  6. George Lewis has signed a professional contract with us and joins our under-23s squad ahead of the new season.

The 20-year-old winger, who was born in Kigali, Rwanda, moved to Norway as a child where he joined the youth development set-up at Tromso IL.

After a spell at Tromso, George then enjoyed successful periods at Norwegian second-tier sides Tromsdalen and Fram Larvik, where he played until the end of last season.

Everyone at Arsenal welcomes George to the club and we look forward to supporting his ongoing development.

    by jeorge bird

Arsenal have given a trial to former Queens Park Rangers youngster Kayden Harrack, who can play at centre-back or in midfield.

The 16-year-old, who is also being tracked by West Ham United, will be assessed by Arsenal coaches next week.

Arsenal have a host of centre-backs at first-team and U23 level, while they also have various options in that department in the U18s.

Alex Kirk and Mazeed Ogungbo have trained with the U23s recently, Jason Sraha is looking to earn a professional contract, while Zane Monlouis, Zach Awe and Taylor Foran recently signed scholarship terms.

Arsenal also have lots of young midfielders so Harrack will have to impress significantly to earn a contract

The 19-year-old, who impressed in Huddersfield’s youth set-up, has met up with his new team-mates and is already training with our under-23s and academy players ahead of the new season.

Before joining Huddersfield Town in June 2019, Tim was at Lincoln City, where his progress was rewarded by breaking into the first-team squad in the EFL Trophy. During his time with Lincoln City, Tim also had a spell on loan with non-league side Lincoln United in January 2019.

Predominantly a central midfielder, Tim, who started his youth career at League Two side Mansfield Town, is eligible to represent both Nigeria and England.

We welcome Tim to Arsenal and look forward to supporting him with his continued development.

  22. Fixtures will be fixtures.
The more important thing is greater clarity on the player personnel as revised by MA, Edu & Vinai.

    1. PEA extending.
    2. CB: Gabriel signing…could see the exits of Sokratis & Chambers.
    3. DM/CM: Thomas Partey signing….seems dependent on Guendouzi & Torreira leaving.
    4. CM/AM: Ceballos loan-in or say Emi Buendia? I see no need for Coutinho.
    5. AM/LW: Eberechi Eze. Not an absolute necessity but I’m just completely smitten by him. Would be a shame if he ends up with one of the other big teams. Seems destined for greatness and would cost a little too much once unveiled on the big stage.

Hope fans get to return to the stadiums soon, though I kind of feel we benefited from the crowdlessness at the resumption.

The new away kit is okay. White with thin streaks of red. Its got nothing on the crushed banana though. Wonder what we’ll be wearing on the first day @ Craven Cottage?

Should be another interesting few weeks.
Thankful again for another season with you guys, the Positivistas.

  23. Revisiting,
    4. CM/AM: Ceballos loan-in (@ 4m?) or say Emi Buendia (@20m max)?

I see no need for Coutinho (@ 9m) and all that Barcelona drama.
Ceballos can only be loaned in again buy Madrid would rather sell or keep according to the media.

Houssem Aouar would be more than ideal but I don’t see how we can afford him at almost 50m euros. Especially from a Jean-Michel Aulas’ team. He’s probably off to Etihad City.

Buendia is the one I’d go for. His assists+defensive stats, PL-experience, age, toughness and price make a great case for his signing.

On another note, even if we seem over-crowded in AM/FW positions, I would still sign Eberechi Eze and loan him back to QPR for the season!
Give Nketiah, Willock, Nelson, and Smith-Rowe enough of a run-out for a year and bring in Eze for 2021/22. He left us at 13 and still dreams of playing in the red & white.

  25. Interesting that Irish commentary. Thought George hit nail on head replying to Adrian Clarke, who expressed approval, on twitter, though, by suggesting pundits/commentators here could not say that sort of thing without hurting career (and basically couldn’t start a career talking like that)

Believe that 100%. Ireland presumably has enough distance so as to be able to get away with it. Must admit I’m fascinated by subject : i.e how free our journo’s etc are to say anything. I think the presence of opinionated loudmouths and, superficially, different characters with different ways about them, gives a totally misleading impression of lots of freedom and range.

  26. By way, is there any helping a schmuck like me when it comes to transfer stuff? I know the madness and lameness of it but here I am, again, tormented by the will he, won’t he (he won’t, says my negative brain) of this centre back Gabriel.

Have to say, if there’s an outline of truth within the rumours then he may well have failed that test ,of sorts, for Arteta, whereby if a player drags feet too much he isn’t for us.

  27. Joe Willock turned 21 today, just looking at his stats, he played in 29 of our EPL games last season, scoring one goal, he played in 5 of our FA Cup games, no goals, he scored 2 goals in 2 league cup games, and 2 goals in 8 Europa League games, so a total of 43 games, with 5 goals, bringing his AFC total to 61 games, and 8 goals.

so it will be interesting to see if he can make the next step up after his breakout season.

I’ve not got a clue what’s happening in terms of preparation for the season- has any 1st team training resumed? Liverpool been at it for a week I think- so it seems good chance we’ll field very young team.

I’d be tempted to pick one which is very obviously not 1st team, bit like Liverpool did in cup games. In theory could give youngsters a nice opportunity while ensuring no damage to morale if goes tits up.

  35. Enjoyed tonight’s final and have loved watching Banega in these games. Watched plenty of football in my time but still some mystery in it to me, or things that elude my ability to describe them neatly. For instance, how can Emery have liked and got a lot from a player like Banega, given how bad some of the football was with us, especially at the end?

Pretty sure I really liked football Sevilla played against Liverpool in that final as well.

Meanwhile if someone like Banega is very well suited to Spain but maybe wouldn’t be to prem…

  36. Took a while , but Emery ended up completely disgusting me, the treatment of Xhaka was the final straw. But , most have their side to their story, and he must have had something at some point, in Spain he had successes, Like Wenger, without a criminal referee, he would likely have knocked a peak Barca out of the CL
Perhaps with us ,he was at the wrong club, with the wrong structure, the wrong boss, in the wrong country, with the wrong language, with the wrong players for him In the wrong situation at the wrong time.
Too many wrongs in there, sometimes, you just don’t fit where you land and you just got to move Or be moved elsewhere.
Someone who cared might watch the rest of Emery’s career with interest To see if he can redeem himself , I will just focus on Arteta

The Dutch midfielder is renowned for his agility and creativity in the middle of the park. Predominantly a central midfielder, Salah has spent his youth career in the Netherlands, developing through the youth ranks in Rotterdam with Feyenoord.

  40. Salah-Eddine’s decision to join the club was an easy one.

From the moment he arrived at London Colney, he was greeted with open arms by academy staff and players, and made to feel welcome in north London.

We spoke to the young midfielder after signing – and this is what he said:

on how it feels to join Arsenal…
It feels great to join a massive club like Arsenal. It’s a good environment for me to work on my development and hopefully through the academy I can become a first-team player.

on the key factors behind his move…
They first contacted my dad and then I went there for a week just to see what the club is all about, and after that they didn’t really have to say anything. I immediately knew that it was the right club for me.

on his first impressions of the club and his teammates…
My first impressions were that not only are my teammates really good footballers, but they’re great people as well. The whole environment is positive and it’s lovely to work with them.

on how he would describe his style of play…
I’m a central midfielder and I like to play box to box. Offensively I’m a creative player and I can play with my left or right foot. I score goals and get assist, and defensively I like to think I do my bit too, especially in the transition.

on what he hopes to achieve in his debut season…
First I want to become an important player in the under-23s and then eventually get involved with the first team in some capacity. I want to see what that’s like, but above all else I want to have a really good season with the under-23s. Maybe if I do that then I’ll be able to join the first team here and there in training. Those are my targets.

  47. from the standard

Mikel Arteta is keen on making Brentford coach and set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson part of his backroom team at Arsenal.

The Spaniard wants to add to his coaching staff and is now set to step up that process following the departure of Freddie Ljungberg.

Ljungberg, who was interim head coach last season following the sacking of Unai Emery, left Arsenal on Saturday to pursue his own career as a manager.

The former midfielder was highly thought of by Arsenal, but both he and the club agreed it was time for him to move on so he could pursue his own ambitions.

Arteta now wants to add to his staff and Standard Sport understands he wants to bring in Georgson.

A formal move for the Swede is still in its early stages, but Arsenal are keen to make him part of their setup for the new campaign.

Georgson has a growing reputation and currently works at Brentford as their Head of Set Pieces and Individual Development. Prior to that he had been working at Malmo as an assistant coach.

Set-pieces were an issue for Arsenal last season and they have been in previous campaigns too, with the Gunners conceding a high number of goals from them.
    Arsenal’s summer transfer plans

Georgson’s expertise in that department makes him an attractive option and many clubs are now hiring specialist coaches. Liverpool, for example, have been working with throw-in expert Thomas Gronnemark.

Arsenal and Arteta have recent history of hiring coaches from Brentford after appointing Inaki Cana as their goalkeeping coach in December, and set-piece guru Georgson could be the latest to move to north London.

  48. media in UK, France and Italy all running with the story that Lille CB, Gabriel Magalhães, will join Arsenal this week, maybe by Tuesday.

with him arriving and Saliba now available for selection at CB too, its reported that Arsenal are willing to sell Holding, Sokratis and Chambers.
Holding is being linked with a move to Leeds,
Sokratis is being linked with a move to Napoli#
Chambers has been linked with a move to Fulham where he won their Player of the Year when they were last in the EPL

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also reported to be on the transfer list, with Brighton, Wolves, Spurs, Newcastle and Everton all showing an interest in him, as have a couple of German clubs.

Guendouzi and Torreira are said to be up for sale too. Also reported to be available for sale are Kolasinac, Mustafi, Lacazette and Nelson. We know too that the club has been trying to force Ozil to leave too, maybe that will have changed now that Raul is gone.

Emmi Martinez has stated recently that he will not go back to being back up keeper, so either he or Leno will likely have to leave this window too.

I can’t see all of those transfers take place, as it would decimate our squad, and we aint going to bring in 7-10 signing in one summer, and that is what would be needed if all them leave.
Ceballos is no longer with us, and until a deal is done for him to come back on loan or full time is done, then we are another body down in midfield.

If we sign Gabriel Magalhães, it would leave us with a large number of CB’s

Gabriel, Saliba, David Luiz, Mari, Mustafi, Sokratis, Holding and Chambers, so its no surprise that Mustafi, Sokratis, Holding and Chambers are being linked with transfers out of the club, but I can’t see us selling all 4, as that would leave us with just four CB’s, which is too few, I think Mustafi and maybe Chambers would stay this season, especailly with Mari out injured at the moment, and Chambers only coming back from injury, and that he can also play CM, might see him staying.

media claim Arteta wants to bring back Ceballos and also bring in a CM, an attacking midfielder and a forward, or maybe even a winger and a striker, so that would be up to six more signings, along with the already signed Willian, and the expected signing this week of Gabriel.
Are we really going to sign seven or eight first team players this summer, and that is not taking into account what happens with our goalies.

I would say that we are more likely to keep more of who the media say we are trying to sell and only make another couple of signings, maybe 3, max 4, after Gabriel is signed.
If rumors are true, Partey for the CM role, Ceballos back in, and then either a forward or striker, I would not be surprised to see us sign an old style big man striker.
