far to his right, left too much room to make up

Arsenal were 12 points behind city at Christmas and are now 2 points ahead of them, a 14 point turn around so far.

Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero the only outfield players in this Manchester City side under 29. Kompany turns 29 on Friday.

  20. dkgooner – Nobody is as happy as I am but I won’t fall in the trap of most bloggers and media who one month ago discounted any chance of os making top-4 suddenly making us title contenders. Not only does it ignore how close the game was until the 8 minute flurry of goals but is setting us up for an anti-Wenger wankfest once we have a poor result especially against United and Chelsea. They are already blaming Wenger for falling short, not praising him being 2nd despite the poor start.

with that sort of form both Liverpool and tottnum have a chance to overtake them for 4th spot.

  30. World Cup and ACON Yaya Toure is still fitter then me the poor blighter. What he needed was an ozil-esque or Giroud inspired break to help him cope with the absence of any recovery window over these past twelve months.

What I’ve noticed about the Groaners and end of an era wallah’s is

    A) They “lost the plot” as they like tosay after the second 5pur2s victory. Unfortunately they were too bitter and bile to celebrate.

    B) I don’t think they understand that Ass. Football is an athletic sport, and I don’t think they understand what athleticism is. There is quite a lot of evidence for that understanding.

    C) they have a pathological inability to accept that AFC don’t do business in certain ways. This is by no means a difficult conclusion, oh no, because this character precedes the arrival of AW (um, GG sacked for doing what every other manager in the league was up to?). Though that never stopped these experts on football and the history of AFC from blaming AW for every decision made by the board at AFC, a deliberate misreading of the marriage between the club and manager. Which they now deny doing though there is plenty of written evidence upon their own blogs! Which is just a teeny weeny but odd. Almost as bad as those podcasts which are longer then the football matche themselves and have been full of people slagging off a player from the previous match for trying to play through an injury (see B above…). And round and round they go! In the meantime AFC have managed to rebuild a squad whilst winning an FA Cup in between the last two WCs with Özil and Alexis at the core…

  36. George,

I am often reminded of the satirical portrait by Alexander Pope of Joseph Addison, founder of The Spectator, a man who could have done much good but who chose not to, hiding instead behind layers of cynicism. I leave you to substitute whoever for Addison in the last line.

Damn with faint praise, assent with civil leer,
And without sneering teach the rest to sneer.

Alike reserved to blame or to commend,
A timorous foe and a suspicious friend,
Fearing e’en fools, by flatterers besieged,
    And so obliging that he ne’er obliged;
Willing to wound, and yet afraid to strike,
Just hit the fault, and hesitate dislike,
Who when two wits on rival themes contest,
Approves of both, but likes the worst the best:
Like Cato, give his little senate laws
And sits attentive to his own applause.

Who would not laugh if such a man there be?
Who would not weep if Addison were he?
