Fantastic.

What did that one-nil result tell us?

Well excuse me for saying this, but it told some of us nothing we didn’t already know. But let’s have a think what it should have told the malcontents.

For starters, despite Spurs spending north of £100 million, and us having a paper thin squad ravaged by injuries, we are a better team.

I felt that we were way below our fluent best and that Santi and Rosicky, despite their efforts, had off-days. With more precisely weighted balls from them, we could have scored a bucket-full. Dont get me wrong, I am not moaning about them, or saying they were bad, just that from our two most technically gifted players, we normally see better.

The upside, which totally outweighs any small downside, is that we had a shape and a tenacity that tells me that the manager is 100% right about this group of players. I would go as far as saying that it’s the most tightly knit squad we have seen under Arsene.

Our dodgy defence is anything but dodgy, no matter what the halfwits in the media say. I still think Bac is by far and away our number one right-back, but Carl is a fine understudy.

Laurent and Per are easily the best centre-back pair in the league.

Even at this early stage. I am confident that Flamini is exactly what we have been crying out for. Not only as cover for Mikel but an actual alternative.

Now, what’s all this rubbish about Arsene not doing tactics? Those looked like different tactics to our normal stuff to me!

I really can’t say how happy I am that Arsene has once again made mugs out of his detractors. When will they learn?

Let’s see what today brings and  where we are tomorrow.

Great team, great players, great manager, great club and a great future.

See you all tomorrow.

    and a great post!

You also forgot about the impact of positive home support!

Our new goal keeper does look amazingly like Almunia – let’s hope he has better luck than Manuel had towards the end! I’m also happy that it looks like Fabianski is staying as I think he is a good goalkeeper. He had some dodgy moments in the past and he’s been unlucky with injuries just as he was starting to establish himself, but he deserves a chance and it’s good for a club of our stature to have 3 top goalkeepers to cover for unforeseen circumstances.

“I would guess we’ll see a lot more threat created from the left with Ozil and Santi. Ozil will compete with Lukas for a starting place, not with Santi. Ozil is then, effectively, 3G’s replacement, but could equally play from the right if needed there. We’ve replaced one of our slightly weaker links with one of the best attacking midfielders in the world. That’s my take! Transfers? AW is just about to show up the EPL prima dona brigade and media idiots with the most thrilling signing of any team this summer. I rate it higher than Hazard to Chelsea.”

Hmmmm. I like the way he plays in the middle for ze Germans.

The prima dona are going to moan about Wenger not making a move like this sooner, as if Wenger’s been sitting on his nuts for the last five seasons.

They all ignore that Özil wasn’t interested in a move a week ago and it all came down to the Bale deal going through. Deadline day was literally the only chance we had of signing him and it looks like we have taken it. I think this is clever business for which Wenger should be applauded, not attacked.

It’s really nice that we have left so many other rival EPL clubs looking a bit fucked up, Liverpool, Newcastle, Spuds; even Chavski and Manure now look like even bigger tools.
Hazard wouldn’t even be Ozil’s boot boy, Gains.

Wenger has been pulling all the strings during the summer. hehe.
Now his plan (nearly) has come to fruition.
I am SO glad we are not getting Fellaini, he is an awful player. He will get away with murder in a Manu shirt, but quality wise, he offers nothing – give me the Flamster any day.

No surprises either that Moe wouldn’t give us the steam off his piss at Chelsea.

We might have to hold onto TGSTEL until the winter transfer window, and see how he plays or behaves as a reserve player.

Didn’t Wenger promise us more than one surprise? I’m like a spoilt kid now.
He still has a bucket load of cash.

  8. DC, cash isn’t much use if you can’t find anything worthwhile to spend it on! And the doomers will never understand the concept of only spending when it’s worth it, not just for the sake of it!

  9. Özil is official now, report Sky Sports with some quotes. Really happy about the signing, proper quality. I feel that we have done exceptionally well in the transfer window, as good as any of our rivals. With Flamini and Özil, we have strengthened our midfield and we probably have the best midfield in the league now. I mean, just look at the names we have at our disposal: Ramsey, Wilshere, Özil, Flamini, Arteta, Rosicky, Cazorla. No matter the combination, it’s the best midfield in the league.

Well done to Arsene and Arsenal for having the guts to hold out for a top player. And we can all relax now, Cheaty McBitey and the Scouser Chav will not be embarrassing us this season.

  21. After what AW said about the disruptive influence of too many new players at once, he was never going to buy wholesale numbers. A goal keeper does not mess with team chemistry to the same extent as an outfield player. Flamini will settle in quickly as he is coming back to a familiar situation (as well as being able to play in more than one position) while a talented footballer like Ozil will settle in well at the home of football and a youngster like Sanogo will mostly be on the fringes of the first team. The core is settled and well established so didn’t need much more. I think people got confused by all the departures, but in reality they were already gone from the squad as hardly any of them had played for a year or more in some cases.

  22. @passenal
It was always a very ridiculous suggestion that we need some sort of wholesale change. People seemed to forget that this was the team that has gotten the most PL points in 2013, the team that beat Bayern away convincingly. Our core is as good as any other team in the league.

  24. dc no i dont have to and in any cases sanctioned but ..they got their replies ….from the players and the manager and now from stan too…

if they are still as absurd or as extreme to believe that wenger is past it and doesnt know football and tactics and all that delusional stuff then they are free to become another circus in cyberspace….

some say its ok to doubt a tested and as experienced manager as wenger in whether he knows his job or not whereas i find it extremely stupid to think that his credentials and work thusfar can be doubted, but our fans want to have the freedom to debate about it you see……the devil had nothing to do and decided to eat his own children…….

but you know how its going to be, this will be twisted into wenger finally seeing into their logic and they will even claim credit for pushing things as true supporters. they are capable of rewriting history. what i saw was a ref screwing up a game which had home win written all over it. a ref that got fired from his job but some of our fans and some of our popular supporters blogs chose to ignore that and moan about “matters” which have been generated my media and rivals-trolls

those who crow about old arsenals and bollocks like that and tell us that they know cause theyve been fans for 30 and 40 years as if that buys them experience or entitlement to anything…they forgot the most basic of our principles..victoria concordia crescit….may this day signal the end of the civil war on arsenal fans and may the emirates collapse from the songs and supporters jumping in synch screaming, losing control…as ball goes from schezney to per to kons to sgana to arteta to rosicky to aaron to jack podolski to giroud to ozil to theo to cazorla to ox …..cannonba!!

We’ve basically bought what we need, and where we couldn’t get it, we’ve found another solution. Shame about Ba – John Cross says CFC delayed until it was too late for us to get anyone and then said no. The upside is that there is extra motivation for Walcott and Podolski (when he is healed) to work on their weaknesses as central strikers, because they can see a clear route.

Welcome to the home of football Ozil! Wenger indeed knows better than any and all of us put together. This team is ready. Once the injured are fully recovered, we will see that this is one of the most formidable squads that Arsene has assembled; grit and skill in abundance. Now watch this space!

Flamini and Rambo keeping the discipline, means Arteta and Ox could move forward. Theo, Ozil, Santi, Jack – bang em forward for Giroud or Poldi. And Rosicky too!!
Jeez, this is now a top top CL team. Both XI’s we could now put out are freaking frightening. Napoli and OM will be having a few sleepless nights before we play the group stages.

RM fans must be just wondering how they just got mugged. Hahaha, Perez – thanks so much for screwing us on Higuain, otherwise we may never had enough money left to collect Ozil after your utterly ludicrous purchase of Bale, and RM will have some serious explaining as to how they can spend money like fools in a ruined economy, propped up by German taxpayers.

The angry melt down of manure fans tonight is hilarious, if sadly too familiar when we look back at some of our own headless fellow doomers reactions during the summer.

Final topic: Does this mean Frimmy didn’t get a loan out tonight, or is there time to do that? The kids got to get game time or he will be back in the reserves, and that would be a cruel step backward in his career.

Although my guess/prediction is that Ozil will actually start on the bench for that and when we’ve secured the game Arsene can have the luxury of bringing him on to a) give him an individual welcome by the fans and b) say to anyone watching from certain other clubs, “look what I can do now you fuckers, we’re here and we’re not going away and we’re about to stir things up more than you ever imagined”

  47. I am still giddy with excitement about this signing. Should get up for work in about 5 hours but I doubt I’ll get much sleep tonight. Özil is the reason why we have been patient over those years, to allow us to sign a player of his quality from our own money without some benefactor in the background or making huge debts in the process. We got a proper world class player, the best in his position in the world, and we deserve it. I hope fans will give Özil time to settle, but I am very confident that once he has had a couple of weeks training with the team and some minutes under his belt, he will set the league on fire.

There are some doomers out there complaining how we didn’t sign a dm, keeper and striker (though we did… Flamini is the dm, Viviano the keeper and Sanogo the striker) but I couldn’t care less about them. If they want to deny that the future is upon us, it’s their own mistake. By May next season they will probably all have a nice fat belly from the tons of humble pie shoved down their throats
