What a difference a year makes. This time a year ago Arsenal fans the world over were frustrated after a long hard fought season where we made it hard for ourselves once more and eventually managed to scraped 4th place. Manchester United had won the league and Fergie had just retired. Many Arsenal fans were debating whether or not we should part with our own iconic manager who had delivered champions league football once again but had failed to bring any trophies to the Emirates stadium. The atmosphere was pretty toxic and that didn’t get no better by the time the season started as yet again arsenal had apparently missed opportunities to sign some quality players in the transfer window and had also failed to sign a world class striker. We’d just got spanked by Villa and many were baying for blood.
Then it all changed. The notoriously tight with…

Its a disgrace! How dare Wenger actually start spending that warchest monies when it could be earning a decent amount of interest FFS!

Hehe Loomer.
Sanchez and Walcott in the same squad? Chamberlain and Gnabbers if needed. With Özil, the master and apprentice (Rosicky and Wilshere rotating in the tennish role, with Carzola I guess?) pinging the passes through?
Oh my giddy lord. I need to go and lie down.

I guess, then, that it appears as if someone or some organisation had a plan! Blimey.
All along. For all to see.
Unless they had lost themselves in the deep dark depths of their Arsenal’s.

Do you all remember the quote from Arsene Wenger in May when quizzed on transfers? I can’t remember where it was.
“…there are players who want to come to us…”, he said to the hack with some confidence. Which left me just a little excited at the time. Arsene knew.

End Of An Era my ass. I wrote some time ago, when the Judases turned their backs on AW, that we were on the verge of a golden era. Little did I know that our financial fortunes could be so transformed and the much derided FFP would begin to bite the petro-clubs. How many of us imagined that in the summer of 2014 the club could look Cesc dead in the eye and reject his attempts by worm his way back into the club after his betrayal of the club 3 years earlier? This past year has been a complete repudiation of the betrayal of Wenger by those who decided their own ego and vanity was more important than staying the course. Any wonder some of us are quietly gloating.

They are desperately trying to turn the boat around at ACLF and steer it back towards the sunshine.
But I don’t see much humble pie being eaten. They must be stuffed full with it by now.

And some less quietly than others! “I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it!” to quote the Pointer Sisters. It feels like the good times are finally coming and those of us who stuck with it during the dark days are entitled to wring every drop of joy out of it!

Spot on. There were people out there who claimed that Wenger lost the plot when it was clear to see for everyone who cared to open their eyes that we had a huge financial burden on us ever since we started to build our stadium. Wenger himself had said that we need to make a 15 million profit each season to stay in the green but still, some people (among them some of the people from AST who seem to only care about cultivating their own image at the cost of the club) refused to accept reality, they just failed to understand that we can’t compete with other clubs and that Wenger had to work miracle after miracle after miracle each season to keep us close to the top.
Now, as probably all of us knew, the financial shackles have come off. I am sure if somebody would sift through posts on ACLF from 2008, 2009, 2010 you’d find plenty of us saying that we will have to wait until we can renegotiate our current deals before we can be expected to buy ready made top players. And voila, last season we renegotiated the Emirates stuff, this season we signed up with Puma and suddenly we can buy (almost) any player we want. Not a huge surprise to us here, but people on other blogs are acting surprised and shocked. They are claiming that “Wenger has come to his senses” when this has been the plan all along and just cause some ignoramuses failed to see the wood for all the trees doesn’t make it okay for them to continue abusing our manager and the club and throwing around backhanded compliments. There’s still plenty of humble pie left.

And you might want to post that your mates at End of an Era, Northbank. They’ve been railing against one man with a barrage of negativity. During celebratory moments as well. Ozil? Pure luck they say. Top of the league? Everyone else is shit they say. FA Cup? It was only the FA Cup. You get my drift. Hopefully that helps.
