An Early Eye On The Sunday

Today we have a guest post from @anicoll5
An interesting week for us and the neighbours. Our trip to Munich yielding a respectable result and a good performance against a team who are currently better than we are at football, I know, I know, but it has to be said. The only frustration an injury to Mesut.  Later in the week we here Rambo may take a little longer to return. But we are Arsenal supporters – what are injuries to us ? Chaff in the breeze – Pfffft.
For Tottenham Hotspur a full-on nightmare seven days. Sherwood happily in the shower, soaping his undercarriage and whistling ‘Nice One Cyril’, when out of the blue Anthony Perkins peers round the curtain.
Utterly humiliated by error after error at the Bridge, after which this month’s Spuds manager Tim tore a strip off the players for their appalling collective attitude.  It is said there was much shouting and air clearing.
Then on Thursday night a home QF tie against Benfica. Mighty Benfica, one of the great clubs of Europe, though not in the current elite. After some shocking Europa Cup opponents, Tromso, Simferpol  ( eh ?)  this was surely a night with the potential to be one the long suffering fans of N17 could remember in years to come.
Two hours later the banks of empty blue seats told their own shocking tale. Cluelessness reached a new depth. Tim has had a confrontation with Jesus. His team have been crucified. He is off to the dressing room for another tongue whipping of the shocking white shirted troop of clowns and charlatans. The ashen faced Levy gropes again for his trusty axe.
Now what is the point of this tale you ask ? Other than to wallow in the juicy pleasure of Spuds’ anguish and their supporters engaging in the sort of civil war we can only dream off.
Well it is this.
I refuse to believe that Spuds can be that bad again. It would defy the laws of history, and of physics.  I anticipate a tight, hard battle, with not a second allowed for players on the ball, with errors punished ruthlessly, and for Dean the opportunity to gain an entry to the record books for cards issued. Refer back to the title therefore, and he who crows last crows longest, and probably loudest.
And if my caution is misplaced – If the game and the result do go the way of footballing form, and of player and managerial quality, and Mr Dean keeps his hand on his holiday money ?
Well I predict the death of Tottenham Hotspur Football Cub, no more, no less.
I thank you.

I think your suspicions are correct. They surely can’t be that bad again, especially in the North London derby. As always, it will not be easy.

But if we maintain focus and discipline, who can stop us. Not cheating refs, not kick-happy players. Its 3am kick-off in Sydney. Going to bed now. Anticipate I shall be wrecked at work tomorrow. But to see Arsenal live is a rare joy, whats a little bleary eyed Monday morning in comparison.

  2. Excellent, Anicoll5. Irrespective of which Spud team turns up I expect the result to be in our own hands. If we can play our passing game at a high tempo which is highly likely with TR starting then they will not be able to live with us. My main concern is with our players staying injury free for the games ahead.

  3. Lovely stuff Coll-what Frank said,if the fizzing the ball about Arsenal turn up we’ll win, gonna be tighter than everyone’s saying at the swamp though, they’ve been awful recently but expect a reaction even with their Arsenal supporting manager.

  8. I share the same concern as Frank about possible injuries though I have THE feeling that mama Universe is just about tired of the moneybag BS thats over-permeated all spheres of human society, i.e, it’ll be a case of “as 1 departs to – another returns from” the sick bay to keep the groove going.

..so yeah, its ok Szczesny, we’ve got Lukasz…..ditto everyone else bar AW.

  10. The spine in this team is strong. From the keeper to the striker, we have solid players. Creatively, we’re also very good despite our injuries. Rosicky, Santi and the Ox are on fire at the minute. Then we have Poldi, Flamini, Gnabry, Nacho, Vermaelen and Fabianski on the bench. And with Aaron coming back, we’re even stronger. All these boys have to do is hold it together for these next three matches.

  15. Well said, anicoll5. Derbies are always tough and the North London derby is the toughest of all.

Regarding the earlier game, I can only copy and paste from geoffarsenal’s twitter feed:
“@GeoffArsenal: One of the biggest disappointments for me this season is dropping 5 pts v Man Utd, they’re shit.”

  22. That game was shit, but I had Tim Howard on my feed, commenting on the game.

That’s how you narrate a fucking game. Dude went into everything. Passing lanes, game temperament, game management, cheating, play acting, what is said in practice. He talks about everything American fans want to know.

The dude has Tourette’s syndrome and he controls his ticks like a Jedi. He does this thing where he gets on top of the oncoming tick, he pauses, slows downs and proceeds after he composes himself. Then he does this trick where he starts back up sounding eloquent and on time. You can hardly notice when he has a tick.

I’d buy Brad Guzan as a reserve and bring Friedel in as a third keeper/ coach. American goalkeepers have always been good.

  48. heart in the mouth stuff again, the remaining weeks of the season will be stressful even when we’re winning. The big difference with this side is your not expecting the other side to score, although worried you know the team are resilient.
we’re not on fire at the moment but form has to be grown it doesn’t just happen and hopefully with a less full injury list we can start to rumble teams again.
Strange thing is the win makes next weeks game even more important.
