Well, a mix up on our end almost gifted them a goal and now we benefit from them having a mix up. First Mertesacker didnt hear a shout from Szcz (Or maybe Szcz didn’t shout) and cleared the ball over the keeper but Gibbs headed it off the line.
And then on the other end Gibbs put in a nice cross but a Marseilles players was there to clear. But instead of just hoofing it out he decided to bend over and try to head it… nowhere, I guess? And it fell straight to Theo who scored with a brilliant volley.
It’s a bit end to end now without either team really threatening. More like getting to the opposition box, giving the ball away, getting back, winning the ball and repeat.
Oh, a bit of action in our box! Ayew tried to dribble through all of our defenders and actually succeeded (but he did pull back one of our guys, it should’ve been a foul.) but his pass was a bit too heavy and the other Marseilles player could only get the slighest touch to it to send the ball wide.
Almost Özil’s first goal! Monreal did very well to dribbel to the by line, put in a low cross that almost found Özil but a Marseilles defender got to it, Monreal receiving it again, playing Özil into space but our Ö-ssiah could only manage to put it ever so slightly wide. The angle was very tight, though.
@Gains
The media spent so much time pre-season talking about how Mourinho would take the league by storm and how he is the saviour of English football, I don’t think they can run with the “in crisis” line just yet. Probably be busy all week making excuses for poor Jose.
Watched the game in France, (not in Marseilles sadly).
Their TV show showed a game where our possession was very dodgy, I thought we gave the ball away far too easily.
However OM didn’t have the guile or the control to score when they had the had the ball.
Chezzey was superb, although most of his work was routine: it’s the presence that counts.
Well done Theo, Aaron and a Giroud. Gibbs was top class too.
At least we have learned that Özil is mortal too.
A huge sigh of relief at the end of that game.
And Chelsea lost? at home ?? Biggest smile of the night!
Aaron got a reasonable touch on the ball, before the ref blew for the peno. His leg did flow through a bit after he made contact with the ball and then the player, but in my opinion the ball was clearly knocked out of the attackers route, so fuck the follow-through.
Would not have been a penalty in Old Trafford.
But this is Europe, we have to get used to Euro rules.
Napoli should certainly not be equal on points with ARSENAL. the ball definitely crossed the goal line before Rena reached in and plucked it out.
CONGRATS TO THE LADS AND AW ON A WONDERFUL AWAY WIN.
WE LOVES YOU AARON.
turn the sound down and listen to arsenal player

Ohw! Giroud almost makes it two after a Theo corner found him free in the box but he headed just wide.

Aaron Ramsey. Aaron Ramsey. I have no words.

Ramsey basically used his upper body strength to brush past a defender and let fly from outside the box. Can we call him world class already, please?

The Marseilles fans are silenced. For the first time I can hear our away support singing.

Penalty for Marseilles. Wrong decision because Ramsey played the ball 😦

Still hardly any goals conceded from open play.

And they score. Perfect penalty, just too strong even though Szcz got something on it.

Another non-penalty. Thank goodness for that second goal.
