Welcome to the GunnersoreArse Blog, being blogged 918.74 kilometers (in a straight line) from the Emirates Stadium.
This article is a continuation from my last post, so perhaps to understand the context, it may be best to read that first here:
I walked on the Emirates pitch 34 years before Wenger. A history of heroes and villains!
In the mid 70’s, Arsenal had declined somewhat from the glory days of the early 70’s. The lowest point being a 17th place position in the league in 1975/76. Most of the double winning team of 1970/71 were moving to other teams and Bertie Mee had been replaced by Terry Neill as manager, Charlie George had gone, Ray Kennedy had gone to Liverpool and made a very successful change from Striker to Midfielder. George Graham had buggered off to Man Utd in 1972 and Frank McClintock had moved across London to Queens Park Rangers…

So happy for Germany and for our boys on the team – hopefully we will feel the benefit from the added confidence this will bring.

He should have been blocking Schürrles path for the crosser sulking in the goal. Argentina were essentially handicapped on Messi’s wing and they used that to their benefit.

How does Messi get the golden ball as player of the tournament? James Rodriguez was much better than him during this world cup. Amazing what a reputation does for you.

Best player in the tournament was Neuer
Lucky Neuer missed the red card he richly deserved

That was a really good World Cup, marred by some outstandingly gormless referring in too many games and usually victimising the underdogs, apparently under orders from Blatter not to make the right calls.
The final was an excellent tactical master class from two teams that were very close to each other in quality. this is not to say that it was an exciting match, modern football shows that the fear of conceding can overwhelm attacking instincts.
The best team won, but only just.

Good summary DC. One of my earliest memories of football was the 1990 WC final and this was a much better game!

Although I kind of agree with Passenal’s sentiments about the player I have to admit that Messi was never fully fit for this tournament, and it was a shame. Poorly managed by the Bunga Bunga boys this season, never given enough rest, with noticeable silence from the unemployed physios out there ( I mention no Dutch names! ) on the mismanagement of the worlds best player. AW said the rest period between the end of the season and the start of the WC was crazy and I have to agree. But then we know that the broadcasters don’t really care about the sport.
On to the Arsenal’s pre-season. Three World Cup winners returning to the squad. Sanchez! Lovely jubbly.

gainsborough: “My gripe with David Luiz is that he commits too many of these stupid mistakes to be considered a top defender worth £50m.”
but whether he is worth 50m or 25 pence or 6 billion is not the issue….its whether he is a level above djourou or not…..how many times do we have to say it?
torres might have fallen a bit from his previous standards too but if you come calling him a donkey and saying bendtner is on another level then i can prove that wrong too.
As for the rest of your comments, simply laughable. So we shall overlook stats, attributes, and career achievements i.e the data and facts of their performances …..and go with your personal biased preference(s)? Yep great criteria there. There is no nananana here mate -Ive told you plenty of times- they might well both be shit and donkeys( hummels + luiz) but in comparison to maldini …not djourou…….. get it? simpleton?

Might give him a bit more personality.
Who do you think deserved to win? Messi? Muller, Rodriguez and Robben were better in my opinion. As much as I dislike Robben, he was a constant threat in every single game he played. Messi was well controlled in the three most important games of the tournament. What is the case for him over the other top candidates?

Hunter, fuck off. I know more about football than you, you fucking donkey.

Just saw an online poll on espnfc.com for the Golden Ball. Candidates: Muller, Rodriguez, Robben and Messi. The first three all had significant margins of support ahead of Messi with Rodriguez narrowly leading Robben and Muller. It is actually pretty obvious that the award should have gone elsewhere. Messi knew it too.

This carefully written article by Jeremy Lebor in which he clearly refutes any suggestions that performance enhancing drugs may ever have been used in certain Spanish football circles is worth a read – if only to reassure that there can be nothing more than footballing reasons to explain any team or individual’s comparatively poor showing over the last few months.

Sid, because most of the time I like him. And he is fully supportive and appreciative of Arsenal and Arsene.
Because someone’s posting style is at times repetitive and irksome,is not grounds for a gagging order. Plus Gains is well capable of looking after himself.
BUT. More and more its difficult to defend him as more and more people are losing patience .
Still, I’m sure he is smart enough to see if there is a problem.

Sid, I think it also fair to add that with Hunter on here ranting, among people who are largely sympathetic and understanding of his world view, it does ensure that that other blogs and message boards across cyber Arseworld are safe for people to go about their daily business.

we see 3 sec bites as worse than back and leg injuries….
some paint false pictures on penalties ( ivory coast/greece) and /or performances ( luiz vs germany) and or fouls/assaults ( neymar / zuniga) but heaven forbid if we put it right…we are ruining the blog…now i get it….
i guess though we can allow the rest to take cheap shots and express bigotry and disatisfaction and tell us to put a sock in it, and to fuck off when we talk about subjects they dont like …… i see now…..

On reflection on last night’s game it was really two very good teams having a go at one another with neither side having an outstanding individual, or for that matter was there any player who looked that he did not belong on the pitch by right.
The cult of the individual superstar faded over the course of the tournament, from the group phase and last 16 games where Messi and Neymar hauled their teams across the line, and Robben dived his way to infamy, to last night’s beautifully constructed machines working almost perfectly.
While I appreciate the sponsors HAVE to have a “player of the tournament” I don’t think any single player stood out as superior to at least half a dozen others.

i think schweinsteiger was the epitomy of desire last night…he was immense…and what can one say about philip lahm. undoubtedly one of the best and hard working footballers i have seen. has been at the top3 of right backs if not the best for a whole decade. i think the argies looked more dangerous coming forward but higuain was too stressed too play proper game…i still think neuer fouled him big time there…only the ref saw foul on neuer there. very strange decision. excellent tournament from mascherano.

As well as the other quality leagues around the world.
Are we signing Sami or not?
Is it to be Ospina, Ruddy, Marshall or Stekelenburg…or Vorm?
These are the issues of the week
We await confirmation

Upon reflection and reading all and sundry, last night’s final was an excellent contest. It could have gone other way tbh. But in the end Germany’s greater depth prevailed as evident by the role of two sub’s in the scoring of the one decisive goal. At the end of the day a better team prevailed over the better superstar.

Did you see Hummels get scorched by Lavezzi, Hunty? You can add a lack of pace to his list of deficits. He’s slower than John Terry.
Mesut, Poldi and Per come back to the team as world cup winners. Hell yeah.

those saying mesi didnt have a good tournament …well he did score 4 of argentinas goals and provided the assist for the other two.
what got exposed was the myth that diego had it easier as he had teammates to rely on (laughable) whereas a picture was created for messi being all alone….all alone with players like mascherano di maria aguero ? hmmmm… could one say argentina missed di maria yesterday?
another myth that got busted imo is that demichelis is a poor defender as the english media like to tell us….

Who is this we? The only person hyping David Luiz is you. Anyone with two ounces of brains knows that Johan Djourou provides more bang for the buck than that silly haired idiot. And no, David Luiz will never be even one level above Djourou. Djourou was impeccable for Switzerland and David Luiz was the biggest joke of this world cup.

You must not watch Per an awful lot, because if you did you’d know he isn’t as slow as Hummels. You’d also know that he is the absolute dog’s bollocks at marking and reading the game. How any times have we seen players come speeding at him only for him to stick out a leg at the last minute and dispossess them? But I see what you did there, taking that dig at BFG when it’s Koscielny you should be comparing him to, since he matches up more evenly against Hummels. Sneaky, sneaky.

im not hyping up anyone mate….youre the one talking bollocks about players who have done things in their careers and claiming that lesser players in lesser clubs with lesser achievements are on another level…..a truly laughable statement of yours. and i have told you before…when djourou does better than them you can come and claim his superiority over them. till then your claim is a ridiculous one.
now go let some cold water run down from the tap and on your forehead….luiz the joke of the tournament? why? cause it fits your narrative and bias? marcello was a bigger joke…..but then again when you watch football i wonder what youre watching…
fine then you take djourou in your fantasy team ill gladly take hummels and luiz and all the other donkeys like suarez cesc messi robben mascherano that you and/or others “would never have in your squads” …

oh i know what per is …dont you try your pitiful games now…..why are you trying to make it look im having go at arsenal players? …its your claims and statements im objecting to……… you are neither arsenal’s nor wenger’s spokesman you deluded little man.
you have dropped a serious clanger as both in dortmund and in the national team the reader has been hummels while the get to ball is subotic and/or boateng ( at least in last two where wc is concerned) ….. when per and matts play in same 11 they have two very intelligent defenders out of which hummels can come out quicker at ball
