I walked on the Emirates pitch 34 years before Wenger. A history of heroes and villains!

Welcome to the GunnersoreArse blog. Being blogged 918.74 kilometers (in a straight line) from the Emirates Stadium.

I was thinking about this last week and I started to reminisce how I’d walked regularly on the Emirates Stadium pitch, across the terraces and through the dressing rooms long long before it was even a twinkle in Wengers eye. In 1972, if someone had asked me what Chorizo was I probably would have said a Brazilian footballer, I was 18 years old and working for a company called J.R.Smith and Sons, a scrap iron and steel company owned by three brothers from Camden Town, Brian, Dennis and Ronnie. I worked with Dennis, they called him ‘Dennis the menace’ and the description was perfect, he was fucking crazy and he had his fingers in many different dodgy pies.  Dennis and Brian ran the Ashburton Grove site and Ronnie had control of a sister…

All-round skills are why I prefer Joel (& Alexis).
Oh if only Theo had made it to Brazil……but this is not a very relevant discussion at the moment.
Let’s hope we get them both to the Arse and Theo returns to full capacity soon

London, and elsewhere, was indeed a land of spivs, and for some reason, always “two tone grey” – in my memory. Frightening, yet exhilarating. The bobbies still used whistles. Bomb sites everywhere. Well written.

Hunter, I think you may be on something that I’ve been searching for for a long time and as yet, not found! Could you introduce me to your dealer?

Joke-O is an amazing player. I don’t like him, but I won’t go into why. I watched the final hours after it’d been played, without knowing the outcome. I worried for Fed, but that 1st set was fabulous. Could it last?

At the end of the 4th set I started sweating. Could the greedy git with 2 sets of twins with a wife who was a pro player herself (yes, I’m jealous), actually do it?

Drat, not quite. Thing is, after watching all of that, and following on from the 08 final, it’s difficult for me to begrudge Djocko his victory – in the manner I usually would.

    I love Lewis Hamilton.

  9. however what i found most interesting was when mixing the chemical compounds that would form the base of the paint at the factory and the equipment used…fucking science i tell you..such sophistication….usually you have robots and scientits in white robes measuring the right amount of colour pigments, resin, oil, copper and or other epoxy compounds before going into the mixer but in our case/factory we had one albanian emptying bags of everything and mixing it all in this giant 6ft pot with a stick while an egyptian would operate the fork lift to lift the albanian in a position to be able to mix with his stick/oar… fascinating technology…we have japanese and germans coming next week to teach them.

I trust that is now the end of the matter. Any further attempts to defend this odd method of putting in a transfer request will only reflect poorly on those attempting to do so.

It is simply a repeat of requests that there’s have made time after time, over a long period of time when it comes to threads about a player who bites when he needs a transfer. Some would say that it is rude to ignore those repetitive requests for different people.

  30. “your requests?????”

So, as explained above: others have asked you previously to stop writing about Suarez. Perhaps, maybe, possibly because it is boring. Not forgetting he is not an Arsenal player.

It is unfair to ignore these many requests. Previously I was happy to chat about Suarez, as you well know, but now I too am bored gritless. Therefore it is actually unfair of you to brand me as unfair.

He’s off to la liga, just like he always wanted. No one cares. He’s never been an Arsenal player: The End.

and? none of the above forbids me from talking about him…..

what is unfair is to single out and scapegoat simply because you and/or others personally dislike him.

you mentioned him today and i just followed up with a question ….. then iwas told ot put a sock in it for asking why should we care about liverpool…..

others have also never been arsenal players..are we allowed to talk about them? do i have your permission?

anyway dont like the way things have gone so catch you later when youve all allowed your complex on suarez to settle down a bit…… …

  33. I can’t recall a single expression of dislike from me above for Suarez. Not today, not ever. How can you take the comment you quoted above that clearly states that the threads on Suarez are boring and twist it into an expression of dislike for a football player?

Clearly you don’t like the way things have gone if you are reading words that I have not written. Please do have a think about that.

  38. Well Hunter.
They don’t call it Argie Bargie for nothing. Suarez should know that game, it was invented in S.America!

Has it not been the convention since the dawn of time for strikers and playmakers to allow the Zungia’s of this world to pick up the suspensions upon their behalf? Why? Because, you know, a football goal-scoring superstar pin up making a flying leap through the air to deliberately incapacitate an opponent with kick/knee delivered with enough force to break bones might not go down to well with the sponsors, the media, it might even lead to a forced transfer following on from a ban…oh!
It’s not like everyone in the world understood and emphasised with how Cantona ‘lost it’ whilst accepting that the player could not do what he did (and we should note that he didn’t have a track record of using such actions to force transfers). Did I really have to just explain that?

There’s nothing to discuss! Which is why it’s such a boring thread….Zzzzzzzzz.

sorry but can you put that in simpler words please ? ive read it like 4 times i dont understand what you want to say….

are you suggesting that the neymar injury is an “oh well part of football” incident? and that something people shouldnt complain about because big phil told brasil to kick the colombians?

or that zuniga was told to do that on neymar to expedite transfer of suarez? ….. youve lost me mate…..

do you have a problem with suarez working in football? are you like shearer and savage who want him out of football? lol….

  40. or …and this is hilarious…are you suggesting suarez bit chielini and cost uruguay progress in the world cup and his own progress in the tournament just to get his transfer out of liverpool which he would get anyway ??? whether barca or madrid makes no difference really……

right then…so as he is runnign in the box trying to get into position his brain automatically went to liverpool and “hmmm how do i get my transfer” ?

if you believe that then im sorry for ever taking you seriously….why dont you put a sock in it..?…

  41. If you happy to be so transparently disingenuous through repetitively attempting and failing to compare the clear words written above and all the other words and articles written on PA over the past month or so with the likes of Shearer and Savage then there is nothing more left for anyone else to add. e.g. Consistent attempts to imply a personal distaste for a player where none has been expressed. Strange.

I’m also apparently not allowed to think that there are better players out there who may actually be on their way to becoming an Arsenal player. My apologies! You’re doing such a good job here Hunter, there’s no need for me to add anymore is there?

  45. “blow everyone away.” you think?”

    Yeah, George, blown away.

Here’s a clip of him playing against Barcelona the season before last. If people saw a twenty year old kid playing this way against Barca, he’d be one of the most coveted player in Europe.

    Like

  46. Thanks Gains: that clip makes him look exciting and it will be fun to see him in an Arsenal shirt if that is the plan. On a theme of young forwards does anyone know what the story is with Gnabry? I think he got injured but I don’t know the details. For what it is worth I thought he looked a tremendous prospect when he played, but he seems to have faded out of the general consciousness.

    Like

  47. George, where/when did AW make these comments on Theo’s return? I have been concerned that with that type of knee injury, players often come back losing a step or two of pace. And that is so vital to Theo’s effectiveness and threat. I certainly do hope he comes back as speedy as before.

    Like

  48. Campbell had a fantastic first game against Uruguay. He showed quality in many aspects of the striker position. Against Italy, he was good but I could see why he was subbed at 70–he should have had a penalty but he was certainly less effective against a pretty decent Italian defense-and I imagine they were paying closer attention to him. I didn’t think he had an especially great game against Greece or Holland. I don’t think he looked as comfortable centrally as he had appeared originally vs. Uruguay. I look forward to watching him in preseason, but it is an open question whether he will be with us for the next season. I hope so, but it will depend on what he shows AW close up. He’s talented but to my mind not a surefire prospect for us the way Cesc or Jack or even Theo as young players seemed certain to contribute to Arsenal’s first team in some way.
