I Hate Arsenal Blogs

Today its a post by our old mate Bradyesque7.

*There was a line in this post that could easily be misconstrued as hate-speak. If I read this post, and knew what I now know, I would think that it was a disgusting comment. Rather than further highlight it, I have removed the line. I apologise to anyone who knows what I mean and took offence. *

Hard times have befallen Europe. We borrowed too much and now the majority of nations in our continent are in a period of austerity. While we all built mansions with swimming pools filled with copagne (two parts Champagne, one part cocaine), Arsenal were exercising some (possibly) self-imposed prudence.

The time has now come to reap the benefits of our cautious approach as we now have the cash at the ready to sign players who can genuinely improve our team. We are now in a position whereby we can sign players that our peers would love to sign. So you would have to consider the plan to be a successful one, yes?

Well, not if you’re in the discontent business. This week, I read a blog from the guy who calls himself ‘Angry of N5’. This is, apparently, not just clever name. In his blog, ‘Angry’ went into great detail on how things could and should have been done differently. Now, of course there is room for debate, and I’m sure that within the club there was such discourse.

The difference between somebody within Arsenal having an alternative view, and the hacky bloggers who seem desperate to criticise, is that the people within the club are furnished with accurate and up-to-date information. ‘Angry of N5’ admitted in his own blog that he can’t be sure of the numbers with which he is working. He is guessing. Why is it not a surprise that his guesses come in the form of criticism? Why is it not a surprise that he thinks it all should have been done differently? Because he is in the discontent business. ‘Happy of N5’ just isn’t as cool.

Speaking of hacky blogs, I read a post from the prestigious and ever-popular ‘Ladyarse’ recently. There are some sports writers who write the articles for their employers (red-top rags) and have their work headed with some outlandish rubbish which may or may not even relate to what’s in the piece. The beauty of blogs is that we write what we want to write. It’s up to us which approach we take. So, when Nicklas Bendtner gave the answer that millions would give, Ladyarse decided to remove all context in order to gain the maximum hits their site. Reading the article, they did use accurate quotes and, as you know, Bendtner did not say anything that suggested that he deserves to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Why did they go with the headline ‘Bendtner – I’d like to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona’? Well I can only speculate on that but I suppose that it’s the same reason that the tabloids do it. Bendtner bashing is good numbers. Truth and integrity are found in the dusty corners of the library.

I would have included links but I just didn’t feel like it.

Thanks for reading. Up the Arsenal!

  2. I have seen that Desperate of N5s blog efforts and commented on several of them. It’s pathetic fuckers like him who perpetuate the so called divisions between gooners. He is more than happy to suggest those that aren’t in the “realist” camp can not countenance any critisising of the club or manager, blah blah…

There’s absolutely no reason to keep churning out this incessant negativity dressed up as investigative journalism, except to cause damage and (most importantly for them) attention seek.

Am liking the Discontent Business idea; reminds me slightly of that old film The Crying Game although, for some of us at least, the film was less predictable than the daily semi-commercial gloom and distortion to be found round some parts.

One also wonders how long N5’s Mr Angry will stay, well, angry as Arsenal’s continual development seems set to pose him all manner of naming problems in the near future.

Feeling Better of N5 can surely be but a few months away and who knows, by next Xmas maybe we can look forward to the insights from It’s A Wonderful Life of N5?

  6. yeah i agree to an extent – Loads of Arsenal blogs just see ‘no trophy in 8 yrs’ and hammer the club for it but forget we built one of the best stadiums in Europe, paid for most of it, played good footy in that time and got close to wining a couple of trophies.
Though to be fair to Lady Arse is one of the better ones.

  7. At the risk of sounding naive, I have to make an admisssion that causes me a deal of embarrassment.

You see, somewhere in my three years of blogging I have come to realize that I do not know what ‘blogs’ are for.
Don’t misunderstand me – I know what I thought they were for, but on reflection it seems I may have been totally wrong.

Over the last 18 months, in particular, I have come to realize that there are fewer and fewer blogs where I want to go because I am not enjoying the experience as I used to do.

So what do/did I think was the purpose of a blog?

Now this is where the naivety creeps in, and makes me look an idiot.
I thought an Arsenal blog was a type of chat-room where I could go to discuss all matters relating to Arsenal with like minded fans, albeit most are strangers to me. It did not matter that not everyone agreed with me – that was all part of the deal. I was and am open to persuasion and capable of changing my mind, on occasion, when presented with a different but well argued case.

But it seems I was wrong.

Blogs, on the whole, are not chat shops, they are rant shops, where anyone with an ‘unacceptable’ point of view, usually defined as not being critical or damning enough of the team or its manager, becomes an unwitting agent of the club, and its management, and is seen by those disaffected with the club to be fair game and subjected to foulmouthed abuse, as an idiot at best, or, even worse, a mealey-mouthed lackey of the club’s hierarchy.

Fortunately, there are still a, sadly diminishing, number of blogs where this is not the case, and I can continue to blog without my sanity or ‘loyalty’ being forever questioned.

Where did it all go wrong? Or, where did I go wrong?

  8. Just had a quick 30 second search on google and found 202 different blogs on Arsenal and I am sure with more time I will find more. Arsenal football club have at the last count 3,021,777 followers on twitter the most in the PL and 16,416,107 likes on Facebook.

I would think this makes Arsenal one of the most talked about clubs on the internet (at least from the PL) so competition to grab Arsenal fan attention is fierce.
I read Angry of N5’s opinion yesterday and replied to it, I feel the basic premise of the article started out good the figures although in some cases guesswork were informative and as he said it does need reading more than once. The problem I have with this and many others (some could say the same about the articles I post on here) is that sometimes you are so determined through your writing to prove a point that the point gets lost in the words. His determination to prove that Arsenal have had the same money as if they were still at the old Arsenal Stadium clouds the figures and ignores other outside factors.

Writing interesting, informative and well written blogs on a regular basis is a hard thing to do (especially when we have international breaks that stop the main interest of your blog from playing). I read 3 or 4 different Arsenal blogs each day sometimes more if they only post new things once or twice a week. I now know what to expect from the blogs some are positive towards Arsenal, some are negative, some blog just to promote arguments and change their opinions like the wind to do so and others just want high traffic rates and write what they think will get them that. Over the months I have filtered the ones that are just a pain in the arse to read out of my list of blogs, I like reading Angry of N5 etc. they give me a more positive fan of Arsenal and a more positive writer of the occasional blog perspective of what Arsenal fans think and feel. If I was to just read positive blogs then my viewpoint would become clouded and unbalanced.

So it is not about hating Arsenal blogs its about finding your own balance between what you believe and think is going on in and around the club with those who take a differing position If you take umbrage at what you read on their blogs comment, argue we have put their words up for all to see and are ready and (me anyway) to be shot down at any moment.

  13. Positive blogs attract positive fans, negative will do the opposite. That’s not a problem, you know what to expect when you get there. If you don’t like it,don’t go.
But what happens when the blog decides to change direction? Easy answer is stop going.Again, not a problem.
The ones that rile me are those that simply make up shit, spread shit and chat shit among themselves. Those that turn rumours and hearsay into facts.
And I also dislike blogs that are simply a vehicle for someone’s ego, where they spout crap about tactics and formations as if they actually know what they are talking about. Some of these bloggers are well educated ,eloquent and sometimes even funny, and this leads the stupid and humourless to think it must mean they understand football.Trouble is most of them don’t.

desperation for trophies lead the fans to pressure the team to repay the fans faith (lol) against silly mickey mouse cups , and it backfired spectacularly , hehe…. wenger was planning for bayern at home , a very important game for the club and fans were bitching about some cup game that also took place during that week….clever , real clever.

  24. Kudos to George and Bradyesque (Rowan) for boldly going where very few in the blogsphere have the guts to even contemplate; to publicly challenge the negativity and stupidity we read daily on many so-called Arsenal-blogs. I am not for one moment questioning their right to express their opinions but when they go public, for the world to see, they must be prepared to have their views challenged and rebutted. Unfortunately, most have a mountain-sized ego that any criticism of their views or questioning of the validity of their facts and findings is regarded as an excuse to trash the criticizer, to block and to unfollow.

Unfortunately whenever there is a campfire flies are bound to follow. That is the nature of the Arsenal, a campfire that burns brightly. Somebody must be willing to give the flies a healthy swatting before they feast on the healthy and strong among us.

i think they are totally illogical creatures. it is difficult for me to understand why trusting a professional like wenger is a reason to be called deluded. As if we dont know who wenger is or what he can do.

what gets me is how the conclusion to trust wenger is presented as “following blindly” when its got nothing to do with blind following but a conscious decission based on previous experience.

later on, to support their claim that anyone who trusts wenger is deluded they seeked to piss on his achievements and influence at Arsenal with their gg revisionist bullshit.

media? ok they are cunts…ex players? maybe they carry grudge for not being offered a role after playing days were over or also for the money and exposure in media…but the fan? how could the fan not see through that ?

For (seemingly) not being 1000% red-blooded male. For giving them bragging rights, and then taking them away. For seeimg to be of the Establishment. And worst of all, for single-handedly selling Highbury. All of these things (and more, no doubt) irritate them.

But he’ll do for me, and if I outlast him (which is no shoe in) the next one will do too.

When the going was good they were the best in their triumphalism, singing the praises of the club and of Arsene but at the darkest period of our rebuild, after losing Cesc then Judas Van Persie and up to the Ozil signing, they were as bad as the worst of the doomers in tearing down Wenger. Anicoll has it right, history won’t be kind to them.

There is a line about “pressure in the summer” (no mention of supporters whatsoever though, not even by implication) but it’s in brackets, so I don’t know if that is a direct quote or something the writer has put there.

These blogs are much the same to assume greater knowledge or to be able to highlight flaws in those whose talents are greater obviously than the writer is the name of the game.
To suggest one of the most highly regarded coaches in the world is tactically inept is illogical especially when it is compared to the strategies of the bloke down the pub but it serves a purpose just as immigrants and people on benefits do.
Most of these blogs are not angry or informative or fighting for a just cause with a black scarf on but can only survive on negatives because seeing the good in something or supporting someone when they are not popular or are underperforming is difficult.
Therin lies the difference between this blog and so many others for although we may see situations and subjects differently we support and enjoy supporting unfortunately it is an increasingly lost art

Even the supposedly worst signing Wenger has made in five years, Gervinho, is tearing the Serie A a new butt hole. Bendtner’s going to Brazil and Zlatan is not. Oops!
