Arsene’s Way

I woke this morning fully intending to pen an article about where the spanking of Liverpool leaves us in terms of this season and more pointedly, going forward into next season.

Then I read an article written by Tim Stillman for Goonersphere, and I thought to my self “why bother ? “.No matter what I write it will be totally insignificant on a day that this has been published.

So here it is

I hope Tim and the site don’t object .

  1. A most enjoyable and thought provoking read from Mr Stillman.

Interesting point he raises about Arsene’s reticence in discussing “tactics” in detail with journos compared to other managers like Rafa and Jose and Rodgers.

I get the sense that Arsene would be happy to discuss and explore tactics and strategy with the press pack. It is said he would talk the hind leg off a donkey on any football matter. It may however be he is reluctant to discuss football in the byte size headline creating scraps of his fellow named managers. Years of experience may have alerted him to the futility of the project.

    Just my impression though.

  4. So the thrust of the article is Arsene does do tactics and doesn’t choose to tell the press any more than he wants to. Can’t argue with those findings.

Still would have rather read your take on the match though George.

My suggestion of Francis Coquelin as the key performer in the game perhaps not so far away – albeit on a day with some mighty good individual performances.

Ta PG that was a very interesting read, I don’t tend to bother that much with the ‘goonersphere’ (no pun intended) nowadays with the tiresome agendas, ITK’s and all round twats constantly having a pop at some aspect of the club. But I will always try and look at something from a trusted source.

  12. Hahaha…. shall we put it simply and also put it to bed.

The only reason why arsenal and wenger get/got bad press is because a) football is ( in its majority) a sport for the masses i.e simpletons i.e stupid people, it takes intelligence to recognise intelligence b) arsenal was never big or intelligent or as efficietn or as sexy or as famous etc etc. big clubs have big fans..fans that know what it takes. it was my hope that wenger would educate the masses and to a certain extent he has. As per eddy’s video yday and another posted some time ago by georgaki ..the doomers are ..well look at them …lol..uneducated, lowlifes with not much to do and a massive ego and self importance. these types are prey for the media. Media are in the business of making money out of gullible mugs.

so if fans were not idiots and if the internet had not given the opportunity to every idiot to air his/her views/opinions…noone would be giving wenger/arsenal any shit about anything. idiocy + free wifi = wenger no tactics/finance/youth

and if people who are fans for 40 and 50 years still have not found the courage to apologise for the shit stirring then what hope can you have for the 20-30 y.o lads you see in the fan videos……

and the ones who sat in the middle …machiavelistically enjoying the clicks and the ‘debates’ when they knew all along that such things could harm the morale of the team ….well….

  15. Am a little disappointed not having George’s take on Saturday’s game having already read and commented on Stillman’s excellent blog via Twitter.

Got to say I am quite concerned with the media’s rush to get on the Arsenal bandwagon and the now provocative theme that if only Arsenal had brought a holding midfielder and a central defender in the summer they would be winning the title. Wiped clean from the memory bank is the fact that Arsene bought 3 major players in the summer and post World Cup we were blighted by injuries as the boss sought to rebuild and reorganize after falling short the previous year. Our good friend Muppet predicts the media hacks will soon adopt the position that with all the talent on board Arsenal should win the title. This is a dramatic swing from Ozil flop, Giroud far from world class, etc that was the mantra up to a month ago.

Expectations are rising and instead of wilting with fear the challenge should be embraced. But the idea that AFC will ride roughshod over the league for the next 7 games is to forget the adage that you are most vulnerable when you are over confident.

We start with Ramsey and Coqlin leading by example. Jack Wilshere had soaked Aaron’s underwear with medicinal alcohol and tabasco in his socks. It showed from early on with Ramsey chasing every Liverpool player who had the ball outstaging Sanchez. Alexis duly replied to the challenge and took his pistol out for a quick one just to remind everyone. Then Coqlin, still hungry from breakfast decided to have a taste of allen, a little bit of coentrao and a bit of that markalaz antilope. Such appetite this kid. it was like watching Ovelix on the Easter table, after defeating a phalanx of romans. I will now request a moment of silence for our beloved Father, Brother, Son, one Kolo Toure from Cote Ivoire

    [……………..//………………]

Aaron, as we would expect, ignores all decorum past and ex and shamelessly humiliates our Invincible. He is one on one, But thats too easy. He is riding high. He will go one way, pretend and switch and shoot with his weaker. Why? Cause thats how he feels like. Cause he is in charge and he decides. Cause he is Aaron fucking Ramsey and wants to put Arsenal ahead. In a classy way. Damn you mignolet. who has also saved one from santi cazorfield. The guy who disappears the football.

Liverpool tried to balance it a bit and they did try, we have to say. The lightning quick streling unusually failing to get to the end of an assist….our defence and keeper beaten. Then we travelled back in the Munchausen era for a while and saw the famous nederlandische circus act with a stoned dwarf trying to outjump a skyscraper. Very amusing.

And then….how can i explain..weve all seen mel brook’s ‘spaceballs’ when rick moranis orders ‘ludicrus speed’. Within 8 minutes the cannon fired trice! And what a trice. Hector, that audacious little bastard put Arsenal ahead with a fantastic, well taken goal. I dont give a shit about the defender and what he did. Look what Hector did. He played basketball with his head, then danced late 90’s trip hop and then did the robben !! He is the right back. He is 19. This is not normal. Good luck Debuchy. And good luck to you too Arsene in keeping him…ha…. Off course all this has started after an epic, stop time/spot player/resume time, from Ozil, to find Ramsey who is stretching an over-strecthed Liverpool defence. Great stuff.

Then a moment of class and perfection. Right distance Right angle, Right foot, right player. Right Goal. Damn right 2-0. Crowd goes wild. Players give kisses. Qucikly after that, Ramsey, clearly annoyed with Bellerin, does the zidanne assist le turnique and finds another player who is annoyed, Sanchez. What happened is hardly printable. You have to see it. Its too graphic to put in words. I was afraid and shocked. Thought i was witnessing something too violent for so early in the day. There is a bit of pandemonium in the stands, half time, standing ovation. Just wow. 3-0 devastation.

Lots of smiles, lots of pints, second half starts. Cant see much at the other end so just focusing on our attacks. I counted three that were stopped by a barging liverpool player. Perhaps there were more. Anyway. Ospina made a save a bit later. Then a penatly was given. Impossible to say from the ground. Later on tv it looked like one, cant remember anyone complaining much at the time either so ..ok. Ospina nearly saves but its 3-1. Then Welbeck and Flamini came in. You can not sense Liverpool staging any comeback. Youre just waiting patiently for our fourth, which comes from Giroud, again assist from Ozil. A curling left. In total three goals out of four were curling left shots. Wonderful. Days this stadium was built for. Lets keep going like that and wherever it takes us…

Just a little note that someone may already have pointed out but I don’t have the time to read last blog comments: On April 1, AFC website had a little April Fool about developing footballs with Puma for all their left-footed players. Among the participants was one Hector Bellerin who voiced the view that, although he is a right-footed player, the new balls had helped him with his use of his left foot. Then he goes out against Liverpool and scores a goal with …
    Makes you think, dun it?

  27. I thought we were excellent Saturday however football at the top is about fine margins, first goals are becoming more and more important as more and more clubs rely on the counter. We give up two good chances and then pool had their own glorious chance to open the scoring fortunately their tactic of always passing to stirling betrayed them and we were spared a goal against the run of play. Undoubtedly they would have sat further back and tried to catch us the break. I still think we are playing well enough to win but it would of been alot tighter. Also this game highlighted their most important player is not Gerrard, stirling or indeed their best technical player courtinio but the big lump skertel. Although I fully trust in our own wonderful team I would prefer not to face Liverpool at Wembley as they found out last year just because you spank a team one week doesn’t guarantee you ‘ll stop ARSENAL winning the F.A. Cup the dame season. So enjoy the win but remember we still have many battles to win before the fat lady sings to signal the end of the season.

  28. So the searchlight moves tonight on to Selhurst Park. Citeh in shakey form and the home side erratic. I understand no Chamakh tonight who is recovering from a hamstring and although I cannot find it out for definite no Sanogo, also injured. Palace have enough in Zaha and Bolassie and Puncheon to make it a difficult night for Pelligrini – I fancy the points will be shared.

  29. Because of Skrtel and Can’s lack of sense I reckon the fat lady might be in FA Cup action at Ewood on Wednesday Ian. What should have been a straightforward home win over Rovers has been transformed into a serious hurdle for Liverpool – Gestede will be feeding on raw meat all week.

I am getting weary of the triumphalism here there and everywhere. (Loomer seems to have experienced this from the very dudes who had us dead and buried a mere few weeks ago.)

  32. Now I can see why Loomer is so angry. The hypocrisy and inconsistency by the anti-Arsene crowd is so tiresome. Initially they discounted the lack of a pre-season and the post World Cup fatigue on players like Ozil, Mert, Podolski’s, Sanchez, Giroud, Koscielny and even Ospina. Only 2 wins from the 1st 12 games was all Wenger’s fault, not the toll from the pile of injuries to key players. 4-5 months later when the team is injury-free and realizing its full potential, it is again Wenger’s fault because he should have prevented post World Cup syndrome, stopped global warming and turn water into wine. Unbelievable.

  49. Mr Stillman writes a lot of sense. So much absolute Bollox talked about Wenger, how could a man who has done what he has and is doing, a man who , according to the ex Utd managers biography regularly kept Fergie awake at night, reducing our most successful manager to nothing other than ref assisted cheating, how can this man have no tactical acumen?
Great Generals usually have egos, but many of the very best keep their egos in check, and play their cards close to their chests. Jose and Brendan clearly have egos ever so slightly out of control, the former can buy his way around his weaknesses, the latter should take a bit more care, I am sure he will learn
I am sure Stillman is right, Wenger may well be quite happy for the world to believe this commonly written gobshite, but have a feeling, even his harshest critics will have to re-evaluate their collective stance on Mr Wengers approach to games.
