BBC reporting that Arsenal have met Arteta over the Head Coach role at AFC, its not known if he has been offered the job or not
LikeLike
I believe in this squad they just need to believe in themselves, something Unai never really give them. I think Freddie or any no 2 would then struggle to uplift the squad quickly with the association to the last head coach.
It’s always easier for someone from outside although even then it’s normally a while before a team will find consistency. Maureen had an easy run with the spuds but has still managed to lose a couple although the last minute win against Wolves was an impressive result. Going back to how players are not deemed good enough under one manager then look good under another, just look at Lucas moura ‘s improvement in the new system. That should give hope to everyone of our players who have been written off by our Fairweather fans.

Arteta came to us when we really needed him as a player, and now he might come to us when we really need him as our head coach. He was an intelligent player, he was also a hard player, he knew when to get nasty in a game, he was a wonderful reader of the game. Lets hope he is all those things as a head coach too if he comes.
what will be interesting if he comes is who he brings in as his coaching staff, will he keep Freddie on, will some other former Gooners come in with him, will as many expect, Alonso join, it would mean him leaving his role as head coach at Real Sociedad B, what former team mates might make up his coaching staff, Sagna, Rosicky, who knows.
Arteta played 149 times for Arsenal, was captain or vice captain for most of those too.
Every great manager or head coach has to start somewhere, has to be given a chance by someone to show what he can do, for me appointing Arteta is no more of a risk than bringing in an experienced guy like Ancelotti who has done it all in the past but has not been so good of late, sacked by both Bayern and Napoli.
A bit question will be just how much financial backing Arteta will be given, and how soon will he be given it. If he signs on this week, can we expect a couple of moral boosting big signings in January.

Eddie… man, I’ve actually refreshed BBC and goal a few times for Arteta’s announcement, that’s how much I want him to come. He’s just such a class act. You can’t help but be drawn to him and respect him greatly.
Those morons who hv written him off already yet sang love songs for Emery can all do one. I’m dusting off my AKB blazer.

yeah Labo, I’ve actually seen one guy claim that if AFC appoint Arteta it will be the darkest day in the clubs history. That we need an experienced manager to sort out this squad, oddly the same guy wanted Wenger gone cos he was too old, the modern game had passed him by. You can’t win with these muppets, no one will ever be the right one for them.

Even if we had been playing very well of late I would not have been totally shocked to lose 3-0 to City, and so yesterday was no worse than I expected (but then i kind of expect us to lose most games anyway, even when are not losing any at all). While I wasn’t in total Dr Who mode (watching from behind sofa, peeking through fingers) I watched the game with a kind of rubber-necking fascination. In places I thought there was some good and encouraging stuff going on and better by far than anything seen under Unai Emery this season. But the three goals we conceded were so naive as to be almost criminally negligent, and from what I could see on the TV the amount of walking and ambling from several members of our team did not seem at all appropriate and certainly created an impression that they didn’t care very much.
While I don’t think Arteta would be able to create an immediate impact, it would certainly be refreshing to see him given a real chance to build on what is there , which is a little bit more I suspect than it currently feels like. But I wonder how attractive a proposition it is for him, as City could almost certainly, if they wished, match any wage we were able to pay. So if he isn’t going to be induced (or should that be seduced) by money, then it would be for professional pride and an ambition to be the man in charge. I am concerned that he might look at our current state and calculate that just now the risk is greater than the reward.

The Daily Heil / Sammy Mokbel tweeting that Arteta will meek JK tonight in a final interview.
If this is true, assuming he turns up presentable, doesnt swear during the interview, doesnt forget his command of the English language and Raul doesnt parachute Luis Enrique in at the last minute, sounds like we can prepare to welcome him back to the club. Just hope he keeps Freddie

foreverheady I would think that it all comes down to how much Arteta wants to be the main man, I don’t think he ever gets the Man City job from the No.2 spot, but if he comes to Arsenal and does well or very well, he will have his pick of big clubs after him in the future.
Mandy the notion has been out there that any interview with either Josh or Stan would be to rubber stamp the appointment. Emery was flown to the USA to meet both Stan and Josh just before he was appointed. In many ways its the candidates big face to face chance to get gurantees from the organ grinders about anything promised by the monkeys in the earlier process.

The Irish Times view on repression in Xinjiang: the value of speaking up
Mesut Özil’s example should be followed by governments across the world
15 minutes ago
November 23rd, 2019: Leaked classified documents issued by a top Chinese Communist Party official show how the inmates of controversial camps in Xinjiang province are at all times kept under video surveillance and behind double-locked doors.
China’s response to a footballer’s tweet about the repression of the Uighur minority shows how acutely sensitive it is to foreign commentary on human rights abuses in Xinjiang province – and underlines how important it is that the rest of the world speaks up loudly on those abuses. In a business – elite football – where players, fearful of upsetting sponsors or supporters, too often shy away even from mild controversy, Arsenal’s Mesut Özil bravely used his social media channels to express horror at the mass incarceration of Muslim Uighurs.
Özil’s characterisation of China’s treatment of minorities in Xinjiang is entirely consistent with the analysis of human rights groups
His employer showed no such courage. In a message of its own on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter, Arsenal dismissed the player’s comments as merely his “personal opinion”. Far from it. Özil’s characterisation of China’s treatment of minorities in Xinjiang is entirely consistent with the analysis of human rights groups and testimony gleaned from Uighurs who have fled the region.
The China Cables, a leak involving the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and its media partners, including The Irish Times, last month detailed the bureaucratic planning and organisation behind a network of camps where up to one million Uighur Muslims and others have been detained and denied access to their families. A separate leaked cache of documents published by the New York Times last month showed how the ground was laid for the crackdown from 2014 onwards, including through private speeches by Chinese president Xi Jinping.
Beijing’s response to Özil’s comment was to drop plans by state broadcaster CCTV to air a match involving Arsenal on Sunday. Yet there are signs that such condemnation may be having some effect. This newspaper reported yesterday that at least two major “re-education” camps in Kashgar, in the Xinjiang region, have been shut down in recent weeks. Local authorities said it was because “all the students had graduated”. The closure of the camps may not in itself bring the repression in Xinjiang to an end, but it appears to be a sign that Beijing is not as deaf to international opprobrium as it likes to pretend.

I don’t think the titanic thing applies in this case, if at all. There is no surprise that we were outclassed by city, it ought to be so. Arsenal is trying to become a team while City are a collective of some of the best in the world who play as a unit. It is not City and Liverpool we need to worry about it is everyone else who Unai respected as if they were such.
When Arsene left we needed to retool a bit, Unai and the powers that be have turned this into a rebuild. We have some very good talent but it will take time.
Whoever the manager is needs to slowly steer this ship around the iceberg. I fully support Freddie and feel good about what he is trying to do. It seems Arteta will get the job, I will back likewise.
That’s my take anyways…

The sooner this is sorted out the better. I trust Freddie is allowed to continue his work and not made the fall guy for Emery’s misbehaviors / misadventures. He likes to say he is attack minded… I do not really think he is…Sadly he didn’t even do much to prove himself defense mended either! He should just accept that and go to clubs that do not mind that.
Imagine where the club would have been if they had dare we say it listened to AW and brought in Arteta Ab initio?

Don’t think we can assume Freddie will want to continue his work even if possible after the shake-up. Think more likely he would want to leave whatever afterwards.
It will have come down to a choice between two unproven beginner managers, and they’ll have gone with another guy, from outside.
I’ll get totally behind Arteta, hope for best, cross fingers, dream a little, but think we should be realistic about it meaning Freddie is likely a casualty of it.
Would be different if was someone not looking to move into management, happy in assistant role, even if pushed a bit further down pecking order, but that’s not case with Freddie.
Obviously, be nice if that’s not how it goes and we can enjoy Arteta’s arrival, if it happens, without losing Freddie and feeling bad about it.

Yes that is my fear about Freddie’s mood. We can only hope one’s arrival does not cost us the other. We need so luck going our way for a bit right now.
Just that I do not think Freddie was ready to step into top role yet and may still be willing to bid his time and continue his work. I do not think any promises were made in the initial offer of interim although no one would have blamed him for hoping it worked out better and he did get it

Don’t think we’ll be at strongest for it this year. Musah would’ve been key for that group but went elsewhere. Bit of luck u16 crop this year ,who sound pretty good, will mean strong u18’s next year or two.
Eager to hear Flores signing up for scholarship as looks special talent. Also have a look out for goal Omari Hutchinson scored recently. Maybe Ed can do his magic and find it. Poor quality footage but proper Messi vibes to the run from own half.

On another note, seems the Ozil China situation has gone right up to senior levels of the US govt ,

Wonder why everybody at PA and Uncensored is so eager to have Arteta as manager .Does Arteta carries more Arsenal DNA than Freddie?
Freddie has been more loyal to the club imo and has performed well with U23.
It will be better for the club to give time to Freddie imho.

Sadly for Freddie, think that bird has flown Rosicky, looks like Arteta is a done deal, along with reportedly an impressive supporting cast – not that I know of these coaches, scouts etc linked, but I read they are impressive.
Poor Freddie had to make do with himself and a couple backroom staff.
Really hope they have an important role for the likes of Freddie to carry on, he doesnt deserve to lose his job after stepping up to help in very difficult circumstances.
That said, Arteta could be an exciting appointment, and hopefully, the football will improve, with maybe more emphasis on youth.
If Arteta is appointed, might suggest Raul is either recognising his previous mistakes, and is towing the line, or has had his wings clipped this time. Unlike some clubs I can think of , it doesnt look to me like we are signing a man too deeply in with the super agents, could even make a case we are avoiding such managers at all costs, we were linked with a few, but thankfully, none came to fruition, but time will tell all

Rosicky Like I said earlier post, either would have been fine for me.
Arteta simply because he appeared to initially be AWs choice and I imagine he would know a thing or 2 about it so I tend to trust his judgment on such stuff.
Really want Freddie to stay cos he has done great work with the younger ones and did step up to fill a gap. Locality and care also count along with skillset

I wish I could be more excited about the appointment of Arteta, which I would have done had it happened when it should have done 2 years ago. It almost feels like too little too late. He’s walking in to a highly toxic situation and knowing our entitled bottom feeding fans, they will not be patient enough to allow him time to sort the mess out. However, I still hope he can deliver on all that promise that Arsene and Pep see in him.

Passenal: if MA had followed on from AW he might have struggled to do sufficiently better than the great man, whereas however toxic the situation is now, he is surely bound to do a lot better than UE.
